On the inside, the decor features a breathtaking mural that that took over 100 days to complete. On the outside, El Catrin boasts one of the best patios in the city that is not only enormous but open 3/4 of the year. The El Catrin menu, created by one of Mexico City's top chefs, is designed so that you
will taste a little bit of everything.
Server was great, food was great. Brought us birthday special dessert.
Our server Ricardo was incredible, attentive, and knowledgeable! Food was great and what a cool place! Would easily recommend it to a friend.
I wish I remembered the servers name he was unreal. We have gone many times but he has def been our favourite server. The food is always unreal, love the atmosphere and you can’t get better Sangria anywhere!
We went for my 59th birthday. We all had the tasting menu...it was fantastic....the churroa were the best. Overall 5 star experience
Our waiter was amazing. We felt like we were his only customers even though it was packed. My friend has challenging dietary needs and he made her feel special instead of feeling like an nuisance. Food was great. Such richness of flavours!
Tapas were excellent, but the desserts were underwhelming. Service was outstanding!
Wasn't super impressed with service. Very mediocre for such a fancy restaurant. Felt like the waiter was being nice for the tips. Food was excellent, but incredibly small portions for the price. Hard to get out without spending less than $80 with one drink each. It's a beautiful spot and fun to show friends, but not great for conversation since it's loud.
guacamole amazing been 3 times over 5 years never disappointed
The atmosphere and food is greay
Amazing ambience! Loved the food and the service. Great reception and area. Have a private area on the Second level.
The food was phenomenal! Definitely try the Sopes, Guacamole with the grass hoppers, and the rice pudding. Great atmosphere for a fun night out but we were seated close to the door and even though there was a curtain, it was still freezing cold.
Birthday dinner - the tequila shots went down very well :)
Amazing food and service! Everything was hot and the food came to the table promptly. Highly recommend getting dessert. Our water glasses were never empty, we had a super attentive server.
Like the food and decor! Our waiter was just so slow!! Food came rhe same time as the drinks we ordered, other than the poor waiter we had its a great place.
Worst waiter by the name of Vince. We had to ask another waiter for drinks and then for the bill. Vince only showed up to collect the tips.
Other than that, such a great place! I will come back but will insist to sit in another section where waiters actually wait on tables.
We have been at this restaurant at least a dozen times in the past 4 years. But we had a very dissapointing experience the past couple of times at Catrin. The sharable barbeque was tasteless and the quality and quantity of the protein was very poor. The Mayan Margarita pitcher was tamarind - lime juice instead of the regular Margarita. Not sure the 5 of us want to go back.
It was great and our waiter was fantastic. Would recommend
Ambiance and food was great but a bit pricey for the type of food served.
Food was not up to standRd in comparison to other Mexican restaurants within the city. Over priced and poor service.
It was our first time at El Catrin, recommended by a friend. The ambience was great. The food was great and the waiter, although not as attentive as we would have liked, was pleasant and helpful. They were many groups there celebrating one occasion or another, which added to the fun environment.
the food was good but not as good as last time we were here. tables are way too close, we had to listen to one guy talking about his relationship problems all night.
Excellent Mexican restaurant - food was excellent. It's just a bit pricey.
Fantastic place to eat! Right in the heart of the distillery district.. we were quickly shown to our seat and warmly greeted by our server. He was helpful and courteous while helping decide what to eat as it was our first time. Everything was bang on! The table side guac is amazing! Along with the selection of hot sauces. If you like it hot get into their habanero sauce it’s a great mix of spicy and flavour. I will definitely be back to keep working my way through their menu!
I took my sons for brunch around one last Saturday. It was the worst tetaitant meal I have ever had. Out waitress was completely distracted and it took about 30 minutes before our drinks arrived. I asked her twice and she kept saying they were coming but they didn’t come until I asked another waiter. My 17 yr old asked for guacamole in his burrito. She said “ I can’t do that because the burritos are all made ahead in the morning..”. That’s unbelievable. Really unbelievable. My other son’s torte also made ahead. My omelette was tasty but very greasy. All in 155$ (one Margherita and one beer!). I tried calling the manager and he / she never picked up
Delicious food. Excellent service. Will definitely recommend and will return. Exceeded expectations. We ended up at El Catrin unintentionally, and had a great time.
Not great value but the food is good. Would recommend for a nice treat
Amazing ambiance with delicious food. A must try. Dinner out with friends with a walk afterwards I’m majestic Distillery District makes for a perfect pairing. Highly recommend.
Great authentic food! Definite recommend for Spanish cuisine!! Smaller yet perfect portions!
The food was creative, fresh and tasty but the portions are extremely small and relatively expensive. Dinner for 4 with no alcohol or any drinks was over $200 and we weren’t stuffed. The restaurant itself is quite eclectic and has a fun atmosphere. The waiter was attentive and the service was pretty good.
The food was good but portion sizes are somewhat small
We enjoyed the food at El Catrin. It was just terrible to be seated right by the entrance where it was freezing and you can smell the smoke from smokers outside. It seemed that they put all the tables for twos near the exit/entrance of the restaurant and felt like we were treated as second class citizens esp when the table next to us was of a staff on her day off. She was treated far better and was given much attention different types of drinks and food..the servers kept dropping to chat or joining in to eat with her at her table even though they were clearly working. Other than that the food and ambiance was terrific . I would have preferred to not be swayed by the door where it was cold..
We were there for NYE. We called 3 times, weeks and days before the reservation to see what they had planned for NYE. We were told every call, something is being planned, not finalised yet. NOTHING was done for NYE. Just like any other night. At midnight, they did serve a small portion of something sparkling in a tumble glass. It wasnt good, and sadly it was warm. We oredered our own bottle of Sparkling for our toast so we had something else to have. The service was BAD, slow and we were left waiting 20/30 min with empty glasses when we were looking to have more drinks. Both our first choice of drinks they were out of! They ran out of Hendriks Gin, not very impressed. something so basic. If you are looking to spend a special evening there, DON'T! Same thing all the time. No effort what so ever for NYE. We left and went somewhere else and had a nice time. No more business from us @ El Catrin
This restaurant is by far the best Mexican restaurant in Toronto, maybe even one of the best restaurants in Toronto period. The atmosphere is perfect, classy yet fun and vibrant (very hard to pull off). The food is incredible both in taste and in visual. The service is on point as well. The only thing I wasn't a fan of were the washrooms (individual stalls, hard to keep clean and I found the soap has not been replenished in many of them). But you don't go to a restaurant for the washrooms...
We cannot wait to come back!
Great service and amazing tacos. Very nice decor! Recommend!
I really the decor of this place, however I ordered the shrimp tacos and they arrived way later then my friends meals, as well the tacos are so small and I barely had any ingredients in them. Not worth 18$. I will only go for the guac and tortillas on a special occasion. It’s unfortunate because I live right beside this place.
Tiny portions. Fair flavors. Expensive. $15 guacamole made table side by an employee who looked miserable. Only highlight was an amazing server who went above and beyond to be helpful.
Great restaurant! Hip atmosphere with very cool Mexican art all over the walls. Food is a solid B+, pretty authentic, but a little pricey because of the cool neighbourhood. The service is friendly and casual but very good. Would definitely recommend you try this place!
Gr8 food and service i like it ,music fantastic and the waiter was so kind with us
