Eddie V's - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
We had a fabulous time! From the excellent music selections from the jazz pianist to the pampering from the bartender, we had a so much fun celebrating my birthday. Even when we arrived at our table for dinner, they had a suprises waiting and coming for the birthday queen. Loved it!
Our first visit to Eddie V's will become a tradition. We choose special restaurants for our annual trip to Chicago and this is exactly what we're after. An interesting menu that makes it hard to choose and then you're happy with the choices you made. My husband and I shared the calamari kung pao style appetizer as well as the lobster tacos. Both were outstanding, with unexpected complexity. My husband also really enjoyed the crab and corn chowder. His main course was the Alaskan halibut which was so good he didn't have room for more than a bite of my Ahi tuna which was fabulous. And the portions were substantial—they didn't leave room for more than one piece of the wonderful bread that was a fine accompaniment to the wine during my perusal of the menu. The wine list looks good; the beer choices are limited but have an adequate range. The staff were professional, attentive, and friendly. The only small demerit was that the appetizers and soup came out at the same time, making it difficult to eat everything at peak temperature.
My overall rating is largely impacted by how we were treated at the restaurant by the front desk staff/seating. I booked this reservation more than a month in advance requesting a booth as it was a special occasion. We arrived 10 minutes early for the reservation and were told it would be 20 minutes to be seated for our 8:15 pm reservation; not bad. Except, we had to wait 45 minutes and were then seated in a tiny booth by the host station; while moments later another couple were seated at a spacious booth for drinks/appetizers only. The waiter was good, although clearly had too many tables to take our drink/appetizer order for another 20 minutes. Waiter was knowledgeable and his recommendations were spot on, lobster tacos were excellent, my main entry sprimp was just ok but the crab fried rice side was excellent. Not sure that I would go back--next time we'll wait an extra week and go to Joe's seafood which is less than a block away. Disappointing food, lack luster service but, nice live music in the bar.
When I was asked if there was a Special Occasion being celebrated, I told them half jokingly that it was our 8 Month Wedding anniversary (It was). Well - to our surprise they ran with it and treated as if it was our 50th Year anniversary! The Bartender - Matt, introduced himself and asked what brought us in, made us a unique and outstanding "Cedar Plank Smoked Old Fashioned" - Delish!
Sam, our waiter was attentive and patient, explained everything on the menu we asked about, resulting in two Entrees that we loved!
Two different Managers visited our table, introduced themselves and asked how everything was going.
Then to top off our Evening - Sam brought out a Bananas Foster dessert and lit it at our table allowing us to take photos throughout the process. It turned out to be complimentary!
We were absolutely floored by the superior service and how we were made to feel at home!
Probably the best dining experience we have ever had!
I chose Eddie Vs because it is on the list of best seafood in Chicago. I was personally dissapointed with my meal, I ordered jumbo shrimp with crab meat and while the service and presentation was great the food itself was dry. My fiance ordered the Alaskan king crab and enjoyed his meal though we were both dissapointed in portion size. 75/person for soup, side, meal isnt too bad but we would have liked a little more food. The au gratin cheddar potatos were very good as well as the crab fried rice. We would go back I would just order a different main course.
Our server Nicholas H Was amazing. His knowledge for the menu and selections was fantastic. He was super energetic and fun to deal with. My fiance and I had the tuna tartar and crab cake as an appetizer. I've had plenty of crab cakes in my life but this one is by far the BEST ever.
