Wonderful Find in East Village.
They have a great happy hour with $1 oysters!
What a fabulous find in the east village!! My first time there, and I was treated as if I had been going there for years. It was my boyfriend's birthday, and the staff went out of their way to make us feel special; a candle in our dessert and two glasses of champagne on the house! More important, the food was terrific!! I had the cod and it was made to perfection. The snapper was delicate and tasted out of this world! I used to own a French seafood restaurant in Soho that was highly rated, so I think my critical taste should be noted!! Many thanks for making this a memorable dinner!!
Not bad - expensive if you don't take advantage of happy hour. We booked our table for 7.15pm and arrived on time. Seated quickly and had pleanty of oysters. They had run out of clams which was disappointing. Sadly we were basically asked to leave at 8.10 as they claimed to have another reservation - we would have ordered more food and wine but felt uncomfortable so followed our waiters direction out the door. Restaurant was half empty when we left. Strange ideas re service.
Food was good but waiter made the experience. Great wine recommendation and never an empty glass. Would have liked to tried the bar area it was quaint looking. Good time without emptying your wallet.
What a pleasant experience from start to finish.
We were sat promptly at primetime on Saturday night. Started off with a floral but not too heavy IPA and my girlfriend, being the classy woman she is, ordered an Old Fashioned.
Started off with the Buffalo Frog Legs and the Bronzino Ceviche – both we're out of this world. The Frog Legs were so good we ordered a second.
We split the Tuna entree which was perfectly seared, served with delicious Corn Polenta and Brussels Sprouts. Our server was nice enough to bring us a complimentary Tequila cocktail and Churros with a candle to celebrate our 3 year anniversary.
Overall a fantastic meal. I will definitely be back.
We've already made another reservation for dinner. Food was fantastic (multiple oyster choices, ceviches, seafood entrees), and the people that work here are nice and enthusiastic and great at their jobs. Going back next week!!
outstanding food, casual venue, good service. happy hour is a bargain at 1$ oysters and great drinks. Dinner selection is limited to seafood / fish but all is well prepared and there is a nice variety. Only churros on the house for dessert. Overall an excellent evening at a fair price
My friend and I had a very pleasant experience. We did not like out initial table but were re-seated politely and immediately after letting them know. Our waiter was friendly and competent, answering several questions about the menu.
The food itself was good. Not stellar or the best of anything, but very solid and well prepared. Our apps, the cod sliders and mackerel carpaccio, were delicious and interesting. For entrees, my friend had simply prepared fish with veggie sides which was nicely done. I had the octopus cassoulet, which I liked but felt it became a little monotonous bite after bite because it consists essentially only of octopus, beans and bacon. I would suggest ordering it to share.
We asked for a dessert menu, which they don't have, but were treated instead to mini churros with whisky-caramel dipping sauce on the house, a nice touch.
Atmosphere is sort of "active intimate" -- it was crowded and bustling but never felt distracting.
I would recommend for a nice meal with a friend or even a date.
Deafening, cramped, microscopic portions. An insult to its customers.
Friendly professional servers, oddly enough
We had fried oysters and fish tacos from the happy hours menu, tacos were OK, oysters very good but very small. Cod sliders were tasty. Good selection of draft beer
Great--want to go back. Fish and drinks were excellent, and so was vibe.
Amazing food for great price (when you consider other seafood restaurants in NYC of the same quality). We ordered the swordfish and octopus as our entrees, and the bass ceviche as appetizer. Everything was outstanding. Were most impressed by the service. Our waiter was clearly enjoying his night! It's always nice when you feel like the staff genuinely want to be there. Super friendly and thoughtful! We got a complimentary champagne and churros for dessert to top off the night, just because! Definitely brought smiles to our faces (and tummies...yummy!) Will 100% be back! It's the kind of spot we'd like to bring friends to, because it's so good!
Delicious oysters and Marlin carpaccio!
the food, ambiance and service was very good and great value. Not too much noise, easy to book for a group of 6 on a Saturday night. we'll definitely go back
Can't say enough good things about this place.
First - the food and quality of the ingredients are incredible. So fresh, and well prepared - simple and delicious.
Second - the value. Any other restaurant would easily charge $10+ more for each dish, but Edwin & Neal's is SO reasonable.
Third - the service. Wait staff is always extremely knowledgeable on every dish, willing to give great recommendations. Also our waiter this time gave us these out of control good churros with whiskey sauce AND champagne as a gift. He could not have been nicer.
Great place, will definitely be back! The food is such good quality and very fresh. Large selection of oysters. Get the branzino ceviche, it is out of this world!
A fun super casual dining spot. Good food
Edwin and Neal's is a nice addition to the East Village. The menu is limited but the food is tasty and well prepared, a place to eat and not linger--unless you go for Happy Hour as others were enjoying while we were there (early). We would return occasionally.
have had the same experience here twice: extremely slow service, mediocre food, and over-priced drinks. Wouldn't recommend it to many...
