One of the best! If you like Mole' this place takes it to a new level. Fresh ingredients, delicious flavors, and amazing dishes. Great selection of tequila and the staff has really good knowledge of the different flavor profiles each of them brings. Staff is also extremely friendly and attentive. My wife and I drive to San Diego from LA just to spend a night and eat at El Agave. If you have never been here, go, GO NOW!!!
I love this restaurant. My husband and I have been dinning at El Agave for over 15 years. We have always had a wonderful experience, not just because every item in the menu that we have tried has been delicious, but also because the service is exceptional.
I have been twice and the food is always amazing. The margaritas are some of the best I’ve ever had and the service never disappoints. Highly recommend!!
Our waiter was pleasant, professional and very helpful with explaining items on the menu. The food was fantastic. I had the carnitas tacos and the pork was the best I have ever tasted. We tried the tres leches cake (homemade) and it was melt in your mouth delicious!
We went to Agave with high expectations but we were mildly disappointed with the quality of food. Beautiful presentation but the filet mignon was a poor cut of beef. I warned my husband not to expect great steak at a Mexican restaurant and I was correct. I got the chili relleno and frankly it was cold and filled mostly with nuts and raisins as opposed to meat. The place is cute and the service was good and the food tasted good but I was expecting a higher quality based on previous reviews.
Ordered Tacos Pescado but was too spicy to eat. I had to send it back. Thameywere gracias to replace the fish w-o the hot sauce that thefishhad been covered in. The rest of the meal was good. My partner had the Pork Mole. He said it was good. We will go again and again. Lunch is alsovery good.
Best margarita I ever had and the mole is fantastic.
My date and I had a "nice" meal at El Agave. Both our entrees were good, though not quite great. Similarly, our appetizers and cocktails were interesting and good but not great. (My date did not finish hers). The creativity and effort was obvious in the appetizers and entrees and drinks, but they didn't quite come together well enough. While we weren't exactly disappointed, I don't think either of us are in a hurry to go back either.
El agave has a smaller menu selection than other Mexican restaurants but food, drinks and service were excellent.
Non authentic Mexican food. Took the waiter 15 min to even acknowledge us.
Business dinner solo. Excellent food. Great service. My favorite place in San Diego for Mexican food.
Was our favourite eatery in Old town, fab margaritas by the lovely lady bartender!
Delicious Mexican food and drinks . Very good service.
Not what I expected. I wanted traditional. I was good, but didn’t make me want to come back for more.
Everything was fantastic with the exception of the parking. PARKING IS THE PITS....but everything else was wonderful.
Wow, this was noveau Mexican at its best, and great ambiance and service.
Very friendly staff and the food was outstanding! The octopus was cooked perfectly, soft and flavorful. The guacamole and the moles were also to die for.
great chipotle filet, croquetas, and of course tequilas
Amazing food, and extremely knowledgeable waitstaff.
There should be music. Music makes things more fun, interesting and even romantic. Otherwise totally amazing!
I was in town for a conference and had been here years ago, so made reservations. The moles are best I have had anywhere, the selection of tequilas and mescals amazing, and the service very friendly and attentive. If I have time, I will go again before I leave town.
Never disappointed at El Avave, and their Mole is fantastic!
We have been living herein San Diego on/off for the last 16 years and have been wanting to come for such a long time. Well, it was definitively worth the wait. The food and service did not disappoint!
It’s a bit deceiving. When you look at pictures the dining area looks so much bigger than it really is. It was a bit uncomfortable sitting so close to the people behind us. Also very hard to not listen to other people’s conversations, way to small in my opinion. But the food was good and the service was excellent. All the waiter were very nice
The service is phenomonal and the food is unique. Try the Mole! And the spicy margaritas are great too - just say no agave and they still taste really yummy without the sugar. We had a wonderful time and will be back soon.
Surprisingly good Mexican Food in Old Town! Yummy drinks, delicious queso fundido appetizer (with chili),, finishing up with shrimp tacos and a chili relleno = delish!!
Without question this is the best authentic Mexican food in San Diego! The mole sauce is incredible!
Always great food and fine service. Some nights some guest groups can be disturbingly loud. But I’d wear earplugs for their moles some nights.
The restaurant had a nice ambiance which was cozy and romantic. Our service was so great and professional. He made sure he was not be intrusive into our night. Their food was authentic and delicious. The view from their second story was beautiful. Definitely returning!
Even though a reservation was made in advance, was seated at a cold, high top table in the rear of the restaurant. Would have liked the option to wait for a better table. Excellent food, powerful drinks and good service almost made up for the terrible seating.
Amazing, authentic mole, and an amazing tequila list. The service was amazing as well. Great ambiance. I've been there twice, and it's been great, both times.
Good food, great drinks and excellent service. Great place to sample a wide range of tequilas with the help of knowledgeable staff.
El Agave has some of the best mole's on the planet. Have been going here for over 15 years and am never disappointed. Over 1200 tequilas and mezcals and they serve them with an amazing sangrita on the side. The liquor store downstairs has an amazing array of tequilas and mezcals. Top notch.
Fantastic restaurant. I always go to El Agave when in San Diego. Not to be missed!
It was our first visit to El Agave and we loved it. The margaritas were wonderful, the food was awesome. My husband had the homemade mole, it was delicious. I had the steak tacos, they were so tasty. Even the chips and sauces they brought to the table were fresh, delicious, and different. The service was friendly and fast. Great restaurant and we will be going back!
Simply the best Mex Available anywhere N of the border.
Always one of the best restaurants for great food and drink and service in San diego!
Excellent Mexican food - way beyond the traditional Tex Mex you find everywhere. The Mole Poblano and the Camarones a la Tequila were first class, as was the Chocolate Creme Brule, which his not a traditional Mexicvan desert.
The food was excellent. Definitely a must if you are in the area!
Amazing filet chipotle. Amazing quality and taste. I wish you guys were around LA area.
