   I made a reservation through open table and SPECIFIED that it was my daughters birthday and I wanted a cake. I called 5 days in advance to confirm and got a very nasty man on the phone that told me they needed at least a week to make a cake. Basically, it was a screw you!! At a place that is supposedly one of the top restaurants in the area, the fact that there was no acknowledgement of my request in the reservation and then his snotty response - I seriously doubt we will return. A grocery store cake would have been fine. Any kind of positive response than this.

   The Ebbitt Room is one of our favorite restaurants in Cape May. It’s a bit pricier than many others but in this case you do get what you pay for. Everything from the dinner rolls to the dessert is delicious and memorable.

   Although guests at hotel sat us on the porch where the maitre d was engaged in loud conversation with othrr guests. We should if requested main room as porch is loud and stark. Menu is not inspiring. Starters are better choices than mains. Yet Octopus was tough. Scallops were perfectly grilled, tasty on. A bed of pea purree, verts & lima. Service was attentive but started with no table setting. Then no knife. Food served promptly and hot! Alas. Ebbitt charges full fare fine dining but this was more NJ better diner dinner.

   Great service from front waitress Danica, as well as maitre d’, back waiter, and especially, the cheerful, friendly, attentive busboy. Lovely, charming atmosphere, including a couple of birthday celebrations. Food was great: grilled oysters were excellent, scallops were very good, and the halibut was amazing; presentation in each case was beautiful, and the Key Lime pie was unique and delicious. We will be back to explore the menu, and the charming bar.

   One of my favorite places to dine. Consistently great. I did feel like there was a decline in the plates accompaniments but I assume that’s just a sign of the times .
