Edelweiss German-American Restaurant is one of Chicago’s favorite German restaurants. It has been a family-owned dining destination for over 30 years.

The menu features an impressive array of traditional, well-crafted German specialties along with classics like the American steak, chicken and seafood dishes. A gluten free menu and kids menu are also available. We offer 16 beers on tap as well as a variety of craft and international beers, wine and schnapps. Our bar area is an excellent venue to watch sports and play the slot machines while enjoying our daily bar and menu specials.

First time visit. Food was fair; potatoes and salad, as well as red cabbage very good. Entree was dry and lacked flavor. Pretzel appetizer was initially warm and good, but dried out quickly; most likely from reheating in microwave. Music was local German entertainment but too loud and too long

Great food and large portions. Service is great too. Love the live music. Not many restaurants like this one left in the Chicago area. Go with friends and family, be ready to eat, drink, sing and dance.

If you like German food, this is the place. Nice ambiance. I had the Friday fish fry. The fish was good, salad was fresh and cold. Friends had the mushroom soup and really liked it. The variety of sausages was good.

We absolutely love this place. Three months ago we came for a birthday and now we make it a monthly tradition. The food is great, the service is fantastic, and on weekends there is German music. Always a good time.

SLOW, SLOW, SLOW. They told us their sous chef left about a week earlier, they told us the kitchen was very busy and hectic (restaurant wasn’t very crowded). Tried to placate us with a free dessert for out patience. A simple, nothing special meal took more than 2 1/2 hours. We even waited 20 minutes for the check to come when we were finished.

My husband and I love Edelweiss. We don’t live in the neighborhood but we make it a point to visit at least once every year. The food is “comfort food” at its best. The service is relaxing and friendly. Nobody rushes you. Great value for the prices/portions. Some might think the German live entertainment is “corny” but we feel it contributes to the overall feel-good experience!

One of the few German restaurants in Chicago. Food was very disappointing from bread basket, which they charged extra for, to the schnitzel and spetzel, both of which were mediocre. Will not return.

Food is always ok but sometimes it's really good. Unfortunately today it was just ok. Liver dumpling soup could have been hotter and should have had more broth. Wiener schnitzel was too thick and somewhat tough. Portions were generous. Heat was erratic but mainly cold.

The food is excellent and the service is great! We were there a bit earlier in the evening on a Sunday, so not a lot of people yet. There was live music and it added a nice touch to the evening... not too loud. The portion sizes of each of our meals was ample which was wonderful because it warmed up very well for lunch the next day.

Beer was warm for both of us. However my beer glass was still warm and was apparently just taken out of the dishwasher. Pretzel was microwaved, but still cold as if was brought out of the fridge. The server never asked how things were. We didn't complain, however here we are now. The dessert was good.

We love this place. Unfortunately, the service during our last visit was poor. We waited a long time to be acknowledged at our table, our order was wrong, and our salads came out with our meal. The music and the food were good, just bad service.
