Ecco Boston - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Ecco is that "must go to" restaurant tucked away in a little corner of East Boston. The food can match any restaurant in Boston - it is that good. Kudos to the chef for his unique and mouth watering approach to his food. From the PEI mussels appetizer to the Pasta Bolognese to the excellent wine and beer selection, add in the well-trained and knowledgeable staff, and it all adds up to a great meal and an even enjoyable experience.
Arrived on time and seated right away but waited more than 10 minutes to be able to flag down a server to simply get some water. Mothers' Day brunch had a special menu -- that is not all offerings shown on the website were available, and somethings seemed to be marked up in price. French toast was a mushy mess of excess egg in very soft bread that could have been cooked more. Accompanying side order of bacon was overcooked. One person liked the eastie omelet but it should have been good at $ 19 ! Overall pretty unimpressive for a place that supposedly has a reputation for good brunch. I'd definitely go someplace else next time.
I had a 10am Mother's Day Brunch reservation. It is my understanding from being there that morning their normal Sunday Brunch hours begin at 11a. This showed as they were not prepared. There was a line waiting to get in when they opened the doors at 10:06a.
The menu, a specially printed menu showed the price of a Bloody Mary at $9, the bill showed $9.50 and when asked it was stated because of the vodka selection (Svedka), which I didn't ask for. Our entire party agreed that the food was good, the menu slightly limited though.
I was truly surprised by this little place! It was the only place available on Open Table to make a reservation the night before Mother's Day for a Mother's Day brunch. Service was a little slow, but I think this was due to the fact that we got their right when the place opened (as did many others). The food was very good, and the music was on point. The location of the restaurant was especially perfect because it's just next to the airport, and my mother had a flight to catch in the early afternoon.
First of all this place is probably part of the "new Eastie" so it's not like most of the other restaurants in the area which are predominantly Salvadorian/pan-Hispanic. I thought the selection of dishes on the menu was refreshing but nothing too far outside the box. A good beer selection, wine list, and cocktail menu round out the experience.
This place is hidden in a corner of East Boston. As soon as you walk in it feels like you're somewhere else. The atmosphere is pretty cool, it has different music and interesting decor. The staff was super friendly and our waitress made great suggestions for everything! The food was delicious and every so often my husband says he wants to go back just because of the appetizers. Not something usually found anywhere else. We had a wonderful night out!
This was my second time back and I'll be honest, it was primarily for the Banana Foster French Toast. And just like last time, it was euphoric on my taste buds. I also had the honey cinnamon butter too and the flavor kept getting better and better. I enjoyed my smoked salmon eggs Benedict. Ecco didn't disappoint.
The one thing that has room for improvement, however, was service. Our server was really nice, so no complaints there, but service was so slow. It seemed like he would disappear for extended periods of time. The food took quite a while, about 40 minutes. There was a very large group (16ppl) who put in their order before us so I understand why there may have been a delay. Our plates were empty for about 10 minutes before he came to check on our table and clear. It took longer than necessary to get the check, pay and leave. Aside from that, it was a good.
I went to Ecco for my birthday with a party of 12. Our server told us immediately that our table was his second table EVER. As you could imagine, the service the entire night was terrible. Management should never have placed him with such a large party to start his serving career. Let alone, the food was fantastic per usual.
My boyfriend and I were staying at the Embassy for New Years and asked around for a place for dinner got recommendations from family and friends to try out Ecco and it was great from the moment we walked in till we left. Recommend the place from the food and drinks to the atmosphere.
Looking for a restaurant after a concert in East Boston, we found Ecco. It had a sophisticated decor and menu, and the food was quite good. I had mushroom and spinach ravioli, which were delicious, and my husband enjoyed his rigatoni bolognese. Our waiter was a bit slow with the drinks, but we were in no hurry.
Cold, under heated restaurant with a generally cold feeling. There was no hostess to greet you upon coming in, and the waitress has a "could n't care less" attitude. Food was served lukewarm because it has become cold, over 25 minutes after the order was taken. You have to wait 15 minutes before they pour coffee. Even getting the check took a long time. Poor experience and I will never go back.
