Since I am of German descent, I always go back to the Edelweiss the capture the feeling of my families Homeland. It does a great job because of good people great food and good entertainment.
I hadn't been here in a long time so we went on a whim. It did not disappoint! Live music including accordion (!) which we really enjoyed. great food, it was the "Asparagus Festival" which my husband loves. He loved the asparagus soup, loved the asparagus/hollandaise schnitzel. I got the port schnitzel w/ sour kraut and german potato salad. All delicious! plus they were walking around with free samples of Lagunitas watermelon beer, which we subsequently ordered after tasting. All over great evening!
Wanted authentic German food in NW suburbs of Chicago with some old world atmosphere. Loved it
The experience was awesome. The pretzel was a delightful and the experience was awesome .I highly recommend this restaurant.
Edelweiss is our “go to” for Mother’s Day for several years now. Particularly good for authentic German food, many exciting seasonal and special menu items.
great place great people very good food and drinks
Fantastic German food, great ambiance, and friendly service! They are attentive but not overbearing. Always a wonderful time!
Dinner was an early Mother’s Day meal .
Service was slow. Food was fair.
Classic German-American fare served in a comfortable albeit "cheesy" surroundings. Service was great -- people are exceedingly nice. And food is well prepared, though not flashy or trendy. Good ol' German food in a restaurant that takes you back to a different era for Germans living in Chicago. Enjoyed it!
So very authentic. If it’s authentic German you’re looking for it should get five stars.
After missing my favorite all time German restaurant Mirabeks we decided to try edilweis. Both my mom and I were dreaming of a great big plate of weiner schnitzel. This wasn’t up to snuff. It looked like it was deep fried instead of pan fried and ice had to ask for gravy. The red cabbage and spatele weren’t very tasty either. Had an odd taste to them. My son had the leftovers and didn’t like them either. It’s too bad I really enjoined the ambiance.
We found the Edelweiss just 2.5 miles from our meeting location. From the ease of making a reservation via Open Table to the goodbyes from everyone as we left, it was a great choice. The service was excellent; the food was outstanding. Our team meets quarterly in Chicago and we will definitely make a return visit to the Edelweiss!
We were there for a birthday celebration and like usual the food and the service was amazing. They made my daughter feel special on her birthday and brought out a dessert with a sparkler which she immediately snap chatted!! Thank you overall for a great meal and making her day perfect but especially Dawn who had every detail including balloons!! I literally can’t say enough but can’t wait to go back.
Food was delicious our server was fantastic all around great service from everyone. Looking forward to going back soon.
Great service and great food at a great well-renowned German restaurant!
Went for Easter dinner. Food was good.
Awesome food and atmosphere! Service was excellent.
Authentic German food and atmosphere. Wonderful food, true German recipes, live music on the weekend. Service is great, casual. Free off street parking, outside beer garden, draft German beers, slot machines, and lots of FUN..
Edelweiss is a really good German food place. Went with some great friends and we all enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was food as always.
The staff was excellent! Owner came to our table to make sure everything was okay. I had the duck which was okay but had better. The soup and sides were delicious and my other guests were happy with there main dishes. Ashley was so sweet and personable. Overall, great experience. Will go back but I’ll try another main dish.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Edelweiss. Great food. Great service. Perfect ambiance.
The atmosphere is the best. You really feel so welcome by everyone from the hostess to the waiter to the owner. We have only been there twice but we're treated like family. And of course the food is great. amazing portions. And you can't go wrong with their beer choices.
Chicken schnitzel was great! Other good dishes include shwienbrauten, and rouladen.
It was great spot to meet for a birthday lunch and did not disappoint. There’s plenty of parking, a big positive in the City. Service was excellent and the food was great. Our table went completely quiet when the food was served as we all were enjoying it. The soup was very tasty and the different schnitzels people had were done well. The spaetzle and red cabbage were a terrific taste and texture combination. The restaurant had put balloons on the table ahead of time and, after the meal, brought warm chocolate cake with ice cream to the birthday boy with forks for all of us.
I highly recommend Edelweiss. We will be back!
Very nice German restaurant, particularly what with so many in the Chicago area having closed in recent years. Good food, friendly people- what's not to like.
Our server was Marion and she was rude and had a bad attitude. Any question you asked her it seemed like you were bothering her. Food was good but the rude service makes you not want to come here. Marion needs a attitude adjustment.
We have been going to Edelweiss for years...since I was a little girl. And we bring our kids here now. Wonderful German food and often good solid German music. The house manager is terrific and she really cares to make everyone have a great dining experience. Many of the wait staff have been there for a number of years so they are solid with the service. LOVE this great longtime establishment on the far NW side/Norridge!
I am extremely disappointed in our reservation at Edelweiss. I am not sure if it was Open Tables mistake or the restaurant. I had a reservation for a special occasion on Friday, Feb 9th. I received an e-mail confirmation as well as text notifications reminding me of the reservation. When we arrived, the restaurant was CLOSED. Closed! I received no communication of this closure. This ruined my night and special occasion. Ended up at Millers Restaurant that was near by. They took us right away and was the best service ever! Not sure if I would recommend using Open Table or visiting this restaurant again.
Authentic German food and atmosphere. It’s one of a kind! They truly treat you like family. It’s a warm and fun experience!
Food tasted reheated.
Very good authentic German food!!... The ambiance of this place makes you feel like you are in a German village .. Service is good with a nice list of alcohol.
Looking for an authentic old school German restaurant? They are that, but with a slightly upscale touch to the food. Service was good, seating comfortable, and food delicious. The desserts seemed like they were prepared by a pastry chef rather than just scooped or cut out of a store bought container. Would like to come back and experience dinner with live music on a weekend.
Excellent service and food! Look forward to visiting again soon
Love Edelweiss for our holiday family dinner. Decorations are lovely. Great Service but to be honest the food was just OK. I think I remember the food being better. I had the Chicken Kiev and so did my Daughter in Law. It was dry and tough. I won't order it again, not for $18.00 per plate. The soup was good and they always put bread on the table.
My wife and I had a nice dinner at Edelweiss! We enjoyed all beautiful Christmas decorations. Our meal was great and the server and hostess were very attentive. If you’re looking for a nice German meal with atmosphere this is the place!
Outstanding all the way around. The service is incredible!
The wife and I enjoyed the good German food, beer and wine. We had a friendly waitress that we could chat with because the early evening hour meant the place was not terribly busy. We don’t live in the neighborhood and had to drive 45 minutes to get to the restaurant, but it was worth it.
