Summerlicious menu was exquisite! Food very elegant, had many layers to it, adventurous combinations. Comparable to the high end fusion places in Vancouver. Have not tried their regular menu, not sure how it measures up to the summerlicious one.
Food was good. I recommend kobe meat sausage and marinated chicken. The assorted sushi was delicious and unique, the taste is different from other sushi locations I have been to.
Service is good, nothing to complain about. I felt bad for informing the person who is not a server than we were ready to order.
EDO is quiet and romantic, with a small candle in the centre of the table. Great for dates. Food is delicious, sushi is incredibly fresh.
Nice Summerlicious menu, excellent value at 5 courses for only $35 per, excellent Japanese Chef ensures quality and presentation are top notch, a real gem at a good price
We were there for the first time, trying the Summerlicious menu. The food was awesome! Delicious and creative. Things like a delicious Japanese version of Caesar Salad; chicken breast in seven spices - buttery soft and perfect; a dessert of black sesame seed "soup" with vanilla ice cream. We'll be back.
Great tasting food.
Tried the tasting menu. Portions were small, but by the end of the five courses, a good amount to not over-eat.
Clearly understaffed the night i visited, but overall a great experience.
It is unforgivable for a higher end sushi resto like EDO to overbook so dramatically and accept unlimited pick-up orders, with little regard for in-restaurant customers. While I understand Mothers Day is a busy evening, there is no excuse for a reserved table only coming available 45 mins after the confirmed reservation, and the meal still not have being fully delivered to the table after another 90 minutes. 2.5 hours after we entered EDO, we asked for the bill even though not all our sushi had come.
I've eaten at EDO many many times, and two things were very troubling: (1) total disregard for customers, and (2) the quality of the sushi we did have was way lower than it has been at any time I have been there. The sushi was unimaginatively presented, looked like a rushed all-you-can-eat quality tray when delivered, and was wholly unimpressive. Unacceptable at this price point. Staff tried but were simply overwhelmed The owner better shake things up as there were many very upset patrons there that night. based on this experience, it appears EDO has lost its lustre; maybe they've had it too good for too long - lots of alternatives less than 10 min drive away
We have been and continue to be biG fans of Edo! The food has been and continues to be great.
The service seem to be struggling of late and has disappointed on our last two visits.
We remain loyal, living in hope for a return to re staff that were efficient and friendly!
As always the sushi was fantastic. Fish was fresh, maki were delicious, everything was great. Service was a bit slow but very friendly and attentive.
They were short on server. Therefore the service was a slow but server were very nice.
Food is fresh and good but used to be more creative.
It is still a good place to go.
Fine dining ambiance and food quality with really large portion, and good value. Flavourful appetizers with classic japanese flavors and good dessert too.
We had dinner as Winterlicious thing, We had a reservation, but we had to wait 45 minutes for first dish after we ordered. Also, we didn't get the first dish even though it was on menu, we asked about it, then the response was "we don't have it anymore tonight". Even though we had a reservation, it happened. It is ok, sometimes it happens, I understand, but we didn't have any explanation, they just skipped first dish, and brought 2nd dish for us. Also, we had to wait next dish around 15 min everytime. its too long. I understand, it was Winterlicious thing, so it would be busier than other time, but you knew that. I don't think 2 to 3 people were enough for that day.
I would come back for second visit. The contrast between Japanese and European style food is quiet interesting. Portion is reasonable. Will come back visit with prefix menu
Excellent service, fresh fish, reasonable prices. What more could I ask for?....maybe could improve the ambiance and decor, as it seems a bit dated.
Always great food and service at EDO! Sushi is always fresh and delicious, and the service is terrific. It is one of my favourite spots.
My sister bought an EDO gift certificate in a fund-raising event and we used it on a Sunday night. Service was outstanding and food was tasty. I would definitley come back.-
As always, the food here is delicious. Almost tempted by the prix fixe menu I hadn't anticipated, I ended up with my regular sushi picks - spicy tuna, spicy salmon pizza and Dynamite maki. Nothing fancy, just delicious.
Dinner lasted two hours because the kitchen was behind w orders. Food was okay, nothing spectacular, especially for the price. Although I got the set menu for $35, which was adequate. But I wouldn't recommend it for a guy, might not be enough. Service was good. We got stuck in a corner and I was worried we'd get forgotten, but our server didn't let us down. We don't live anywhere near it, and was there articulately for the restaurant, of which I read good reviews. But we won't be going back there and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it either.
Always dependable, this neighbourhood gem consistently delivers excellent service with the highest quality sushi.
I went to EDO to celebrate my friend's birthday and we were pampered from the time of booking through to the complementary dessert. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. One of the guests was vegan and said she had one of the most inclusive dining experiences ever. The food is expertly prepared and delicious.
Last minute request from my daughter for sushi on a Saturday night, brought us to this neighborhood mainstay that used to be the 'it' sushi place ages ago. The restaurant needs an update esthetically and the menu is also in need of some unusual surprises as it offers basics only. Nothing signature or tempting. Sushi was average and very cold. Our server was the highlight of our experience and the fact that the menu did have a basic chicken teriyaki for my parents who don't enjoy sushi. Won't be returning here anytime soon.
