I've been to Effie's before so I know what to expect, which is why I go back. The ambiance is low key, unpretentious, which is refreshing. The food is good. On a nice evening the outdoor sitting is a plus, especially because it is on a relatively quiet narrow street with almost no traffic. The service is good too, without being too overwhelming. It's a good place for small groups. And the byob is a big plus.
Overall, good experience. Effie’s chicken was excellent, the lamb souvlaki was dry and overcooked. The price was high for the quality of food, especially compared to other restaurants in the city.
The outdoor area was perfect for a nice night. The service was unfortunately poor. There was one server working outdoors and it was unfair to him; he was very polite and kind. Like other reviewers mentioned, and even the hostess said, this place is understaffed and takes away from the experience.
Overall, decent. Will probably not be back.
Effie's has great Greek food in a charming atmosphere that almost makes you think you're in a taverna in Athens. The authentic flavors makes me think there's a "yiayia" from the old country serving up her favorites dished to friends and family. When it's warm out, the back patio is lovely.
Fantastic! We ate upstairs, cozy atmosphere, and have a reservation.
Authentic food, ambience and service.
Great food and service liking eating with family!
Great authentic Greek food!
Such a great BYOB gem. Food was as delicious and it felt like you were at your aunts house.
Food was great. Our server Elly was a delight! Even though the restaurant was clearly short staffed that night, our order came out quickly. My only complaint is that there was no pork souvlaki option.
Great food, small and noisy
Effie’s is such a comforting place. The food is soul satisfying, if not particularly innovative. The staff is so welcoming and generous. The prices are low and the quality of the food is high. I mentioned to our waitress that my husband was at home sick and she sent me home with a second dessert for him. You have to love Effie’s.
I LOVE THIS PLACE! The staff are incredible and so is the food
5th time there. Food has always been Aplus.
The service was personable and generous . We ordered the sharing platter as an appetizer that was more than enough for 3 people and we ordered 2 large entrees (the shrimp dish and veggie pasta. The food was delicious and a great value. I️ am looking forward to going back again soon.
Delicious food and great service
Pre-theater dinner was served promptly and the food was outstanding.
My wife and I have dined at Effie’s many times. After shows, when we are just in the mood for some good Greek home cooking. It’s a BYOB which we enjoy. The staff are like the best. We really enjoy our dinners each and every time we dine at Effie’s.
Excellent as usual; we both had the special chicken in phyllo dough with mushrooms and a white sauce; moist, large chicken pieces, and an excellent cream sauce. The phyllo was crisp, not too dry and light. We finished off with Greek coffee and their usual desert, like baclava but with a soft sweet cream inside. service was excellent
Went to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the girl. Everything about Effie’s was amazing. Reminded me of my grandmothers kitchen. Very comfortable space and all food was fresh and homemade. The pita was warm and melted in your mouth. The waitress was the sweetest and even gave us a dessert to compliment our meal.
We were the only people in the restaurant
Loved it! Authentic Greek food, warm & cozy atmosphere - And BYOB!
It has seen its day. Grumpy staff that forget its about the diner and not the restaurant. Answered phone while serving us, food was not hot, restaurant was chilly and drafty, and meal overall was average experience. Many better than averages choices out there. Take one of them.
Great sevice, great values, fresh ingredients. Good pre-concert venue.
Very cute place. One waiter but he was on the ball. Very attentive and friendly. Food was delicious. We had the moussaka, the Effie’s chicken and a chicken souvlaki. All were very good. They even bring you a dessert on the house that was delicious. We will surely be back!
As always the staff makes you feel at home and are to welcoming and nice. The food was delicious! I would keep going back over and over again.
Simple, authentic, and classic Greek food in a cozy BYO taverna setting.
It was a good experience. Solid food, solid service. However, no one liked the Greek lasagna. Everything else was delightful
Delicious food! Nice people!
We took family from out of town to Effie's for a weeknight dinner. The food was delicious, the server was warm and friendly and we all had a great time.
First time there. Outrageous mussels in mustard sauce. That alone will bring me back. Bronzino fish was spectacular. Will be going back real soon
Food was very good and I've been to many Greek places ! Waitress was very nice ! I would highly recommend!
Another great meal at Effie's. Becoming one of my favorite Philly restaurants.
We were a large party of 10 people - service was great and the food was delicious! We will certainly be back soon!
Overall, Effie's was a fun experience. However, about 2 hours before our meal, the restaurant called and asked if we could come 30 minutes earlier than we originally planned. We were fine with that and came early to the restaurant, but then felt that they rushed us to order, even after we ordered appetizers.
love this place! food is wonderful, staff is friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.
Great food and friendly service! The food is authentic and you will never leave hungry. Reasonably priced and BYO too!
Effie's is always wonderful. We were one of their first customers which the owner remembered. It is always delicious.
I made a reservation for 6pm for my family and we felt really rushed. The waiter was rude and told us we had to leave by 8. My family drove from out of town and we wanted to relax and enjoy ourselves but we couldn’t. Food was OK nothing noteworthy and the service was so bad that we will not be going back. The waiter didn’t come over throughout the entire meal to check on us. I wouldn’t recommend.
I had dinner at Effie's before the speaker series at the Kimmel Center. I was seated in the garden which was very nice on a warm October evening. The service was quick and the prices were reasonable. The meat on my gyro souvlaki platter was a little dry and overcooked. Otherwise it was a pleasant meal close to the Kimmel Center.
Always great food and service. One of our favorite places to eat.
