Dinner during a weekend stay in Cape May. We have dined here in the past and had wonderful experience. Last evening was a mixed bag. The room was full and bistro noisy during our dinner- reservation was at 6. Our waiter was not great. He tried to explain specials over the conversational noise in the room and some party ers at the bar. It was difficult to hear it all. A daily specials sheet might have been easier for us and for him. Our entrees came out late. My husband’s entree was cold. My sea bream was quite nicely prepared. The fresh corn side dish was very good as was the deviled egg appetizer. The waiter was not very attentive. The manager never checked on how our experience was, though she did ask other parties near us. For the price, not one of our best
The Ebbitt Room is an upscale restaurant that is phenomenal. The food is exceptional, as is the service, ambiance, decor, and value. This is an experience unlike most that I have ever had. I HIGHLY recommend this establishment to anyone who wants a superior dining experience. I cannot wait to return.
The food was good - he had the tuna (delicious), I had scallops - service, due to our waiter, Andrew was very good! Tables are very close and the bar is in the dining area. It’s not that it was too loud, just that you couldn’t help but overhear what was going on with the people on either side of us, and that a woman at the bar had far too much to drink. Glad we experienced it; however do not know that we would go back.
Just wonderful! Romantic setting. Super food ( farm to table), caring waitstaff. Nice wine list( could be stronger).
Our birthday dinner for our friend was fabulous. The service, atmosphere, and food was terrific.
Food was delightful. Cocktails prior to meal at the bar were a great addition to the experience.
Great service. Sat outside in the rear patio and was a very nice night. Food was just OK. Under seasoned and underwhelming. $45 Ribeye was not seasoned at all with “steamed” Broccolini and warm fries. Calamari was not crispy and watermelon salad didn’t have any watermelon.
Service was great from Andy, would return for the drinks and mussels.
From the time we arrived the staff was friendly...courteous...smiling...engaged in the conversation. The menu was filled with a variety of selections...both local choices and far away places. The food and drinks came to our table at just the right time and everything was delicious! Our 50th Anniversary Dinner at The Ebbitt Room was Outstanding!! Thanks so much for the Awesome Hospitality!
The four of us love good food and don’t mind paying for it, but we all just felt the bill was over the top. Total bill was $453 without the tip, which included a $60 bottle of wine. The food was just average, not outstanding. We’ve agreed that we won’t be going back to the Ebbitt Room.
A bit slow
A throwback to an earlier era at the shore when gracious dining was the norm. Really imaginative food pairings were delicious. Especially liked the lobster ceasar salad and the filet and crabcake conbo.
The dinner was extremely good in every possible way that the restaurant could have provided. Literally the best pork I have ever eaten. My only gripe was a family with semi-unruly children was seated nearby, and the mother attempted to breast feed at the table. It was rather distracting before she decided to move elsewhere, and because the staff had nothing to do with this I can't fault the Ebbitt Room with anything. Amazing meal and experience, otherwise.
Excellent all around! Cocktails (Cape May mule), dinner. And service were impeccable all around. Cannot wait to go back!!
Great ambiance and fresh menu.
In spite of other reviews! We had a VERY BAD experience! Waiter bad attitude right from the get go , salad was all brown at $18 , then Med rare King Salmon was VERY over cooked and the skin side burnt to a crisp! The whole night was a disappointment ! From beginning to end ! I’m in the business for 40 years, so I’m not a stranger to the business !
We were looking forward to an elevated, gourmet experience based on new reviews and the high prices, but we found the food lacking and the service less than pleasant. Out of the 3 entrees, only one (the duck) was good. The Scallops were cold and ½ cooked and were sent back to be re-heated. The 2nd time around they were burnt on the top and tasteless. The filet in the "steak and cake" was dry and under-seasoned. The Manager did come around to see how everything was, and offered to buy dessert to make up for the problems, but we weren't eager to extend the experience and just requested that the inedible scallops be removed from the bill. At least they obliged.
If you're staying at the Inn and want only to stagger back up to your room, it might be worth it, but definitely not worth getting off the beach early and driving half an hour for.
Best eggplant appetizer. Lightly breaded in Panco, sitting on top of melted mozzarella and a light marinara. Delicious.
