Ecco Boston - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Ecco is unique in offering good food, inventive bar, inviting atmosphere, and plenty of parking in an urban setting. But having been there several times, the menu barely changes from month to month or even year to year. It's time for an update.
Great for cocktails and pub style food, but that's about it. Food was not great and definitely not cooked as ordered (a well done burger should be easy to achieve, but was not that night). Pizza was a joke. I am happy that didn't spend more on food. Drinks were fantastic, atmosphere was very cool. Staff were great! Hardly anything was vegetarian. Food could be better and more creative. I expected much more given the price.
Everything was great! The only problem was service. I had to get up twice to find the waitress to ask for something, salt and pepper and another round of drinks. It was not busy at all, at the time. It would've been nice to have been paid a little more attention. Overall, though, food, drinks and ambiance were GREAT!!!
Dined on a fairly quiet Thursday evening. Can highly recommend the lamb lollipops appetizer, the lobster and corn risotto entree and the salmon entree. Creme Brulee was perfect. Wished there had been an intense chocolate dessert option for my husband.
Our waiter Stephen was charming and attentive.
Parking lot was convenient.
The only drawback is the East Boston location close to the tunnel, but having been I would go back.
Service was not good
Could not understand waitress
Did not get our drink order correct
Took half hour to get drinks and then only got 3 out of the 4
Took another ten minutes for 4th drink to arrive
Complained to manager
Who then took our order but did not have the correct attitude
A third waiter then came over to finish off
And we were disappointed
We have been to this restaurant many times with no issues
I do not know if there was a change in management or help but we were very frustrated by the time we left
The food here was amazing!!!! So glad we came to try this place. However, the service was incredibly slow. Way too slow. We had to ask a couple times for the waiter to bring us some bread since we were so hungry, and we had to keep asking when our food would come out.
Service, meal and ambiance were perfect. We had the chicken picatta and porkchop. Both of these were with risotto which was prepared to be very tasty. Husband's pork chop was very tender and flavorful as was my chicken picatta. The bread was served in an authentic wooden cigar box! So novel and the bread was so excellent too. We topped off the meal with tiramisu and creme brulee. Wonderful evening! The hostess was so kind to order a cab for us to return to our hotel! Our waiter was very professional and attentive to every need, filling our water and tea and bringing the courses at a good pace. It is an excellent restaurant in an up and coming neighborhood.
We dined early on a Sunday evening before the restaurant started to fill up. Convenient parking behind the restaurant was a definite plus. Service was attentive. The lobster and grilled corn chowder was outstanding. The combination of the appetizer portion of mac 'n cheese and a salad was enough for a dinner. The lobster ravioli was good, but the pasta was a little more substantial and not as fluffy as some we have had, which is what we prefer. Varied choices in the cocktail list, although a simple gin and tonic came with lemon, which they quickly swapped for a lime at our request. They lowered the lights for the evening as we were eating, so it was a little dark (as is the case in many restaurants now). A nice option in the neighborhood.
This was not our first visit to ECCO, but this time we had a Groupon for dinner for two. Although there were some menu items off limits with the coupon, it did not make any difference because the menu is very broad, with many daily specials. Both my wife and I had the Tuna Tartar first course, it was awesome. For main dish I had the Braised Short Ribs over mash with grilled vegetables. The meat was cooked to perfection with a very creamy and tasty gravy. My wife had the sirloin strip with grilled veg, that too was awesome. We finished off the meal with and Italian dessert. The service was very good, staff very friendly. We had met the chef-owners wife the last time we were in, she was very nice, she gave us a little background on the menu and her husbands love of the business. As far as I am concerned and item on the menu is a winner, even a cheeseburger that sailed by our table looked awesome. Great Place, Great Staff, easy free parking.
The food here was hit or miss. I had the salmon, which was a bit overcooked, but my friends did enjoy their food. We ordered arapitas for a starter and they were soaked in grease, almost as though the oil was not hot enough. We did not enjoy them at all. The service was also quite slow and a bit inattentive; it took 20 minutes to get our drinks. For that reason, we didn't have a second round of cocktails. I would probably not go back.
Drinks were fantastic, and the food was very good. I loved the bread served in the cigar box and the oil with the red pepper flakes was great. I also loved the lamb appetizer, it was exceptional. I can't wait until my next trip to Boston to visit Ecco again to try different items on the menu.
My wife & I went for a date night and we had never been on the area before. You wouldn't think it's a normal location for a restaurant, with a bunch of apartments around, but it's quaint. The food was amazing and we had a fantastic dinner.
We will definitely go again.
We had tickets to Cirque du Soleil and I was looking for a place in East Boston to have dinner before the show. Ecco popped up. Never heard of it and as a food snob was wary of what one could find in Eastie. Surprise, surprise. The food, the ambience and the service was great. We both had the boulagnese. Would recommend it if you are in the area.
I arrived 15 minutes prior to my reservation time. It was 91 degrees outside and I was worried about having my elderly mother standing in the heat, so I called and asked if we could please come inside and sit down until our reservation. We were denied. We waited in the heat until after our reservation time and they STILL did not come get us to let us inside. We ended up going down the street to Santarpios for really good company, service, and pizza.
Everything was perfect! Arrived on time (but the rest of my party didn't) allowed us to hang out in the "lounge" section and have a few drinks prior to sitting. Everything from service to food was perfect. It's nice to be able to enjoy a meal with friends and not be rushed. Will defiantly be back soon.
