Boasting a sharing-style menu and one of Canada's largest mescal and tequila menus, we offer a unique experience and an incredible atmosphere that is just plain fun. The El Catrin menu, created by one of Mexico City's top chefs, is designed so that you can taste a little bit of everything.
On the inside, the decor features a breathtaking mural that took over 100 days to complete. On the outside, El Catrin boasts one of the best patios in the city that is not only enormous but open nearly year-round.
The meal overall was amazing, but 2 of us ordered the BROCHETAS DE PULPO
Grilled octopus and smoked chorizo brochettes, white lima bean dip, jalapeño aioli. It was so disappointing. For 2 of us it was our main course after having many many shared and amazing appetizers. The grilled octopus brochettes were suppose to be 4 each, but we only received 2 each. They were so tiny and flat and dried out. Not worth eating and tasteless, so disappointing after having such great food. This was a special celebration dinner so we didn't want to ruin our evening by complaining. We are normally never disappointed here, but this night was a fail because the margaritas were also all ice and no cocktail which put a real damper on the whole evening for everyone. Not sure what happened with our food and drinks, but it wasn't what we are use to or expected.
Great atmosphere and delicious dishes. Small portions for the price, but enjoyed the visit regardless.
Great service! Street food but with a gourmet twist. It’s a tapas place so no full meals.
Great experience as always! Love the vibes & food! Perfect for girls night out or a date.
Great Ambience, both indoors and outdoors. Food was decent, maybe a bit on the pricier end in terms of value.
Excellent food paired with amazing service from Pamela!
It was really good! Service was slow but overall great night
Great place to eat drink and have a good time. I cant wait to go back, and would recommend it to anyone
We had an amazing meal and our server was one of the best I’ve ever experienced! They went out of their way to make our family of five comfortable and happy. My two children have food allergies and it was my daughter’s birthday. They were careful and attentive and made her feel very special on her 7th birthday! We will definitely be back!
Some of the best Mexican food outside Mexico; great for get together
Excellent experience. Food was great. Getting our bill at the end of the night took a little longer than usual but the overall vibe made up for it!
Yes, But be very carefull of the price of cocktail; 62$ for a pitcher of no particular sangria. !#@?%$(!!! Unbelievable.
Great ambiance! Had a nice time. Perfect for a date or to catch up with friends anytime! Nice assortment of Mexican food and vibes. Highly recommended!
This was incredible. Authentic (and incredible) Mexican food, best margarita I’ve ever had, and the experience was amazing.
Good food and cocktails with a mixed demographic crowd for a rainy Tuesday evening.
Delicious food and very friendly staff. A great dining experience in the Distillery!
Tasting menu was excellent - though they could have paired the drinks a bit more thoughtfully. Otherwise, a great evening!
I’ve been to this restaurant and it’s a hit and miss each time. The staff can’t always withstand the large volumes of customers. Food tasted good but was cold by the time it reached the table. Drinks from the bar took over 15 min to arrive and were extremely sweet as if the bartender doesn’t taste them before sending them out. The ambience of the place unlike any other is the only thing that saves the day.
The atmosphere was a little loud for my taste which made conversation difficult but the food was delicious and the server excellent. I look forward to returning!
Going for the winter brunch challenge is one of the best ways to try out El Catrin - if you manage to finish the four course meal on the patio (in winter), the brunch is half price - this is very good value as all the dishes are delicious and most only offered at this event. You had 2 choices for each of the main courses - vegetarian and meat, which was thoughtful. The churros desert was a standout - they were some of the best I have had! There is a fire pit, heaters and serapas to keep you warm and most of the dishes were cast iron so the food was toasty as well. The atmosphere was super fun and we lucked out with a sunny day with above zero temperatures, so being outside wasn't too challenging. Our only quibble is that it took a long time for the soup to come out, which should have been the fastest and the drinks (although good) are pricey and were about 3/4 ice, which wasn't particularly welcome considering the temperature. On the whole though, good value and a delicious menu - we'll definitely be back next year if it's offered again. Bonus for us, it was also the last day for the Light Fest in the Distillery District, so we were able to partake in that as well, so a lovely outing for the day! If you are a tequila aficionado, this is the place for you as they have over 100 varieties and they do a wonderful tableside guacamole.
Amazing food and ambience! Took my 15 & 13 year old daughters here for their first time and they had a blast, they raved about their meals and loved the energy in the restaurant. Highly recommend eating here to anyone!
Fast and friendly service. Kevin was great. Get a taco fest and a pitcher for best value.
Seated quickly and service was pretty quick. Food and drink were excellent.
Had heard a lot about this place but it was a disappointing experience
First time there and what a great experience. Awesome food and menu, service was top notch.
Good was awesome and ambiance was great! I highly recommend the guacamole and corn appetizers
All the food came out at once - guacamole, tortilla and drunken chicken .. but had to wait for wine. Quite disappointing overall. Our server tried to make up for it .. but overall not a pleasant outing. Also, our guest had a food allergy which we highlighted but it appears one of the dishes did include traces of mustard. Not good!
Excellent Mexican food and ambiance. Staff was very friendly.
Would have been a four star, if they hadn't been so understaffed, so service was not great. Food was good.
Bus boy asked if he could take our plates; replied yes, but he also took the bucket of chips and put them on top of guacamole to take that away. We were not finished with guac and had 1/3 of chips left; I said ‘no’when he did that ... not eating the guac now that bottom of bucket has been in bowl. At 15.00 for guac, we should have been offered coffee or dessert - something.
Nice outdoor dining experience in a sunny winter day. Food is ok. But the service is not that great. I guess our server is just too busy to be more attentive.
Love the Mexican decor, fun food options - great experience - a bit on the loud side however
Great food and atmosphere. The service was a little slow but in all fairness the server had a huge section and it was National margarita day so we understood.
Margs were awesome as were the salad, fish tacos and table side guacamole.
What an awesome restaurant highly recommend! The tortilla soup was amazing and I’m coming back for the soup and churros !!!
I booked 3 for our lady’s night to see the light festival in the area. They served us a small table only good for 2 people. Uncomfortable seating. We ended up moving to the other section; not so nice.. I was disappointed by the circumstances. Not going to book this place again.
Our only complaint is the noise level.
We could not carry on a conversation.
The food and service were exceptional.
One in our group has a severe peanut allergy, the executive chef came to the table twice to verify the concerns.
Amazing!!! The service was great. The restaurant is beautiful and the food is impeccable. Not to mention the price was great as well! Keep it up
Was here to celebrate my wife's birthday with another friend. We got our table swiftly with a just a couple of minutes waiting while the table was being set-up. In food, their guacamole is excellent (we had a double portion of that). The queso fundido was nice. The taco we had ordered was the only vegetarian option available and was not all that great. Over all we had a good time. The service lagged a bit though.
Amazing food. Cool decor and the service was top notch. The fish tacos are to die for.
Food was amazing, service was wonderful and they have the best margaritas I’ve ever had!
