Eddie V's - La Jolla Ratings and Reviews
We were there to celebrate a birthday it was absolutely wonderful. The Ambiance was great, our server Rachel was phenomenal, the hostesses were great, the food was beautifully presented, it was delicious, we had great wine and it was a truly enjoyable evening !
Excellent restaurant. Great location...amazing views. The service was exceptional. They called me two days prior to confirm reservation and find out my "special occasion" (it was our 22nd anniversary). The staff acknowledged our anniversary a number of times throughout the visit.
Every table has a great view and the service ism perfect. Attentive but not cloying, helpful , knowledgeable. We have avoided this spot, thinking it was just another restaurant in a chain, but the combination of the food and ambiance will bring us back.
The only thing that gets an A- is the rice side dish that comes with lobster tacos and the grilled shrimp Oreganata. Maybe because I make this often at home, it just was not worth the calories...The shrimp and crab salad was excellent, too.
We went to the Eddie Vs near Seaport Villege last year and were quite disappointed, however we went to the La Jolla Eddie Vs and had a very great experience! The food was outstanding as was the service. The experience far exceeded our expectations. Will do it again, but not the downtown location.
Just an overall outstanding restaurant from the service to the food. We've eaten at a lot of fine dining restaurants, but this one stood out to me the most. At one point stating "this might be the best meal I've ever had". I was a little worried it was going to be more of a seafood restaurant, which my husband doesn't care for, but no they really key in on the steak selections. We will definitely return to La Jolla just to eat at this restaurant again.
I am hospitality professional and dine out often. This experience from warm welcome the moment we walked in to the genuine thank you s when we left, was superb in every way. The service was impeccable, D, our server was amazing! The food was insanely delicious and meticulously prepared. It was my first time dining with Eddie V’s and I can’t stop talking about how awesome it truly was. Kudos to the entire staff! 2 managers touched the table during our experience and it wasn’t forced, they were genuine and gave the experience a personal touch. You have made regulars out of us! Thank you for a fabulous evening!
I am a frequent diner at Eddie's in San Diego and Houston and have hosted large events at both places. A+ service, food, etc. We made reservations for four and got a table was at the foot of the bar so we heard the martini shaking every other minute. The table was terrible as it was clearly not made for four adults. The place was empty and when I told the manager and person seating that this was unacceptable, I was told that all the other tables were reserved. No kidding? And we were not? When we left, there were still empty tables that had four chairs. Didn't matter. No one cared. I have never had such blatant disinterest at such an expensive restaurant. Ever. Again, I am a huge Eddie V's fan and highly recommend their other locations. I would avoid La Jolla. They could care less. Terrible management and problem solvers.
Requested a window table. Usually one is reserved for a reservation but they were all given to walk ins and the hostess was a snotty person who’s attitude was unlike any other we’ve experienced at this restaurant.
Stuck in a tiny booth table with 4 people. Not good this time.
Max, our server, couldn't have been finer. A true pro. Our issues with the place were three:
1) Swordfish - perfectly prepared, fabulous flavor - the 'steak'. although thick and meaty, was only slightly larger than the lemon half that came with it. TEENY PORTION. Perfectly prepared, smallest swordfish steak I've ever been served.
2) Alaska King Crab legs - merely a collection of end pieces... seriously, WTF? Again, tasty, and prepared well, but we expected hang off the end of the plate legs... not a pile of assorted end pieces. Really sad.
3) A party of 6 was seated next to us on the terrace.... with a giant, HUGE, furry (albeit well behaved) Tibetan Mastiff. Yes. A lion dog... in a restaurant, on the floor next to me. Again, WTF???
This was a very special night for us, and apart from Max, this evening would have been a terrible disappointment. Our server saved the evening for us with is cheery attitude and attentive service.
The Oysters were excellent. Everything these guys had to prepare (swordfish and crab legs) were not worthy of a restaurant such as this. Won't be back, sadly. La Jolla has many other places we can dine.
My wife and I went to Eddies V’s for our anniversary and it was great. When we got to to table there were rose peddles on the table and a personalized card waiting for us. The restaurant did a fantastic job honoring my request for a seat by the window but the view anywhere would be just as nice. The food was amazing and well worth the price. I had the bone in ribeye and it was on of the best steaks I had ever had. My wife had the scallops which sometimes could be hit or miss, but the chef definitely hit the mark, it was perfectly seared and had so much flavor without being too soft and watery. Finally, the service was phenomenal! If I could give 6 stars I would. Our waiter provided the absolute right attentiveness a and was very charismatic and made our experience exceptionally delightful. Overall I would recommend to anyone how likes steak and seafood, for any occasion, you will not be disappointed.
While our overall visit ( 7 diners) was 'good', there were "issues" : we too-often heard the word
"No" when requesting dietary considerations ( e.g. keeping egg out of the tuna tartare; requesting a baked potato since other choices had allergens) . . .we were quite frustrated, ready to leave; BUT . . . they 'redeemed' themselves, ( mgr and chef came to the table) and it was a good evening. The wine steward was pushy, but . . . .
This was our fourth visit to Eddie V. We live out of state and always make it a point to dine there. We were looking forward to treating our son and his fiancé to a celebration dinner for their recent engagement. On making the reservation , and again when we checked in, I reminded the hostess of the occasion.
We sat at the bar while waiting for our son and ordered a bottle of wine. The bartender was welcoming and friendly. We were really looking forward to a great evening.
We requested a table with a view. We did get a window table but one chair literally butted up against a support post . After sitting uncomfortably for a few minutes, we asked our waiter to help reposition the table for more comfortable seating.
At no point during our dinner did our server ask or remark on the purpose of our visit. We frequent many fine restaurants, and have become used to their attention to detail. If a restaurant is going to ask you why you are visiting, then follow through with a special welcome or gesture. Very disappointing experience.
This place was amazing! I went for my birthday, they sat us right next to the window over looking the shore, the server we had was knowledgeable and kind but not annoying. I don’t like giving out a perfect score but this place forced me to. I had the bass and that was a good not great choice but let that tell you how great the 1st, 2nd course and the shared appativers were.
We got there early and went upstairs to the bar next to the live music before being seated. My wife and I can’t wait to go back a try more of the menu and just relax next to the water.
I came here to celebrate a birthday and it was wonderful. The host and waiter greeted us with a welcoming happy birthday. We were seated outside on the Terrance but we didn’t get to see the view as well because it was dark. We thought they would’ve sat us by the fire because it was cold but it’s okay. The manager came out to say happy birthday and personally greeted us. Over this place is great for family dinning.
