This is a hidden find. the waiter said the mgmnt isn't interested in advertising to outside customers which is a huge error on their part. I've eaten there 3 times and each time everything was excellent.
Great place for lunch during the holidays tho the Hyatt's Christmas decorations have turned disappointing.
We selected this restaurant for Thanksgiving Day. They advertised a TG dinner that sounded great. We booked an early dinner, but were told they did not begin serving this meal until 5 PM - which was not clear when we reserved. We ended up having small plates and sandwiches - which were very good, but not what we had planned for.
The hotel had a big party and the restaurant was occupied to accommodate this big party but they still accepted reservation for lunch. When I got there with my boss, they said they had a party even though I saw the place was empty. I told them I had reservation. The person told me that we would seat inside the restaurant but outside the snack bar with a tiny table in the walk way. If they have a big party, they should at least notify people and not to accept reservation.
We were dissapointed that this hotel did not really have a restaurant. This is more of a bar/snack experience. It's in the lobby of the hotel which is pretty spectacular. 17 stories tall with a huge modern sculpture make it a really cool vibe. We had three small plates that I would call tapas type dishes. The food was very nice. The shrimp dish was really good. It was a Sunday evening so there was not a lot of choice in the neighborhood because it's in the financial district.
Eclipse was an excellent venue for a business brunch. We could conduct a quiet conversation and enjoy excellent food. I particularly enjoyed the egg/veggie wraps. Another guest partook of the extensive buffet. Service was good, and the location in the hotel was convenient. It's pretty pricey, however.
I was there after the Women's March in SF and they were totally overwhelmed with the volume of people that evening. That said, the service was as good as it could reasonably have been and the food was very good. The only real problem was the security downstairs who told me the restaurant was "closed" when I told him I had a reservation through OpenTable. He was probably instructed to tell that to everyone so the place didn't get even more overwhelmed, but being lied to doesn't feel great. I went back up to him and showed him the reservation on my phone and he was like, "Ok, take the two escalators up and to the right." o_0
This was our last-minute choice from among the few places open for dinner on a Sunday Christmas Day -- with more than a $$$ prix fixe to choose from. We had a surprisingly (for a large hotel lobby/atrium) private table for two, due to the unique high-back chairs (our very own "cones of silence"). Our waiter provided good cheer and light conversation despite having to work on Christmas. We both skipped the reasonably priced ($25) turkey holiday dinner option in favor of other choices from the ample menu. Good food, good cocktails. All in all, a fun outing for two long-time SF locals late on a holiday night.
We had a reservation for Christmas Dinner at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco. The only available time slot was 2:30pm, but that was fine. We went to the bar/restaurant at 1pm and had drinks. This restaurant is really an extended bar area, not a traditional restaurant seating area. Again, we were fine with that layout. The bartender was friendly and efficient. At 2:20 I received an OpenTable text reminder and I went looking for a host or hostess. No one around. It got to be 2:40 and I went to the concierge who did not know anything about a Christmas dinner, but she got the manager. The manager said to have a seat anywhere and our waitress would take care of our order. The waitress came over with menus, but we never to saw her again. Another 10 minutes or so goes by, and I went to the manager again, This time she said that they weren't serving Christmas dinner until later and they had just put the turkey in the oven. "Why did you advertise Christmas Dinner at 2:30 then?" She explained that was a screw-up - Sorry. We left the table since we watched the only waitress in the whole area moving in slomotion. We went back to the bar and ordered a sandwich which came in less than 10 minutes. The bartenders had their game on, everyone else was in lalaland.
We made a reservation through OpenTable for a party of 8 on Sunday December 18. When we arrived, the hostess said that they didn't have a table for us and we needed to wait. We waited and about 5 or so minutes go by and then she said she had a table for us that seats 6. We said that wouldn't work and she told us we had to wait some more and when we asked how much longer, she said she didn't know. Mind you, there was a big table surrounded by couches that was available the entire time we were there but it just needed to be bussed. We finally asked about that table and she then extremely slowly cleared the table. By the time we were actually seated it was around 12:15 and the Sunday breakfast buffet with Santa was over, which was the entire reason we went there. We sat at the table a while longer before any staff came over and asked if we wanted coffee. At that time we asked for a manager and the hostess represented herself as a manager and then proceeded to argue with us about the table not being ready. When the actual manager came to us, he told us that Eclipse does not accept OpenTable reservations for parties larger than 6, but I was able to reserve a party of 8 on OpenTable. He did offer to comp our lunch, but we decided to leave due to the unprofessional and distasteful encounters at the Eclipse restaurant. We will never go to the Hyatt Regency San Francisco and especially the Eclipse restaurant again.
