The restaurant has a unique mission; to eat well and do good. Founded in 2007, the mission of EDWINS Leadership and Restaurant Institute is to instill leadership skills in formerly incarcerated men and women through an education in the culinary arts.
Our aim is to change the face of re-entry through food and hospitality.
Dinner: Monday - Wednesday: 4:00pm - 10:00pm, Thursday - Saturday: 4:00pm - 11:30pm. Closed Sunday.
Excellent dining experience!
The food was great, and this is a great cause. I thought it was overpriced, as I have had much better French cuisine for a similar or fraction of the cost, however it’s worth paying knowing what your money is going towards. The ambiance was weird; terrible playlist- the music is all over the place, and the tableside preparation is a fun thing - but the floor plan makes it very inconvenient! Carts blocking all aisles, or preventing you from getting to the bathroom, or just far too close for comfort when the table next to you is having a tableside dish prepped. Overall I would still recommend this spot, mostly for giving back to a worthy institution and getting a decent meal out of it. Just don’t expect a ‘best meal of my life 5 star’ experience.
As always we had a wonderful experience at Edwins. Not only was the service personal and attentive but it was also warm and full of heart. The meal was delicious. Friends were dining with us who had never been to a French restaurant because they were afraid the portions would be small, the food too fussy and the service elitist. Well, Edwins goes against all those stereotypes and proved to be an excellent first French dining experience for them.
We will definitely be back again and again.
This is our 3rd time here and we have been most impressed each time. Not only is the food amazing the service is always wonderful. Brandon should be congratulated for this restaurant concept and for what he offers the community!! Thank you!
We will return to EDWINS
The atmosphere is lovely. Our food was delicious. The service was excellent. Also, it is nice to feel that you are supporting a good cause.
The food was exceptional! A true delight. As always the overall experience was memorable.
We ordered items that we have never or rarely had — seafood sausage (never heard of such a thing but it was great -- made with ground shrimp, lobster, fish..), a delicious piece of quiche with a just-right-size salad, and we both had duck breast. It was done perfectly! That was a huge difference than at another fancy restaurant where the duck came totally raw and tough.
Perfect flan -- that's an art -- and super chocolate pyramid. With a candle for the birthday.
This was my 2nd visit to Edwins. The first was a few years ago with friend’s and most recently it was to celebrate my anniversary with my wife. To know the story of this place only adds to the allure of dining here. I’ll spare you those details, you can google it. The service was excellent, the staff was extremely attentive and because I’d indicated on my reservation that I was celebrating my anniversary, they brought us complimentary champagne shortly after being seated. We indulged in some options from the cheese cart which was rolled over to our table and each of the cheeses we chose got an explanation of the taste, origin and firmness which was nice. Then the main course was grilled lamb chops with stewed garden vegetables. Very good and very tender and cooked to perfection. Even the veggies were delicious, served in a blood orange marmalade which made them slightly sweet. Over all it was a great experience and also nice to see the owner very involved and refilling water and clearing plates as needed. He was friendly as well as the rest of the staff. Great for a date night.
Amazing experience! It was our first time at Edwin’s and we will be back. The food, the service, the knowledge was all superb. We had a wonderful night out.
Service was spectacular. Waiter knew the menu inside and out. Bread plate was never empty, food was delicious and the value was outstanding.
Friendly and eager service. Delicious soups, salads. We also had wine and the cheese board. The cheese descriptions and hostess recommendations were very good. It was also educational and entertaining. Most of the group have never dined at Edwin's before but now all of us are looking forward to returning.
Fantastic food and service tonight. Thanks Scott for the service and George for the bananas foster!
We love this restaurant. It’s our go-to for special occasions. Very romantic and the food is amazing.
EDWINS never disappoints! Had the burger and it was possibly the best burger I’ve ever had! Will definitely be back!
You cannot convince me that grinding meat and sauteeing burgers tableside while the burnt fat and meat smell permeates and offends other diners and doing so for only 2 obnoxious arrogant diners outweighs the comfort, experience and joy of having “normal” dishes for all others sitting in the dining room is a good business model. Sorry Brandon.
Everything was wonderful.
The flavor and creativity of the dishes made for a high value experience. I would return again for the ambiance, a gem in shaker square. That said, the tipping protocol was not clear.
Fantastic. Everything was perfect. Wonderful service.
Delicious from beginning to end and my favorite part is the cheese cart!😀
We had heard about Edwin’s and read many of the reviews. They don’t exaggerate!
Food- top rate.
Appetizer Nicolas salad very good
Main course-I had the guinea hen, amazing! Sauce perfection. My wife had scallops that she said were some of the best ever?
Dessert- Lemon tart. Really good, crust a little bland
Great wine list for all budgets
Pacing of meal could have been a little slower.