Excellent food and great service. A must stop for me and my husband when we stay in Cape May.
Overrated and overpriced
Crowded, noisy, piano always way too loud to have a decent conversation without having to raise your voice so the others in your party can hear you. Food was nothing to get excited about.
I have had better and I have had worse. Expected more. The noise level was very high.
Brought a young lady there on a date. She had a wonderful night, especially enjoyed the apps. Everything was served well
2nd day at EbbittbRoom... best food in CM.
I think it’s the only restaurant here that would be a regular for us in Philadelphia.
Love this place. Always go here when in Cape May. Sort of need to dress nice... but have seen people in here in shorts and sandals, but do look out of place considering the ladies are whereing high heels and dresses.
Very disappointed....poor service to long of a wait between courses. We have eaten here twice before and enjoyed. Not tonight....save your money and go to Peter Shields
A little pricey but very enjoyable otherwise. Fresh farm to table vegetables. I had a Virginia cosmo which was great. Ambiance, service, was wonderful. The 2nd night we took advantage of the early bird $35 menu from 5-6 or 6:30 PM, which is available most nights except Saturdays, I believe.
Inattentive and poor service. A special occasion acknowledgement requested prior to dining was ignored. Cheese board brought out without an explanation of that was on the board. The pace of service was off, with no time between courses..felt very rushed. The food was acceptable, but nothing like the reviews I have read and recommendations I received. Overall, a very disappointing dinner. Was expecting so much more.
Great food, wine, cocktails and service in a classy setting.
the chicken dish I had heritage chicken was awful came out cold and rubbery returned came back and was still cold something is wrong in your kitchen !
Great server and food was great.
Service was perfect and the food was amazing!
Used to be much better - my wife's risotto was like mush - she sent it back
The waiter was very accommodating
Overall experience was positive at The Ebbitt Room, but less than we expected based on the reviews. We found the presentation of the meal to be more appealing than the taste.
Scallops seemed mushy and lacked flavor, calamari was average, and salmon was similarly average. Sides of warm tomatoes and cauliflower were good.
The restaurant is lovely, albeit loud, but surely a beautiful and historic room. Not sure we would return wishing it was more memorable.
Had heard great things about Ebitt room. Good specifically. Got there on Friday night. Not too busy or crazy. We were a little close to the table next to us but not a huge deal. Service was on, they were extremely attentive. I would given five for it but I asked the waiter for a wine recommendation and all he said was white or rose(ordered fish). So that wasn’t helpful and I ended up picking hitching post, which seriously tasted just like pure alcohol, it was not good no matter what you paired with it. Then we got the fluke which I believe mine was overdone and didn’t have much flavor. My husband agreed as he got the same. People next to us also didn’t like their meal as we could hear what they said cause again... kinda close. Disappointing as I was expecting much better. I would try it again though since I have heard great things and maybe we had an off night.
We’ve visited many times past and loved the food. Unfortunately, not the case this time. This one was a disappointment. There was no variety in the veggie options-eggplant or eggplant and everything was deep fried. When looking for fresh “farm to table” I don’t expect fried food-really defeats the purpose and disappoints!
Sad to say that our food experience at this once my fave in Cape May was not at all the same wonderful dining experience we had years ago. Seems it has gone from a 5 star to a 1 Star...having poor service and food quality not up to the cost. Unfortunately, my family and I will not be dining at the Ebbitt Room in the future :(
The meal and service are terrific
We've been going at least once/year for the past few years. Seems to be going downhill a bit. We've talked to some friends who have similar feelings. Our server may have had an off night, but we were with a group of 4.....punched my appetizer in incorrectly and had to wait another 15-20 minutes for it.....filet was overdone (a real pet peeve anywhere) and after I was sold on (didn't twist my arm much to be honest!) on a nice tequila after dinner, he forgot to bring it and I had to remind him....won't rush back. Better value at other restaurants in Cape May for the $.
The food is very good . The drinks and wine are fine. Asked for the Lemon Drop Martini made by Leo. The noise level is a problem . Can't talk to anyone at your table.
Dinning experience was very good except for the fact that there were small children at the table next to us that were very disruptive.
