Eddie V's - Arboretum Ratings and Reviews
We love Eddie V's--think it's one of the best for seafood in Austin. We especially like the roasted sea bass. our service was exceptional this time, but it's always good. We don't have to wait to get noticed and food is timed just right. We will return again and again.
Went for my wife's 30th birthday. They smartly never mentioned her age, but wished her a happy birthday multiple times (different people). Food was AMAZING and server wasn't condescending which was greatly appreciated as we don't often eat at such expensive places. Wonderful evening.
A truly magnificent experience....we have been to the location in Houston several times and were very impressed with the Austin location. We had a party of 10 which can be challenging, but Roger Hernandez and his staff were exemplary. Cannot say enough good things about the total experience. I would highly recommend Eddie V's to anyone living (or visiting) Austin.....
Based on recommendations our party of 8 was prepared for a great dining experience and we were not disappointed. Our waitperson, Mary, was very professional and attentive and greatly added to our party. The wine list was superb and Mary was very helpful to us in our selection. The seafood and steak menu was extensive and varied and the food was excellent. We all were very impressed.
The service was slow and we visited on a Wednesday Night. Our seating time was 6:45, we did not have any service until 7:00 p.m. Our water and tea glassess were constatnly empty and we had to wait for a refill. We had chosen Eddie-V's because of a positive experience previously, but we will search for a new resturant for our special celebrations. The only thing they have going for them is their food is excellent. I expected more for the money, very disappointed.
I had the Surf and Turf with the 22oz Bone-in Ribeye, cooked medium-rare. The steak was cooked perfectly, but the meat was not as flavorful as I was expecting. The crab meat on top of the steak was the only thing that actually had rich flavor, the bacon-wrapped scallop and the shrimp that accompanied the meal was also unimpressive. Even the shrimp didn't have that expected grill flavor (since it was grilled), whatever it was drenched in made it taste like it was soaked in dish water. The two sides we ordered, the crab-fried-rice and truffled mac'n cheese, were also fairly bland (in full disclosure we opted to not have the pepper flakes that normally destroys the flavor of the crab in the rice) but the texture of the mac-n-cheese was nice.
The food was good, but I had heard such rave reviews, that I was a little disappointed. It certainly wasn't among the best restaurants I've ever eaten at. Probably a little over priced for the quality of the food. I could get a steak that good at Ruth's Chris and I could have made the scalloped potatoes myself with just a lot of cheese and butter.
We had a wonderful time, and our reservation requests re table and occasion were honored, though we had to wait a while past our reservation time. The maitre-d made it up to us, however, as he comped our appetizer which we did not expect, but did appreciate. We were a party of four and were treated royally.
We were so surprised to find such a gem. We loved everything about it, but especially the fantastic seafood selections. We celebrated an outstanding wedding anniversary (#43) in grand style. We definitely plan to return, especially with out of town guests! We would rate this resturant our favorite among a huge group of favorites of many large cities we have visited. We are so glad to live here now and have such an outstanding dining experience.
Overall excellent experience. Greeted and sat immediately (we had reservations for our anniversary) and all the staff were aware of this and wished us happy anniversary as well. Jeff was top notch, technically top notch, and great personality. Food was incredible, and the kitchen very accommodating in splitting two entrees in back and even cooking the steak to separate temperatures. We finished with a decadent Godiva chocolate cake with Amy's ice cream... perfect!
We celebrated my husband's book publication at Eddie V's, and we couldn't have picked a better choice. The food was perfect, each course something new to savor. Mary Kay took care of us and made sure that every second of our evening was enjoyable. She had great wine and food suggestions for us, she had "congratulations" painted in chocolate on our dessert plate and she made sure we had a fantastic experience. Our evening was perfect! I look forward to our next visit, which will certainly include the calamari and the oysters! Yummmmm!
