Eddie Merlot's - Pittsburgh Ratings and Reviews
Going here for restaurant week was a mistake. Our server treated us like second class citizens once we asked for the restaurant week menu. Sides did not come out with meals. Drinks were delayed. Water glasses remained empty. Filet was excellent but that was the only positive thing about this experience.
The food and service were fine - although sometimes I felt the service was a little slow. For example, our waiter told us they were baking a fresh batch of bread (which is really yummy) and that it would be out soon. We sat and watched other tables get their bread before us. We finally got it and then maybe 30 seconds later we got our meals.
I gave the ambience only 3 stars because, while the main area of the restaurant has unique and interesting decor which I find lovely, we were seated in a room that is used for private parties. There was not much in the way of decor there - but the whole room was floor to ceiling windows looking out to the city which could be nice. Unfortunately we were seated at the back corner of this room nowhere near a window and tucked in the corner behind us was a busser station where they kept the water pitchers. It was a little like being next to the kitchen doors.
I brought my husband here for his birthday. I didn’t know if they provided a complimentary dessert or not. The waiter brought us dessert menus then returned shortly after with a creme brûlée with a candle in it. Problem was my husband does not like it. So he ordered a dish of ice cream instead and I ate the creme brûlée which was good but not the dessert I would have ordered for myself. Again it seemed to take a long time to get the ice cream. When it did arrive it was soft and a bit melted - by maybe it was supposed to be that way?
Part of going out to dinner at a place like this is the atmosphere. Not being seated in the main dining room was a huge disappointment to me. I had been there before for lunch but my husband had never been and to be placed in the room that sort of amounted to being in a hotel banquet room was upsetting because I was hoping the evening would be a special one and this room really put a damper on that for me.
Service was beyond slow. Too many different servers. Brought salads before other appetizers. One with no dressing...I used my hands to see if salad was dressed. Asked server about salad and was told served to wrong table. Server removed salads and served to table behind us...tried to get her attention to say I had touched salad to no avail...discusting. Also wrong entree served and replaced but still on bill. Wonderful food and horrible service.
I dined with my sister. Gordon was our waiter. He actually turned his back on my sister and addressed me throughout the meal. When he asked how she would like her meat prepared, he glanced at her...but verified it with me. He never acknowledged her presence. This was EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE!
Regarding the food...I ordered a medium rare steak. It was as suggested in the middle, but the outside was so charred, it was actually dry. Gordon told us these are the best steaks in Pittsburgh-I could get (and have had) better at Golden Corral!
We had been to Capital Grille earlier in the week. Their food is FANTASTIC!
We did not enjoy anything about this restaurant (except the decor...but none of the employees knew the interior designer).
We will NEVER return and I cannot and will not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The place is beautiful. The drinks were top notch. The service was excellent. I had the trio of filet mignon medallions, which was amazing. It was tender enough to melt in your mouth. However, I found the crab bisque to be a little bland and the carrot cake to be a little dry.
The food was delicious. We had the salmon which was perfectly prepared and the three medallions also delicious. We went for the restaurant week menu otherwise we would not have gone here because the prices are steep and you have to purchase sides on the plate separately. A filet mignon is only a piece of meat on a plate.
While the food was delicious, the service left something to be desired. We waited a long time to get dessert which was just two slices of cake. And then we waited even longer to get the bill. We watched our waiter bring our bill out with a table he needed to prepare something for the next table. And we had to watch him do that before he would give us the check. Not nice.
My wife and I dined there this past week to celebrate our anniversary. From start to finish we could not have asked for a better experience. The food was beyond amazing and the service was incredible. Our server Admundo told us all about the menu and gave great recommendations. He took exceptional care of us and made the evening one to remember.
The food was cooked to perfection except the appetizer, but our server Armindo noticed because we didn’t even say anything. His service made the experience over the top and I would definitely go back. The steak was cooked perfectly and my lobster corn soup was excellent. I would recommend if your looking for a nice steak house in the downtown area.
Very enjoyable evening. Service was excellent. Having been to many different locations for restaurant week, was surprised that we needed to purchase the sides for our meat (potatoes, vegetables, would rather have these included and purchase our desert if we desired.
Food, ambience and service was great. The price was a little disingenuous since on the website it gives $35.18 for restaurant week menu, however there were no sides included and those were extra. Had not experienced that at other participating restaurants. Other than that it was great.
the restaurant is downtown Pittsburgh but it has convenient parking which is free with dinner.
The staff was extremely well-versed in pleasing the guests from the time we entered to the time we left
The steaks were exceptional and cooked precisely to order .
My son and I visited Eddie Merlot's for the first time. We will definitely be back. We sat at the bar and chatted it up with Tiffany and the gang - great banter; great cocktails and great menu information. Our steaks ( small filet Oscar style and the strip) were perfectly prepared and professionally served; the recommended sides Brussels sprouts and hash browns were as recommended and plentiful. The location cannot be beaten and is very walkable if you are staying downtown. Yea to Eddie Merlot's!
This was our first time eating at the restaurant. Our friends who invited us had been there once before & really enjoyed the food & atmosphere. We were impressed with the wine list & menu. I had the Sea Bass & my husband had the Bison Filet Mignon & they were both cooked to perfection. We had Banana Foster for dessert & it was also wonderful. The service was good, a bit slow, but overall experience was great & look forward to going back.
I visited Eddie Merlot on 1/6/18 for my birthday dinner. We were seated in a corner table with a nice view. The food was delicious and the presentation of the food was amazing as well as our server was efficient. Thank you to the staff of Eddie Merlot for making my 35th birthday special! Myself and my friends are already planning our return visit....
My husband and I went for date night, on the recommendation of my parents. Our meal was delicious! The menu items are expensive, but well worth it. I recommend the bone-in filet and the black truffle tater tots. We will definitely be back for a special occasion.
Very lovely dinner. Our waiter, Armandino, was simply Outstanding! Our first
visit....he was remarkarkable with suggestions and explaining the culture of the restaurant.
We enjoyed the speciality smoked bacon shrimp appetizer....both of us had fillets(cooked to perfection) and lobster garlic mash potatoes. Exceptional. Will definitely be a repeat customer.
Overpriced for no ambiance, no music ,average food tastes, small portions, no respect to women, food delivered way too fast- like they want to get rid of you, noisy drunks at bar and what is totally unbelievable- they let in and served stinky, underbridge living bumps???
Eddie Merlot's is becoming one of our favorite Pittsburgh restaurants. This was our third visit and have enjoyed it more each time. Food and service are excellent. Service staff knowledgeable and not stuffy. We had a great time with our server las visit. Large bar and lots of windows to view the city. great bar for appetizers and cocktails.
We dined at Eddie Merlot's on New Year's Eve. We had never been there before. There was a good crowd, and we were seated right on time. Our appetizer of Oysters on the Half Shell was good, as were our salads. Our dinner came out before we finished our salads, and we felt rushed. Our entrees were fine, but not excellent. Our server was quite busy with a lot of tables, so we did not get much attention. There was also a large group in the dining room where we were seated and they were loud. We expected better food and a better experience, considering the price point. We might give it another try, but we're not sure.