My first visit here last month was such a great experience. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for my most recent visit. The food was good with the exception of some of the tempura batter being undercooked. Service that night however was a huge flop. We waited an extensive amount of time (almost an hour) before any of our food came out. By the end of the night we were very disappointed and frustrated with the service.
Overall it was a very good place to eat. We had the shrimp and vegetable tempura which were nice and crispy but could have had a tad bit more seasoning to them. We also had the black dragon roll and spyder roll, which were delicious. The rolls were a good size and seemed fresh. Our servers were attentive, multicultural, nice and helpful.
FOODWISE: Raw fish must be 1. absolutely 100% fresh 2.large portions for the price. Edo rates "good" on both counts but not "very good" or "excellent" on either. To be fair, neither do 95% of sushi places in Toronto, irrespective of price. Rice in nigiri and maki must be very fresh (moist): it was not.
OTHERWISE: extensive varied menu, attentive staff, elegant table settings, quiet (!), and a well-designed online reservation system. Tables, utensils, etc. are clean (a rarity in most Sushi places.) Ample (pay) parking right behind the restaurant.
Minor beefs: I had to change chairs. The one I sat on at first was low (the padding or springs were past their prime.) Tea cups elegant BUT too hot to handle (a universal problem in sushi places).
Everything was amazing. Not going to lie, booked it for the 1000 points but was extremely pleasantly surprised. Try the veggie gyoza!!
Their food is fantastic, service is awesome. Chef Ryo's menu never disappoint me. Great job!
Probably the best Summerlicious menu we have had in a number of years.
Everything about this restaurant was perfect from the caring, attentive service to the delicious, fresh food. I hesitate to call the food at this restaurant "fusion." Instead, I would say it's a traditional Japanese restaurant with a modern twist. Very innovative and wonderful food combinations. Would highly recommend it!
went for summerlicious. the dishes were very creative and delicious. Very fresh sushi.
I came here when it first opened around 1995 or perhaps later and it was a huge hit. At one time the owner and chef even had an upscale Japanese restaurant downtown, I think on Adelaide, which was really good, but it closed all too soon. My wife and I had many romantic memories of Edo so we thought to give it a try again, some years after slow service had turned us off the place, and it was as slow as it's ever been. The tables near us were just as annoyed and kept asking the poor server. It was obvious she was accustomed to the complaint, she had answers for everything. A more important table than us had the owner visit them to appease them. So I wouldn't recommend it unless you go on off hours, when possibly service will be a bit better.
Went with a group of 6 people. We were sat straight away and the service was relatively quick. We weren't sure why the sashimi came out at the same time as the appetizers and before the sushi. Regardless, all of the food was fresh and tasted incredible. This restaurant is easily a family favourite and we will be back again!
We ate the Summerlicious dinner menu for 4.
The food is well made and the service is very well done. However it seems the air conditioning was broken (or malfunctioning), which distracted the dining experience as we have to fan ourselves between courses. We booked at 6:15pm (which is the earliest until 8:45), but throughout the dinner up until we left at 8:30, the resturant was barely half-full, makes me wonder if they are subtly trying to deter diners using this site (or summerlicious diners?) to reserve seats for the prime dinner hours.
My father ordered the steakloin main dish and he find the meat portion too small, but for the rest of us choosing the tempura one it's enough.
Not sure if I planned to return outside of summerlicious.
Great service and food - love this place!
People on a diet should not have to be punished by not being able to dine with friends. Chefs who iare 'artists' fail to accommodate a large % of our population - primarily women. I had a dinner planned with my friend and did not want to cancel because I was on a diet. I called Edo in advance and they were very reassuring on the phone. When we arrived, I ordered food not exactly as described on the menu. The chef went out of his/her way to make my plate attractive, inviting and delicious. The wait staff were pleasant and great at understanding my order. My friend, who is Kosher, and I who live downtown, have been looking for a restaurant between Dundas and Wilson that would meet the needs of both of us. EDO is the first to succeed.
I visited this restaurant for dinner and left underwhelmed.
The restaurant was understaffed so often we were impatient waiting for attention from our waitress.
The food was decent but not memorable.
my friend and i had summerlicious lunch menu $20.
from appetizers to desserts, everything taste great.
they have vegetarian choice for sushi rolls and main salads.
it was our first visit at edo though, now we definitely want to
come back again for dinner.
try early our for weekend lunch, you might be able to avoid the crowd.
Had this place for Summerlicious and it is absolutely amazing! Every dish was very delicious and presentation of food was beautiful. The waitress also explained each dish to us, which was a nice touch. We will be back!
Terrific meal at Edo, server gave excellent explanation of each course.
the service was really, really slow.
We tried the summerlicious menu. The dishes were all elegantly prepared and our meal was brought out fairly quickly. We would definitely go again!
