Joined friends for a late night dessert and drinks get together. Delicious!
The food was really really good from the beginning to the end. Pork belly sliders were amazing. Scallops and lamb were really good as well. Service was ok, overall a pretty good experience.
Friendly and attentive staff. Good food.
I had wonderful time celebrating my birthday here! My party was a group of 10 and the service was impeccable. The cocktails were great and everyone in my group had a great time.
Menu items were very limited and place is very noisy. Good for business travelers not so much for tourists or get togethers with friends. It does not have the ambiance of the previous restaurant.
Lively bar atmosphere with very good food.
Waited over 15 minutes for anyone to show up at the table. Was not busy- just poorly managed.
Outstanding burger and fries -- would definitely return.
It was a birthday lunch, and the Edgar Bar brought the birthday lady a surprise dessert that was small seeming until she and the rest of us dug into thick chocolate heaven, plus a strawberry as a nod to our five fruits and vegetables a day. Marvelous unhurried service. Just what you would expect at the Mayflower.
Service and food here were great. The only disappointment was that we may have been dining during a shift change, because we were rushed through our meal and checking out. I took half my sandwich to go because I felt so pressured to leave. The meal started well, but I did not feel like I could have a relaxed experience.
I was meeting a friend who was staying at the hotel for a conference; Edgar's was a great choice for lunch (very nice, wonderful salmon), but if you are driving there (which I realize, most people don't ...) the PARKING is your main issue. I made a creative payment deal with the bellhop to avoid a $34 charge to park there for lunch for 1.5 hours.
Great service and environment
Beautiful surroundings and good food here.
We were seated at a table by the window. The ambiance was lacking. It would be nice if they had lights on the candles and maybe some drapery by the windows. Just a very cold setting.
We only went there because it was close to DC Improv. The food however was very nice and service was good
We were staying at the Mayflower Hotel so ate at their restaurant twice during the visit - on a Friday evening and on an early Sunday afternoon. In both cases the food was fine and the service pretty indifferent. Friday evening happy hour crowd was vibrant and pretty loud. Sunday afternoon, the atmosphere was more laid back and relaxed.
The menu has very few options for those with dietary restrictions. My wife has a seafood allergy and cannot eat many of the dishes on the menu. Likewise a vegan or vegetarian diner will have sparse options. She did like the ravioli dish she had for one meal.
The salad I ordered on Sunday, they brought me the wrong one. I asked for a cobb with no bleu cheese and no tomatoes. What they brought me was basically a salad with grilled chicken I didn’t ask for, and some shavings of cheese like you might find on a Caesar salad. The second time they brought it back, it looked like the same bowl but they had just added some items to it - hard boiled egg, etc. still had the chicken it shouldn’t have had. Now it had tomatoes. Still don’t think it had bacon. They brought me the ranch dressing with the first salad, took it away, then didn’t bring me any dressing for the second. I asked for some ranch dressing when they came back to check, what they brought me might’ve been ranch, but it was chunkier than I expect ranch to be - more like bleu cheese. I didn’t feel like dealing with it, so I picked at it a bit, but was unimpressed. Kinda ruined my appetite dealing with an uncertain dressing that was either bleu cheese or spoiled ranch with chunks in it. In any case, I expect better from the fine dining restaurant attached to a high-end hotel in a major city. We’re going back in a few months for another visit and I expect we’ll find other dining options.
My date and I had dinner there before enjoying a lecture at the National Geographic Society. I had clam chowder and Cobb salad- both excellent, perhaps the best salad I've ever had. I got two more meals from the left-overs. My date just had the salad since she's vegan. She would have liked a soup, but those offered had seafood or chicken. She did not complain however, and was pleased with what she had. I would recommend Edgar Bar & Kitchen to anyone, and hope to dine there again soon.
Food and service were superb!
Good place for a business breakfast or lunch. Attentive service, quiet, good coffee and decent food.
Located in The Mayflower Hotel, Edgar's is a nice surprise. The menu is not extensive but has very good selections. We had the crab cakes and the seafood risotto - both were excellent. The apple galette for dessert was also excellent. The dining area is well separated from the bar, snd therefore has a very pleasant atmosphere. Pricing reasonable. Recommended.
Best turkey club in the city. Fries are also crispy and delicious
Best turkey club I've had in a long time. Burger was cooked perfectly, delicious crispy fries. Everything was great. Sometimes service at this restaurant is spotty, but our waiter was very attentive.
The service was so bad I don't know where to start. There were only 2 other tables occupied on Saturday night at 8. No one noticed us until a Barback went looking for the server. Ignored once we ordered. To get water we had to go get the pitcher from serving cart in the other room and no one noticed it on our table. Couldn't find a manager until the next morning. Food was ok. We had salads and cheese tray and 1 glass of wine each ($75). I struggled with leaving a tip because it really was a server issue but gave in. I thought that the reviews were skewed but they're not. A shame because this could be a real gem inside the mayflower.
Crab cakes were delicious. All crab. Good taste. Clam chowder was a hit.
Very strange. Another party and I waited at the host stand for over ten minutes without a hint of anyone who might seat us. We finally sat ourselves, which seemed to confuse the waiter. At the end of the meal, asked for the check five times before it was brought to us.
We had dinner here our first night in Washington as we stayed in the Mayflower hotel. We had the calamari to start which was delicious and a very generous portion. We ordered the veal, chicken, and bass. While the flavour of the bass was good, both my mother in law and I ordered it and both pieces were very dry and over cooked. Would still recommend to others as we had an enjoyable experience.
Asked for cheeseburger and received a cheese plate....meal was fine once it was delivered.
Worse flatbread in a long time. Very undercooked. Made up for it on seafood by overlooking the shrimp and scallops. Wife's fish was cooked properly. Server was very friendly.
4 more nights this trip in DC and and definitely won't eat here again for dinner
Requested to be seated at a quiet location for a business meeting a day before the lunch. When we got there the place was empty except for one table where people were drinking and talking out loud. Of course, we were seated right next to this table. Barvo Edgar!
Good but not innovative food, service lacking despite the place being pretty empty on a lunchtime Friday. Nothing special but would go back
Great food and waiter service, the reception service is a little lacking.
Quick, very professional service and excellent food. We had one hour for a quick lunch and business meeting. It was the perfect experience.
The food is always always reliable and the service is always friendly.
Located in an historic hotel on Connecticut Avenue, the menu was fairly standard breakfast fare, the service was quite good, and the decor was what might be expected in upscale historic hotel.
Just ok Food options were not creative. Our wait staff seemed bored
The hostess had a bit of difficulty finding our reservation. She was not very welcoming. We were seated at a table that wobbled from side to side. No wine list was provided, so we borrowed one from a nearby table. Service was acceptable, but the place was very noisy, so much so that conversing was a bit of a challenge.
We had wine, a cheese plate, and a crab cake appetizer. Food was good.
great food. Servers were very nice and accomodating
Very disappointed in the Sunday breakfast.
Enjoyed lunch the previous day; but breakfast preparation was lacking and not very delectable.
Recommend for lunch or dinner....... much better breakfast can be found elsewhere.
One of my fave places in DC especially for breakfast, a la carte not buffet.
Food was great, good choices for all diets, upbeat & great ambiance