Can’t wait to come back!
This has the best spirit of any French restaurant I’ve been to in my life. It feels so good knowing everybody is learning and it masked the experience so valuable as it is incisive and it includes you!
The food was excellent. We all enjoyed our meals. The service was attentive. However, the music was so loud we could not talk to each other. It was turned down for us but it should never have been that loud. The music selected was not conducive to a pheasant eating experience. But, the food was really good.
Every once in awhile we trek it down to Edwin's which is 45 min. from the East side. But it is always worth it. Not only is the service and food excellent but it's wonderful to be in a place where people believe in second chances. Will keep going back there.
First time there. Casual place with good cocktails and solid menu. Food was very good. Had Bouillabaisse, Scallops and grouper for our entrees. All were cooked perfectly. Had soufflé for dessert which was made perfectly. Service was attentive, not over-bearing. Waitress was very-pleasant but never came to check on us to see how entrees were cooked. No big deal.
I really enjoyed Edwins and enjoyed supporting the concept. I would definitely go back
The nicest people working.
Been there many times.
This was my second visit & my friends' first visit. We all have sons with "issues," so we support the entire concept of Edwin's. Continued best wishes! We also enjoy French cuisine & it's outstanding at Edwin's. Lorenzo was very good & personable preparing the bananas foster. Dakota was a capable server. The cheese cart is outstanding. The music was a bit loud & the lights were a bit dim. (Hope I'm not showing my age!) Again, continued success to Edwin's.
We celebrated my birthday and it was our first visit to Edwin's..thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!!
This was our third time dining at Edwin’s and the first two times were excellent. This visit the food was average, we felt rushed with service. In general, not up to par with previous visits. Won’t give up on Edwin’s yet, usually very good.
My wife seems to fall in love with me a little more every time we eat there. We’ve traveled the world going to 3 Star Michelin restaurants and although the food isn’t as good, the experience always brings us closer together in the same way. Love it. Keep up the good work. Also, keep the Friday patio music!
It was great! I would without a doubt go back anyday.
5 of us and we all had the Grouper, and it was unanimous that nothing on the menu could be as good. For 3 visitors from Poland they said it was the best restaurant they had ever been too and the best food they had tasted. What else can one say!
My Mom and I loved our dinner last night at Edwins! It was delicious, our server(s) were all very friendly and attentive, and because it was a beautiful night out, we appreciated the outdoor atmosphere on Shaker Square. Edwin's has done a wonderful job of creating a "cozy" but open seating area that doesn't feel like sidewalk, but more intimate somehow. My Mom has been before and raved about it. This was my first time and I will rave, too! Thanks to EVERYONE at Edwin's for treating us so well. I hope you will be in the 'hood for a LONG time!
We had a fabulous experience at Edwin's. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the live music provided. Everything from the drinks to the food to the service was exceptional. I would recommend it in a heartbeat. We will be back! And, the concept is truly worthy and laudable!
Service is superb! Love the whole restaurant concept and we enjoyed the ambiance and food.
We had an outstanding meal. The service was very good and the food delicious. There are many unique meats available which we enjoyed, frog legs and rabbit. This is for sure a treat place as it is expensive (well worth the price).
The team did a great job with our meal. Very professional, and a great establishment to support. Our dessert chef graduated from the program that day and it's exciting to see the folks working the restaurant progressing.
Delicious and such an awesome concept!
There was one vegan appetizer and 3 vegan entrees. All were excellent. And there was an incredibly rich vegan chocolate dessert that was worth the trip from the west side all by itself. So if you are one of the growing number of people following a plant-based diet, then Edwins is a great place to enjoy top shelf cuisine. And it doesn't hurt that all of this deliciousness is in service of helping people coming out of prison find a second chance.
We came here early because my mother had just finished a round of chemo and was immune comprimised. We didn't want a crowd. We came to the 4:30 Happy Hour. Although we didn't select any of the drinks on the Happy Hour menu, we did have 3 appetizers from it. They were wonderful! Truffled cauliflower, Escargot and artichokes. The plate presentations were beautiful the flavors amazing! Dinner was even better. I had the salmon with horseradish: YUM! Mom had quiche; good, My dad had clams with tomato pasta; he was very pleased. I would like to try the souffle next time. We had the bread pudding with blueberry ice cream. AMAZING! Prices are steep, but the flavors made it worthy. The staff is ex-cons supervised by expert restaurant mangers. The staff is being taught a trade in fine dining (instead of McDonalds) where they will be able to support themselves well. Many of the staff do not know exactly how to do various waiter/bartender tasks, but they are learning and are eager to please. Treat them with respect; they are learning. I felt like we were treated very well and the food was amazing. I would go back any time!
Excellent french cuisine and very good service. Staff are knowledgable, courteous and helpful.
