Eddie Merlot's - Bloomfield Hills Ratings and Reviews
Eddie Merlot's was very enjoyable. We sat in the bar area in a nice low top table so we got to have the best of both worlds. The Oyster's Rock was wonderful! The filet was perfect. I wasn't quite prepared for the prices, especially the wine list...beware if you take a date!
We dinned at Eddie Merlot's for my son's birthday having never eaten there before. What a mistake. Two of our 3 orders had problems. The salmon was plated without the spinach on the plate. It was then brought out to me in a gravy boat. My husband wanted his steak cooked medium (pink in the center) and it was dripping blood inside. The server completely agreed and quickly sent it back. I ran out of water twice (it was my beverage) and had to wait quite a while for a refill. The server brought us the dessert menu but then didn't come back for almost 10 minutes to take our order. Both tables next to us also had trouble. I overheard one table say to our server "we thought you abandoned us". The other table waited a long time for their completed bill. They could see the server talking to a table of guests (someone she seemed to know) and got up to flag her down. This is not the type of service expected from a nice steak house. We will never go there again. There are to many other good restaurants to pick from.
The waiter forgot to bring bread. We reminded him twice. Finally, it came after our appetizers. He then brought the wrong salad. The right salad never came. When we got our entrees, we said we didn’t want the salad anymore and he said he’d take it off the bill. He didn’t forget the bill but he forgot to take the salad off. We have been to this restaurant about six times and received good service once. The food is always delicious but they need to improve the waitstaff in a big way.
We had a great time spending New Years Eve here. This was my first visit and I will certainly make this a regular stop. Outstanding wine selection, absolutely beautiful decor and a very nice and professional staff puts Eddie Merlot high on my favorite list.
We were seated at 9pm and were not out until 11:35pm on New Year’s Eve. Yes, it was busy but over 2 1/2 hours is a little ridiculous. We had to rush out to make sure we made it to our midnight plans on time. The server was apologetic and I do t think it was his fault but certainly could have been timed better.
Initial experience was sub par. Hostess took a long while to acknowledge. No smile, looked bored. It was NYE so creating an experience would have been nice. Service was slow which can be expected on NYE but the restaurant was not full at 630. Offered bread but had to ask for it again more than once. My son ordered a combination steak and crab legs. They were pathetic in size for the price. Had to ask for melted butter and the crab was cold before the butter arrived. The steaks were cooked well and seasoned nicely. Overall, not worth the $500 plus spent. I would say average.
Ambiance was nice. Waiter was great. Food was good. BUT, the food runners were inept (forgot my salad and took them 10 minutes to get my melted butter for my lobster tail when it should have come out WITH or BEFORE the meal) and the valet service was clueless to the point where it was like watching a three stooges short.
Was also charged for an extra dish. It was resolved by management, but it took longer than it SHOULD have.
We went for New year's Eve. The service was outstanding. You could really see the staff work together seemlessly. The appetizer was the best part of the meal from taste to presentation. Our steaks however were both extremely wrong. My filet, ordered medium, was served well done. My husbands steak, ordered medium rare, arrived with only a char on the outside. I was brought a new steak cooked to perfection almost immediately however my husband's was cooked further and despite being closer to medium rare, it was more edible but really charred on the outside unfortunately. So for the price, the value was extremely subpar. We were pretty disappointed.
Overall we were underwhelmed by our experience at Eddie Merlot's. The food was okay, not great, and not what we would expect for the expensive menu prices. (wouldn't mind paying those prices if the food were really good!) We were really excited to see "truffle tater tots" as a side dish on the menu - and deeply disappointed when exactly FIVE tater tots arrived. While beautifully presented with a shaving of truffle and cheese on top, they were a real disappointment (tasted okay but not amazing) for the $18 price. Service was quite slow, even though the restaurant was not particularly busy on a Thursday night.
This was a good meal. There were two items that kept this from being a complete 5. First, the bone in tomahawk rib-eye (the $100 one) was done right and was very flavorful. However, these was a line of tough grizzle in it. Second, it was snowing hard, however the valet parking didn't clean the car, or even offer to when i tipped them $20.
We will most likely go back again when we need an upscale meal.
Attended the Christmas Brunch and enjoyed it very much. Outstanding service and ambiance. Had a large variety of excellent dishes for the buffet and an outstanding dessert bar. The Mimosa's and Bloody Mary's were excellent also. We consider this to be a great find and new location for our brunch outings with friends. We will back!!
The food at Eddie's was excellent, as always. From the sweet and spicy shrimp appetizer, to the creme brulee dessert, it was all delicious with a pleasing presentation. Our server, Jonathan, did a fabulous job taking care of us and making us feel welcome, even in the midst of taking care of a big party in the other room. We keep coming back, for special events as well as a casual burger, because the personal service nicely compliments the great food.
They struggle with keeping reservation times, and the hostesses had attitude. Hadn’t been there in quite some time. Took grown children and spouses. They were slammed but no excuse. They brought my son a dirty martini without the olive juice and brought back a shot glass with some olive juice instead of remaking the drink. We politely asked them to remake it. Shouldn’t have to do something like that. Won’t go back. Too many other options.
