Eddie V's - 5th Street Ratings and Reviews
I made my reservation about three weeks ago to sit in the big room and again they tried to stick me next to the cabinet in the private room Servers come in that room and get plates and other stuff throughout the whole meal out of that cabinet
Move that friggin cabinet to the back of the restaurant and leave the patrons in peace
Thankfully we asked to move to the big room and did not have to put up with it for the 2nd year in a row
Eric was our server and was attentive, courteous and had a great sense of humor. He didn’t rush us at all and was very helpful with making recommendations.
This was our first visit to Austin and the trip was highlighted by our most positive dining experience at Eddie V’s.
Special shout out to Eric!
Wife’s xx birthday and her choice. We’ve tried many restaurants in Austin and we keep coming back to Eddie V’smiles away and know we can count on V’s. If we’re returning home early, their happy hour menu in the bar can make a great meal, too. We’ve even gotten to the point of asking for Aaron, an exceptionally professional yet congenial waiter.
The raw oysters were very good--a huge compliment coming from a Louisiana girl. Crab cake was sent back twice because it wasn't hot. Chili shrimp were remarkable and we ordered sides that were healthy.
Service started out good but there was a little too much hovering and attempted jokes.
Restaurant is huge and expensive
We were in Austin for a conference and had dinner at three of the 4-$ restaurants in town. This was our favorite. The food and drinks were great and our waiter, Jeffrey, was wonderful. He made great recommendations and kept apologizing for the length of time it took for our dinner to come out. We were having such a good time enjoying the evening that we weren't even bothered by it buy he gave us a delicious dessert on the house. I would definitely recommend!
This was one of the best meals I have had in quite awhile. The service was impeccable. When we expressed our desire to try an appetizer, but feared we would be too full for dessert, our waitress suggested smaller portions and splitting salads. The pepper shrimp was unique and tasty, and our shared apple salad was a perfect in-between dish. The redfish was perfectly prepared with a delicious sauce and the scallops were a scrumptious and filling entree. We shared a bananas foster cake - which was out of this world delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant for a great dinner!
Upon entering the premises, we were met with a vibrant, friendly welcome, more so than another highly-regarded establishment we visited during our time in Austin. Full of brisket, we came in search of Alaskan King Crab legs. Alas, they were fresh out. Eddie V's doesn't deal in frozen seafood, which I certainly appreciate. Still, bit of a downer to learn it wasn't an option on a bustling Thursday night. To their credit, staff did everything it could to make good on the situation, an effort that included a personalized card redeemable for AKC on another visit. We had the heirloom tomato salad (very good), crab and corn chowder (excellent), lobster tacos (just OK), truffle macaroni and cheese (solid) and butter poached lobster mash potatoes (good). After the staff became aware that it was our anniversary, they presented us with a complimentary desert of chocolate lava cake with Amy's ice cream that was outstanding. Also gave us a set of champagne glasses. Great service from start to finish.
Had one of the specials, center cut filet with a spinach flavored butter melting on top, with a south african lobster tail cooked to perfection on top of its shell. Unbelievably good!!! Why my favorite steak house in Austin is Eddie V's the original location.
New favorite place for great seafood! Noise level was very loud and suspect it's because tables are so close together. I'm hoping this was because it was F1 weekend. We'll definitely come back and compare noise level, but if it's always that way, we would probably go elsewhere for special occasions.
Excellent dining experience, as always. We always order the steak and lobster tartare when we dine here - and it continues to be top notch. Other standouts this time around were their cocktails - tried the spicy margarita, dirty devil, and the red dragon. The bananas foster cake was also a hit. Definitely one of our go-to's for a great meal.
Last minute choice after we arrived for ACL. Who would ever think that a seafood restaurant in TX would outshine many in New York City? All four of our meals were tremendous. Excellent oysters from New England. Highly professional staff. Fun and energetic bar scene.
