Eddie V's - 5th Street Ratings and Reviews
Restaurant was excellent and poor at the same time. Service at the bar very poor. Waited for 10 minutes just to get a glass of wine. It was not busy- bartender focused only on the regulars and the rest of us were ignored. Service at dinner- outstanding. Waiter was very attentive. Food- crab cakes were awesome! Excellent pick! MEDITERRANEAN BRANZINO awful... dry and overly salty. Worst cooked fish I have ever eaten. Very disappointing. Definitely not worth the money. Shrimp and scallop entrees were good. Macaroni and cheese outstanding. All in all not worth the money for the food that we were served except the crab cakes.
Every time I leave Eddie V’s I tell myself I need to go way more often. This place is one of the most well rounded high end restaurants you can find. They do everything extremely well. Food, service, ambiance, etc. They cover it all. We enjoy sitting in the lounge for dinner. It’s an awesome vibe with tons of energy and often times live music. Love this place.
What can you say it is Eddie V's. This was our first time dinning at the Austin location. We have dined at the Dallas location. We knew what we should expect. This location is in a historic tire shop building. The bar service was great while waiting for our table. The Roasted Sea Bass was delicious. The entire evening was enjoyable.
Bar area was too crowded to get a drink. Took a while to get our drink order once were seated. Calamari appetizer dry. Noise level Low and able to hear conversation easily. Staff put entré leftovers from two different people into one box. However, he did comp us dessert and apologize in addition to bringing out an additional entrée portion to go home to make up for it. Most likely, will not eat here again.
Absolutely wonderful meal and service, as usual. Roasted sea bass was delicious and perfectly cooked. Scallops were richly flavored, sublime with the citrus balancing the richness. Tuna tartare was outstanding. Lobster bisque and crab corn chowder was excellent. Great anniversary evening.
First time at this Eddie V's - previous experiences at Ft Worth Eddie's were wonderful, at this one was delightful! Great food, outstanding service, and the nice "Anniversary touch" of a card signed by staff members. Only negative was the (brief) walk around the block after dinner - neighborhood is a bit grungy and we were hit up by panhandlers...
Every visit to Austin I make sure I dine at least once at Eddie V's. Even though it is billed as a "Seafood Restaurant", we always order steak, and haven't been disappointed yet.
Total w/ tip: $939.46
Big Porterhouse cooked to perfect RARE. Sliced beautifully by the captain. Caviar sampler was delicious. Server was attentive, but not overbearing (left us alone but was near if needed).
Only hiccup was when I asked for wine recommendations. I saw the Justin Cab on the list and asked if there was a chance that a bottle of Isosceles might be hiding somewhere. Server didn't think so, but wanted to help find a wine that would be similar. He said his colleague knew more about the list and would send him over. I told his colleague what I was looking for (Bordeaux/Meritage blend similar to J.I.). He immediately opened the list to the "Reserve" page. Okay, but that sends a message that all you really want to do is sell me an expensive wine. Wine people notice that move and don't appreciate it. We know your job is to sell, but don't be so obvious, especially when you didn't even ask me for a price range to work within - ask for the range and go from there. The next move showed me that this guy lacked both basic wine knowledge and also knowledge of the list. He pointed to a blend called "Veraison" and told me the name meant that there was a "variety of grapes in the blend". Oh jeez. At this point I explained what the term "Veraison" means, and said "I got this". I moved off the "Reserve List" and ordered "Elevage". This is so out of character for a place like Eddie V's. I hope they tighten up their wine training so that patrons aren't being told blatantly made up information to cover lack of knowledge.
One more item - please consider waiving the $10 parking fee if a table spends over a certain amount. I'm thinking close to $1K for a table of 3 would have been enough. Oh well.
We still love this place and will be back again on our next Austin trip.
It’s our 39th wedding anniversary and it was the perfect place for enjoying it. The Managing Partner of Eddie V’s , Ms. Alika O’Brien was just very thoughtful and giving. Bless her heart. The service from Waitress Jessica is just great. Food is very good and ambience is welcoming for the occasion. We left the place with joy and thankfulness. Well done and thank you.
The service was superb! We had a large group, and the staff was very attentive to all of our needs! Very impressed! The restaurant was packed with those celebrating the holidays, and the staff was on top of everything!
Thank you very much for a fantastic evening!