Wait staff couldn't give a hoot. Slap bill on the table before you finish your first cup of coffee. Front end girl out of her league with manager trying to sort things out. Food ok but needs work. This has the feel of a company canteen and not a Hyatt restaurant.
No one was anywhere to be found to ask about our reservation (made through OpenTable) so we looked for a table ourselves. The only table available needed to be bussed and we waited over 15 minutes for that. The tables, chairs are worn & dirty. The service was extremely slow, disorganized and the food mediocre at best. We would not go back.
We were there on a Saturday and the service was terrible. We had to wait a very long time to even have someone come and give us water, then a long time for the waiter to take our order. Food was just okay. This new and improved restaurant certainly wasn't. We were not impressed. Very disappointing. Had better experience at the previous one.
The restaurant is well situated at the Hyatt for meetings, but the music in the background is too load for good conversations. The kitchen also closes at 1:30 pm so business meal meetings are limited to ending at 1:30 pm.
The food price also seemed higher than similar SF fare by a little, but would have been more than acceptable if business meetings over meals could be conducted quietly.
Not very good service for both breakfast and dinner. Staff werent friendly and seemed to ignore us for breakfast. Although it was a little busy, we felt like we werent welcome and our server seemed to be forgetful. (didnt ask how we wanted our eggs done, didnt ask if we wanted bacon or sausage with our huevos rancheros) . food was good though. Host didnt say goodbye when we left. Wasnt smiling as we entered.
Had the steak which was surprisingly well prepared and a decent price of meat. Sadly we weren't expecting much after having to search for a host who seemed surprised that we had a reservation and told us to just sit down anywhere... So we sat at the only small table available (there were 2 of us) which was next to the apparent staff hangout area. Big mistake... all we heard was bickering and complaints (from the wait staff) and then we even had to make grand efforts to get attention even though we were less than 3 feet from them... Service at the table was also very cold. Everything altogether made it an unpleasant experience.. Probably won't be going back..
I was displeased with the host who took us to our table. He was quite rude. I had another hostess who questioned my daughter's ID when she wanted a drink and questioned our integrity. Your office needs to train your personnel in customer relations. The food was satisfactory, but it could have been better. The prices are high including the drinks. Your restaurant needs definite upgrading in food and, in particular, customer relations.
Server took my lunch order and then it took 45 minutes for my food to come, after I asked them TWICE to check on my order. Apparently they finally told me the kitchen "lost my order", while I watched two other tables around me get their food even though they arrived and ordered after me. At least they comped the meal after I complained and asked to see the manager.
A musoleum has more life than this sterile, industrial place. The "lobby" surrounding is so enormous and industrial looking that you don't feel like it's a dining experience. There are no plants, trees, florals or color.
The breakfast buffet had a nice variety including dim sum, hot oatmeal and eggs Benedict. The service was mediocre as no one greeted us as we wandered in.
Would not recommend for any hotel guest or outside visitor. Go across the street to Starbucks and grab a muffin.
The décor of this restaurant is cold and impersonal. It looks like the inside of a high tech lobby.
When walking in you cannot tell where the restaurant begins. The seating is scattered about the area. Service was slow at first. Took awhile to get our order in but after we did the food came in a timely manner. No quarrel with the food, it was delicious. We had eaten here many times before the renovation but no longer feel comfortable in doing so. It is lacking ambiance.
As we were staying at the Hyatt, this restaurant was convenient. Waited several minutes at the hostess counter before heading to the bar looking for service both times we ate here so service needs an improvement. We were told it's a new restaurant so we were understanding of the kinks that needed to be worked out. The kitchen was solid both at dinner and breakfast. Salads were fresh, fish tacos were great and eggs Benedict for breakfast were the bomb. The kitchen accommodated slight menu changes too. Would give this restaurant a thumbs up in hopes of improved service.
