First of all most of the food was ok. The place is nice. Drinks were good but “short”. The biggest issue was the server who was totally inept. We were seated and the room was half filled. After 10+ minutes he showed up and said I’ll get you bread, do you want a drink? Ten minutes later the drink showed up (short). Ten minutes later he came back and asked if we wanted bread? After he delivered the bread we ordered. One on the orders was for a medium rare steak. Everything was delivered but the steak was nearly raw. You would think a server would see that and get it fixed. Well he did’nt. Fifteen minutes later we had to wave down the hostess to address the problem, which she did. Then we waited and waited for the check. Again he was invisible and after fifteen minutes he delivered it. After around ten minutes he showed up and I tried to give him my card he actually used both hands to waive me off. Again we found the hostess and she took care of it. This was a special evening for my wife and family.
Service was distracted and slow.
I could have given them a better review for the food - because the bread was good. Never got a chance to eat or drink anything else. We arrived for our 7PM reservation and waited by the hostess desk for 10 minutes as the line built up behind us. We were finally seated at 7:15 and they brought us bread and water. Then we waited for 15 minutes, but the waitress never showed. The one serving the table behind us walked by and glanced at us, but didn't say anything. We had a show to attend, so we ended up getting a slice of pizza.
Totally understaffed. Had to wait over
The salad was delicious. Wine was great. Pork was a bit overcooked but tasty. The live music was too loud! We had been having a great time talking to our friends but once the music started that was that. The folks in the bar loved it but those in the dining room weren't so keen. Good musicians but unnecessarily loud.
Great burger and homemade chips
Will dine here again
The tomato soup was the best I’ve ever had! I also had the burger which was great!
We had a lovely dinner there. I ordered a basic hamburger, which was one of the best hamburgers I have ever eaten. My companions both ordered the fish fry and they loved their food. The restaurant was quiet and clean. Our server was attentive and made wonderful suggestions for our meals.
The food is outstanding.
Nice location; great warm bread served. Nicoise tuna was inedible—a can of Starkist solid white would have been a vast improvement over industrial tuna served for $26.
We discovered Eat at the end of the season and we've been going after matinees at Barrington Stage. The staff is friendly and the manager is attentive. I have enjoyed the Shrimp an Grits. My husband likes their Bolognese. The salads are large enough to split. Everything we ordered was delicious and beautifully served.
Interesting menu, good food served by attentive staff in pleasant open atmosphere. Perfect pre or post theater dinner in Pittsfield, MA. Loved the cheesy grits and shrimp appetizer served in cast iron skillet paired with a garden fresh house salad. Nice industrial chic environment with comfortable space between tables to allow for private conversations. Will return.
Nothing fancy-schmancy, just really good food, promptly prepared and served by cheerful servers in a naturally light-filled space with warm wooden tables and chairs. And very reasonably priced.
I had a vegetarian dish, which was beautifully prepared, tasty and filling.
Let me start by saying the fault of poor service lays at the feet of management and not the servers, who are friendly, helpful and trying to do their best, despite trying to cover too many tables. The food is very good and it's a great atmosphere. We've been here several times and will go back, hopefully, they will hire more great servers. Also, they seem to have a problem of having too few pepper mills and no salt and pepper on the table...when I asked the manager, she shrugged her shoulders acknowledging that it makes no sense.
i selected this restaurant based upon its proximity to the colonial theater, where i had tickets for an 8pm play. we told our server that we had to be out by 7:30pm and we were, but not rushed!!
menu items were varied and i was torn between 2 entrees--i picked the roast pork tenderloin with the braised red cabbage and sauteed rapini (greens)...a good choice. my girlfriend had the "mama's meatloaf", served with mashed potatoes and assorted vegetables...a good comfort food dish!!
overall, a pleasant surprise for a downtown hotel in pittsfield
Having eaten here many times over the course of its existence, our dinner the other night was even better than usual. The lamb was simply outstanding. Salmon was great too. Salad is always good, and the value is too.
Food was good; Service was attentive but kitchen seemed to be slow. Interesting choices on menu-- lamb burger very tasty. Good pre-theatre choice for seeing show at Barrington Stage Theatre. Would return if I was in the area again.
Waiter was just friendly enough and had good suggestions on the menu. Food was very good and very well priced. I would definitely recommend the restaurant.
Heavy salt all around. Even the salad. Couldn’t finish our meals.
