El Born in Brooklyn, New York has a number of different menus, all of which are influenced by Barcelona. The name itself comes from the El Born district of this famous city, where ancient alleyways feature the latest fashions and nightlife venues. Here in Brooklyn, El Born serves up new twists on Spanish favorites.

We had a fantastic time ordering tons of tapas to share amongst the four of us. Unintentionally hit happy hour, prices & drinks were perfect. Service was excellent. Can’t believe the place wasn’t packed! The food rivals my beloved Jaleos in D.C. We would definitely visit again!
amazing food and service.
My husband and I have eaten here several times before - usually at the bar - and it's one of our neighborhood favorites. On Monday we came back to celebrate his birthday (along with his foodie son) and ate in the garden out back -- such a nice space we never knew was there. We had the squid ink paella for the first time and it was delicious! We also ordered our usual favorites: dates stuffed with cheese and wrapped with bacon, roasted mushrooms with ham and rosemary aioli, Brussel sprouts with ham and raisin, grilled octopus and the amazing braised oxtail rolled in pasta.......Yum! They also do specialty gin and tonics - my favorite is the ginger one. The staff are very attentive and friendly. You'll love it too!
The food good have been good if they learned how to season there food. Nice choices.
Great tapas find in Greenpoint. Just a few seconds from Mccarren park and accessible via the G train off of Nassau, which makes it convenient for Williamsburg locals and friends coming from downtown Manhattan. The food is tasty and hits the spot when I'm craving Spanish small plates, but the meat paella is also worth checking out. I will say it's a bit disappointing that they have a small backyard since it always seems to be busy and taken up. The inside dining space is sufficient but they also make you shift seats to accommodate new and departing guests on the central high table, so the service should be more generous and friendly to compensate for that.
The tapas were delicias!!!
The food was great, as always! The service this time around wasn't good. There were two servers who both came by and introduced themselves and attempted to take our orders. The first server didn't ring in our drinks so we didn't get our drinks until well into the first two plates. Having worked in the industry for years, I'm definitely not one to ask for a handout but they should have been complimentary at that point. Also, I ordered a glass of prosecco with dessert that was $9 on the menu but when we got the bill it was $11.
Brought my 82 year old stepfather, here for his birthday with my mum and younger brother and it was a total win. We went early on a Sunday and avoided the crowd/noise. The wait-staff was attentive and informative about how much to order without hovering. Each dish was better than the last - the crispy Brussel Sprouts was the best with the Octopus a close second. Had a great bottle of Cava, dessert and all the food we could eat and didn't break the bank. Definitely a hit.
Great food, good service, awesome cocktails, nice ambiance. We went with a party of 8 and they made us order the chef's menu, although the open table confirmation said that it was only mandatory for parties of 10 or more. We ended up getting way more food than we wanted or needed and ended up leaving a ton of food behind at the restaurant. Did not appreciate being upsold. Would recommend for a date, but not for a group dinner.
El Born was a nice experience. Our reservation was at 9pm and it took almost 15 minutes to get seated because the previous party was lingering over a glass of wine. The hostess welcomed us to sit at the bar while we waited, which was nice, but of course added an extra drink to the tab. We were seated at the front table so we could watch people walking by outside. The sangria was delicious, as were the tapas we ordered. The price was excellent between 3 people for 4 tapas. I would recommend it for a date night or a casual tasting menu. The noise was a little loud, the acoustics amplified voices and they had music playing in addition, so if you're looking for romantic and quiet, probably not the best place.
Great brunch,we went for the unlimited brunch but were glad we ordered a couple extra tapas. Service was great and the drinks were easy to come by. Only thing that could have been better were the portions.
El Born was fantastic — very accommodating to our large group, and the chef’s menu was incredibly generous and beyond delicious. The seafood paella was truly next level.
Excellent food and service! I will recommend to everyone and will come back.
Absolutely fabulous service and food!! The chef selection took the guss work out of ordering and it was totslly worth it.
Had a wonderful experience there on NYE. Food especially the seafood paella was absolutely delicious. Am excited to go again another time.
Great small plates!
Had a group of 10, sat at the long table by the bar and had great food and service the whole time. The employees were all helpful and sweet, offering suggestions for different wine and food pairings. We were there around 6:30, so we got to enjoy the happy hour specials for a bit as well, so the bill at the end of the night was surprisingly low. The paellas were all great, as were their signature gin and tonic drinks, which I recommend highlt.
Food was inconsistent, some plates good, some horrible.
For my second time at El Born, I booked a table for 10 for my birthday dinner. The restaurant was very flexible with our numbers and seated us comfortably at the extension of the bar. The table was great, as the birthday girl, I could easily speak to all my guest. That said, we did feel a bit in the way of the bartenders, who needed to pass behind us throughout dinner.
