Eddie Merlot's - Columbus Ratings and Reviews
We have been to this Merlot’s many times and have always enjoyed good food, good service, and in this era of loud everything, a very pleasant atmosphere. This was however the first time that I was not really satisfied with my entire. I ordered the veal and it was not what I expected. Veal Feancaise is something that I have had elsewhere prepared well - very lightly floured pounded veal breast, sautéed and served in a light lemony sauce. This was heavily breaded, over salted, and with that I could hardly taste the sauce. My wife’s lobster was very well done, though advertised at 20 oz. seemed a little on the light side - certainly not 20 oz. of lobster, though possibly at the frozen state. Having said that, it was as always a very pleasant dining experience and everything else, both food and service was fine. Yes, we will return. No, I will not order the veal, but more likely a steak which the do an outstanding job with.
It was a business dinner with 4 of us. 3 of us ordered the same steak. I ordered mine medium. The other two were ordered medium rare. The waitress distributed the 2 sides we ordered evenly amongst us. When I cut into my steak I realized it was rare, maybe even less then rare. The waitress said it would only take a minute to make it medium. About 10 minutes later the steak came out but with no sides. I asked and the said that new sides would be brought to the table. They were but when everyone had already finished eating. So, I ate an OK steamed with no sides. The manger gave us free coffee and one desert to split. Never going back.
Just great for Dottie's birthday dinner. The double chocolate cake I put down as a special treat for desert was.... WOW!!!! She had the filet which was prepared to perfection along with the asparagus side... and then the desert... and, of course, the wine, Merlot Decoy, with the Duck on the bottle.... made the meal. Noise level is just a little too high, but as the evening aged, our reservation was at eight, the crowd dispersed and it was O.K. My meal with the double pork chops called for a box to carry home with a couple glasses of wine left in the bottle which we will enjoy some evening this week.
Server, Jason, was very professional but slow. He forgot our bread, seemed to take forever to take our order or bring us our check.
I ordered the special of the day, Chilean Sea Bass Oscar style. Way to much tarragon in the sauce that overpowered the whole meal. I ended up only eating half of it.
The ambiance was fantastic and my guests raves about their food (strip steak, ribeye steak).
This was my second time at the venue and I’ll probably return when I’m in Columbus again but I’ll order a steak.
As is typical from Eddie Merlot's a top notch meal from beginning to end. James, our waiter was friendly, engaged, and attentive. The food was cooked perfectly; my wife's blackened scallops were very good. We tried some new menu items, outstanding crab cake and the scallops. Filet Oscar style was perfect temperature, doneness and beautifully presented. My wife tried the Berry White martini which she thoroughly enjoyed. May be her new favorite martini.
This never disappoints. If you want a steak done right, try Eddie Merlot's.
Only complaint, a very cold AC, great in the summer, but not so much as fall arrives.
Filet mignon potstickers? Yes, please! Everything was excellent. The black truffle tater tots were mind-blowing. Our server was absolutely perfect.
There are restaurants that think there's nothing more to being "upscale" than jacking up prices, but Eddie Merlot's had better service, better food and better ambiance to earn their upscale description. Worth every single penny.
What's not to like? Ok, so after over 100 visits, we're a little biased. But maybe only once have we not enjoyed ourselves at the Columbus store. That was awhile back. We were accompanied on this visit by "foodie" friends from Seattle. We think that going to "Eddie's" was one of the inducements for them to come to Ohio. Service, food, value....great. Excellent waitstaff attention. Scott, the GM came to our table to say hello and they really appreciated meeting him.