Perfect place to pop in for happy hour--fresh oysters perfectly shucked right in front of you, total steal at $1 each. I also enjoyed dinner after HH, the octopus cassoulet was absolutely delicious! Staff is cheerful and hospitable. Will return.
It was a great dining experience . Service and food were terrific. Easy to find , reasonable prices and def will ho back,
I was really surprised at the quality of food - not nearly as fresh or interesting as I expected.
Made a reservation for an early mid-week dinner with a friend. Got there at the start of happy hour and decided to sit at the bar since there were just a few patrons. It was moderately quiet (no need to yell to converse) and had a nice amount of natural light coming in, which made for a nice and relaxing time to eat and grab a few drinks. Very friendly staff, especially the bartenders who helped direct my friend to a wine she would like. The happy hour menu of oysters, clams, and fish tacos was very nicely priced, fresh and tasty, and comfortably filling. Second time there and looking forward to going back again.
Second time dining here, and the meal was just as excellent as the first. Delicious oysters --very fresh and expertly shucked, very tasty sweet and sour calamari (think General Tso without the heavy batter), succulent mussels, and a really good smoked filet of salmon. And, with all that food (a dozen oysters) plus two beers and two glasses of wine, the tab was only $135 including tax but before tip. A really good value these days in Manhattan. Finally, a solid playlist that was enjoyed both by the 20-somethings in the room and us geezers.
The Happy Hour oysters are great and a bargain. Limited wine list but extensive beer selection. Fine fish and excellent service. We would go back.
Has the same vibe and owners as Upstate just around the corner, but with more space and reservations (and a more extensive beer list). I honestly prefer the entrees and appetizers at Upstate, but the oyster happy hour is just as good.
The food was very good, the fried calamari was over done, lose the of the fish when over dressed. The were good and the softshell crap was good. The on the house fried banana was fair but hit the spot for desert . Last, no coffee , espresso is a game changer.
it's odd, but this city surrounded by water is painfully short on "real" seafood restaurants. we have plenty of places where you can spend a lot money on fancy preparations and pretty plates or worse, bad copies of authentic waterfront seafood shacks that leave you feeling completely robbed, wallet and soul.
every day, there are more and more oyster happy hours and that's a great thing. Not many of them are in places worth staying for dinner.
Edwin & Neal's is.
to start they host a truly excellent happy hour based on a very interesting oyster selection expertly and quickly shucked. if that weren't enough, they'll quick fry them and put them back in their shells on a dollop of dill tartar sauce. sick of oysters? fried clams the same way. sick of clams? fish tacos.
the fry cook is a genius.
the perfect balance of crispy and succulent. the ingredients sing. and that's why you stay for dinner.
fish bar food done this well is why frying was invented.
I heard their big sister restaurant around the corner is OK too.
Wonderful place for raw oysters and more especially at Happy hour - a great deal !
Decided to try their happy hour specials and they were great. The raw oysters especially awesome and delicious.
The waitress was amazing at helping me decide on my order...buffalo frog legs! After a few oysters the frog legs were a great new dining experience.
A top-notch, no-frills seafood joint. Everything was cooked with care, and the fish was clearly extremely fresh. Oysters were also top-notch (we had the East Coast variety on offer that evening). Mussels were in a classic white wine / garlic broth and were heavenly. cod and skate both delicious. Prices were extremely fair, and portions were larger than one would expect given the price points. Excellent beer selection, and some good wines as well. Go and enjoy.
The happy hour is excellent especially going into dinner.
Terrific menu, great service - such a great last-minute find! We're definitely coming back!
Enjoyed our happy hour oysters, along with the spin on the frogs legs in buffalo sauce. These proved just spicy enough to still enjoy their unique flavor. The mussels were served in a delicious broth, but best of all served with frites dusted with an Old Bay seasoning. What a treat! Have already recommended to friends.
food was not amazing
Highly recommend the Happy Hour. The waitstaff was such a joy. She was friendly and warm and very accommodating. The kitchen made a mistake in our entrees (mixed up the sides) so the waitress brought us free side dishes. My favorites were the appetizers. Great fresh oysters. However, the entrees (I had the cod; my friend had the salmon) were extremely under-seasoned. But those who ordered the fish sandwich really liked it. I will definitely be back (but mainly for happy hour).
The oysters are really fresh, the bartenders are spot on for service, and super friendly. I had a great time and there was no hassle when I needed to update my reservation. Great space and easily accessible.
Those folks from Upstate have outdone themselves again!! The food, drinks, service, warm decor are all top notch and match the feel and quality that Upstate is achieving. Make reservations while you can still get one!!
Happy hour osyters and fish taco! It was amazing, going back for sure.