The food at El Born is always excellent. This time our usually rare tuna came out a little over cooked. Additionally, our server, who's english was not perfect, did not tell us the specials. He did not hesitate to make recommendations, however, for dishes, and in some cases put in orders for specials that we had specifically said we did not want to order. That said, we were 10 and the dishes are tapas/appetizer size, so we welcomed the additional plates that we had not ordered. The same conundrum occurred with drinks. Some guests received new drinks without ordering them, and sometimes without having even finished their current drink!
I however had a great time and as usual, enjoyed the food immensely. I will definitely return again to El Born, but with a smaller group that may be seated with servers and not bartenders who were extending their service to our bartop table.
We had a great brunch here and they have a menu true to Barcelona and Catalan food. Loved their brussel sprouts, fideua, and escalavida. Definitely great for a group.
Excellent tapas, great happy hour and very attentive service.
Great customer service and food from start to finish!
Very nice place with attentive service. Food was seved at a very good pace alowing for the dishes to be eaten as they were placed.
Restaurant tables are small and very tightly placed. Much better for a tapa then for a full dinner. Paella was undercooked. Croquetas very good.
The food was absolutely delicious, we ordered 4 plates and all of them were outstanding. The service was very good as well, the waitress was very helpful regarding recommendations, pairing and quantities.
This is definitely an appetizer and drink spot. Many of the food options were not appealing. I had the chicken meal and it was very bland. The same can be said of the octopus. The sangria and filet minion appetizer were awesome!!!
Bartender congenial. Apps were very interesting and delicious. The three of us each had different versions of the paella. They were ok, but only just ok. Oh almost forgot the best, our waitress provided her recommendations based on her favorite dishes. Then later informed us that it was her first day as her reason for forgetting to order one of our entrées, and mistakenly billing us for three deserts by accident. Had to wind up taking one paella home.
All in all a big YAWN!!
Food was great and the servings are generous for tapas but not quite an entre. oh, and did I say the food was delicious.
Great food.... like in Barcelona. Super kind staff. Cool ambiance.
I've never reviewed a restaraunt before but this place was so good I felt compelled.
I'm not exactly an expert on Spanish (or more specifically Catalan) cuisine, but this place has a authenticity and simplicity that seems to often be lacking in New York. The food is an honest reflection of a cooking tradition, rather than an attempt to create flashy culinary mashups that so often fail. The portions are a little more generous than many small-plate restaurants, so the check shouldn't be crazy. Great wine menu, relaxed but attentive staff who seem to really care about the food they're serving, and occasional live music that is actually very good, and appropriate to the setting without being conversation killing.
A fine example of tapas dining with excellent ingredients, albeit a limited selection which hopefully will expand over time. We had the paella which was worth the 25 minute wait. Desserts were a for both the 'eye' and the sweet tooth. On balance, not to be missed!
Our dining experience at El Born was truly fantastic. I have been to barcelona twice and dining at El Born was like eating in the finest restaurants of Barcelona. Very authentic! Very lively!! Muy, muy delicioso!!!. Can't wait to return.
2nd time at this place. Fresh interesting zesty Spanish food. Good specials. Portions pretty reasonable.
Just terrific food, with one of the most creative tapas menus in the 5 boroughs. Fresh ingredients, lovlingly prepared and beautifully presented. The service is great (acceptably aloof), the staff is knowledgeable about the food, wine and cheese. The music was perfect and not too loud (on a very rainy Friday night)! Cannot wait to return, friends in tow.
Went on a sleepy Sunday night at 7, it was at first almost empty. Very nice and helpful waiter. Uncomfortable stools, very few regular chairs. Food: all good and quite interesting! Absolutely wonderful roasted vegetables with red pepper sauce. Rare tuna and raw beef also excellent! Will go again.
Nice local place. Friendly people. Too well lit. Very loud. Small tables for 4 people. Lot of specials (over 8). But not written and had to be repeated three times. Great quality selection on Shared menu. But no sequence or speed when items would come out. And no room on table for multiple plates.
Greenpoint is having great places to eat and have coffee.
The Born was really good.
Excellent food and excellent service!I really recommend it!
We checked out El Born after reading that it had made top dining destinations in Eater. Overall we were moderately disappointed. We started with a glass of $14 wine with an extremely lousy pour. The wine was nothing special. Three of us ordered about 4 small plates with warm olives being one of the better ones. Fillet, tender but nothing special, Cod collar, fishy and then some larger plates, cauliflower and duck casselot. The sauces in both were all mushy cheesy. The server should have mentioned that they were similar and not a good pair at all. We also had the highly acclaimed octopus which was limp and cold. Small beers at great prices helped along with very nice service and atmosphere, but not coming back..sorry.