PEI oysters were the high point, but at $20 per half dozen, not a bargain.
Pittsfield doesn't have a million places to eat but this one you shouldn't miss if you like upscale and simple places. Eat on North was very busy when we got there (with a table for 10 fussing because they had to wait three minutes for the previous table to clear out) The Staff was outstanding in their attitude and got them to their table quickly and politely even thought the guests were in their faces. We had a very short wait for menus because they were clearly swamped but they were friendly and easy going. The food was excellent - perfect salmon, the best deviled eggs ever (piled high with bacon!) reasonable portion size with great presentation as well as good flavors. Seems to be connected to a hotel but we didn't feel that while we were eating. I would recommend this place for business as well as families (maybe leave your fussy toddler at home though) --it was an oasis. We loved it.
Really distinctive for a restaurant attached to a hotel. Excellent lamb burger for me, superior polenta for my companion, who said the salmon was really great as well.
We had lunch before the theatre in Pittsfield. It was very tasty!
Good location Good menu with enough choices. Good very good Ann excellent friendly service
We had dinner to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary on a night when half the staff called out... got there after the theater rush, but things seemed off still. The food was great EXCEPT for the crab claws, which had somehow frozen and turned to mush. The day was saved with extra oysters and an attentive waiter
Had been really good in the past but disappointing this past Saturday. Service really sub-par.
Waiter (who was a manager subbing) brought white wine, offered to keep it chilled, then forgot it on the table. Long wait for appetizer, the runner comes bringing apps along with entrees. We point out problem and she says "That's what they told me to do," instead of "Whoops, I'm sorry."
I love argumentative servers...
Entrees go back. Waiter comes over apologizes, promises that food will be re-fired. Apps (oysters) good.
Entrees return. Lamb burger pretty good. Not dry. Tuna on the Nicoise perfectly rare but amazingly flavorless. Ask for extra dressing which comes. Helps a little.
Clueless runner come by as we eat entrees with soup, which we did not order.
We finish, Waiter/manager asks if we want dessert, we say no. Wine is finished. Nobody brings check for almost 15 minutes. When it arrives, charge for Tuna is $1 more that menu WHY??? We flag down Waiter, who only nor realizes that things has gone off the rails and appropriately comps us on the tuna, an mentions that she's covering for missing staff whose work, she now appreciates..
Interesting, but really not my problem!
Nice that they comped the entree, but really, the staff need a tune-up, and at least some of the food too.
Pittsfield needs good eating. I hope they get it together.
We had a great dinner, all three of our meals were delicious as was our shared dessert.
Great gathering place . Food was amazing.
Best lobster roll I’ve ever had, and I am an expert on lobster rolls.
Terrific food in a lovely setting. Very good service as well.
Lovely setting, great service, mussels were outstanding. So was the cold carrot and fennel soup. Would return again. Parking a little tricky
Food was good but had to wait 45 minutes for salad and chilled soup
Very good cuisine. Fresh, well-executed food. Tables spaced far apart so noise is kept to a reasonable level for conversation even for a large group. Service is iffy. Too few service people for the size of the dining room. Perhaps not enough kitchen staff either. Overall, we do like eating here a lot.
Short vacation to the Berkshires. Very nice spot close to our hotel
Our only problem was when we were seated at a table where there was no room underneath for our legs The bar manager rudely and abruptly told us that there was room for our legs We requested the change to a high top in the bar area. She finally let us sit there and after that everything was much better. Service was good.
Waiter was attentive at start. As he started to get a few more tables our table was ignored. Food was marginal, but expensive. Salad special was described as AWESOME & DELICIOUS. IN REALITY IT WAS ORDINARY, SMALL AND UNDERWELMING.
WILL NOT GO BACK
Quiet at first, this establishment quickly filled.
Good wine list.
Attentive staff, decent general menu with no vegan offerings.
Adjusted items pleasantly.
Very good food, every thing was very fresh.
Good food, good service, great ambiance. Our only quarrel was a LOT of menu substitutions on an already short brunch menu. Seemed rather odd.
We were delighted with Eat on North. Frankly, we didn't have high expections. We went in for a quick bite before attending a play at the Colonial Theatre. The server was polite, pleasant and attentive. The food was well prepared and presented and very good. The cocktails were delicious and fun, and the craft beer selection was excellent. The restaurant was lively but we could hear each other talk. We will definitely return for more than just a quick bite.