We ordered the meat candy which was delicious. The veggie omelette cooked to perfection. Home fries were yummy;crispy on the outside, soft inside. Short ribs eggs Benedict was different. Cooked bb beautifully with the meat bb being tender, but with not much flavor. Industry is. go again, for sure if I get another Group on.
The lobster mac and cheese appetizer was very dry and I could not taste the lobster because of a spicy seasoning. The eggplant rolletini was also rather dry , and the Caesar salad was two lettuce leaves with an anchovy and hardly any dressing. I found this meal very disappointing and it cost quite a lot for what we had. The wine was vastly overpriced according to my husband. I will not return there even though it's in our neighborhood. Too bad.
Met my sister for a 7:00 pm Monday night dinner, as I had to pick someone up at Logan Airport a couple of hours later. There was a fairly large party just finishing, but the place was not full. The NE Patriots were playing on the bar TV.
Ordered some glasses of Malbec, which was ok; tasty, doughy bread came in a cigar box.
We ordered a small plate of an eggplant roll as an appetizer. My sister ordered the pork chop, I ordered the Ossu Bucco special, but had to ask the price ($26), it wasn't volunteered.
Twenty minutes later, the eggplant arrived, barely warm (the cheese square on top had congealed). Thirty seconds later, another server brought our entrees. Obviously, the small plate was forgotten in the kitchen. We sent the eggplant back, and asked that it be taken off the bill.
The entrees were quite good, we both enjoyed our choices.
We ordered profiteroles to share for dessert. The ice cream was a bit crystalline, I assume it spent too much time in the freezer unsealed. Not particularly good ice cream either, seemed supermarket generic, not much butterfat. The pastry was soggy, just not pleasant at all.
I might try it again, but certainly not on a football night.
Really good wait service with recommendations. the lobster and grilled corn chowder was absolutely the best! The tuna tartare was alright. the color on the tuna was very dull. the steak with truffle mashed potato and veggie was good. didn't taste much truffle however. the chicken in the chicken broccoli alfredo was very bland and dry. the sauce was very watery, again very bland. for dessert we had espresso over ice cream which was good and different. the panna cotta was very good. i'd definitely come back and try something different. the ambiance was very nice. it wasn't too romantic since there were TVs everywhere and there wasn't much separation from the bar. it would have been nice though since it had a warm feel to it. ample parking in the back which is a huge PLUS.
Hostess was very lovely and accommodating. The atmosphere was very enchanting and the bar was very lively. Our waiter was great and might I say handsome too! From our drinks, appetizers,
entrees and desserts. Everything was absolutely delicious. My friend and I definitely will be back. We give Ecco an A+
We found Ecco on Open Table as we were looking for a restaurant near Logan. We knew that traffic on the Friday night of Columbus Day weekend in Boston would be horrendous (it was!) and that it might be smart to have dinner in Eastie after picking our college daughter up at 6:30 p.m. OpenTable reviews were spot on and we had a great time at Ecco. I would recommend it highly to any and all.
First, they were very understanding when I called to push back the reservation when my daughter's plane was delayed due to bad rain. It is challenging to find Ecco but patience and following directions will reward you with free parking, lovely decor and excellent food. That atmosphere is very trendy but it's not a place that puts on airs. The staff was friendly and attentive. All of our starters (tuna tartare, beet and goat salad) were yummy as were the chicken parmagiana, special scallops and chicken piccata. The menu is extensive and varied.
We will return....it's worth the trip!
After recently dining at Ecco, I would recommend it to everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience from the moment I walked in the door. The hostess was very friendly. The ambience was soothing, modern and overall lovely. The waitress was incredible. She went out of her way to make our dining experience enjoyable. The food was incredible. We had the fried calamari and lobster mac and cheese to start. They were both delicious. We then went on to shrimp scampi and the pasta bolognese. They were also both delicious. Overall from start to finish....service, food and ambience. Ecco has it all!
