Eddie V's - La Jolla Ratings and Reviews
Table located in bar area with people jostling as the passed. Table set for 4 vs 5 people. 4 people almost finished dinner before 5th served. Side dishes forgotten or too late. Asked for heaters to be lowered and told all or nothing. Altogether a bad experience for a special occasion.
Have wanted to go to Eddie V’s for many years in Arizona and finally took the chance last night in La Jolla. We were not disappointed. Lobster bisque appetiser was incredible and the Parmesan crusted sole was fabulous. I could not fault the food at all. Yes it is quite expensive but in line with every other up scale restaurant in California and the best we ate in in our 2 week Californian vacation
My wife and I were in La Jolla for a short "get away" weekend and found this restaurant. The ambience was great for a romantic dinner, the service was great (can't remember our servers name) and the food was excellent. We were seated along the windows overlooking La Jolla cove and although it was a bit difficult to see due to the darkness, it was still nice to get that table at 7pm on a Sat nite.
After dinner we headed upstairs t listen to the Jazz musicians playing and sat outside as the weather was very mild.
Would go back anytime we are back in the area.
We dine @ Eddie V's 2-3 time s a month and are usually satisfied with food and service.
This time around, the kitchen was way behind for some reason. Unusually long waits when the place was not even half full and sub-par food (by EV's standards) didn't make for a very good dining experience. Our Lobster Bisque was lukewarm at best, fries were not hot and my beef medallion with shrimp scampi was drenched in a lukewarm sauce! Our server (a new transplant from NJ) was very pleasant and attentive though. The problem must lie with the kitchen staff/management.
We brought our son and daughter in law for her birthday as a special treat. They were really impressed and grateful that they didn't have to pay the check. We had a really nice time. A bit noisy, but still a great time. we were surprised how busy it was for a Tuesday evening.
Whenever we stay in La Jolla, we dine at Eddie V’s and it is our favorite of all the restaurants! The food is really great and the ocean view and restaurant provide a great ambiance. They have a nice bar downstairs with live music. Two of us had the swordfish special of the night and it was fantastic. We ordered a side of crab fried rice and this is one of the tastiest dishes ever! You must order this to share! The crab stuffed shrimp is also delicious! Be sure to make reservations and ask for a ocean view window table! Very fresh and delicious seafood! They also have great steaks but we usually order seafood. Can’t wait till our next visit!
We were there on the 11th for our anniversary . Table was great, service started out well, unfortunately when our meal came, our waiter Eric, forgot the lobster tail that accompanied the steak, and the steak was ordered med. well ,but came out medium rare. So while I ate, my partner waited for the lobster tail and had to send the steak back. Eric did bring us some crab fried rice on the house, to make up for it, which was nice, but the overall service from this point pour was very slow. Not up to your usual standards unfortunately.
Everything was exquisite. You paid for it. But it was wonderful. The drinks were tasty and original, the appetizers and salads amazing and the entrees cooked to perfection. The manager came over. Made sure everything was perfect. Talked to us for quite a while. I'm terrible with names. But the La Jolla manager was very friendly and professional. Born in Texas. No wonder.
Went here as a birthday and the hostess and waitress both said happy birthday which was a nice touch. The service was impeccable and I was blown away. The food was delicious and so fresh. The service and the view was amazing. If you have an anniversary or speacial date this place is a must. The view will take your breath away. Definitely will do back one day.
