Overall it was nice but the amount of food you get is small compared to every other Thai place I have ever been. They are stingy on their rice and soy sauce as well. It was nice to eat on a boat but if this was any other place I probably would not go back. The red curry I had was just ok, but I tried the food from my friends and it tasted very good but the portions are just small. Might go back, might not.
Excellent food and great service
This was our first visit and were really impressed. From the warm welcome, helpful staff and beautiful food, it was a fantastic experience from the moment we arrived. Will definitely be going back!
Lovely evening meal to celebrate a family birthday. Had the set menus and food very good as always.
Excellent as always. Best restaurant in Peterborough
Not much variety on the buffet and food wasn’t replaced for long periods. Rice was dry and luke warm
I booked this as a treat for my sons 10th birthday as he loves Asian food. I thought I'd go for an early booking to make sure there was plenty food available so we opted for 12:15.
When we arrived, only two other tables were occupied and they hadn't finished setting out the buffet yet. The staff I found were a bit sour-faced to start with, and as far as I'm aware, didn't tell anyone when they'd finished laying out the buffet. And because we're British, we were all being terribly polite about not making a move.
From what I remember, what was available was prawn crackers, spring rolls, tempura vegetables, chicken wings, chicken satay, white rice, pad thai noodles, and 6 curries (1 veg, 1 tofu, 1 beef, 1 pork, 1 chicken and 1 fish) Not a massive range but perfectly acceptable. I thought it was all delicious.
My youngest son would have liked more choice but actually I thought this was fine. Everything was a little too spicy for my eldest, but he liked the taste of it all. The setting is nice - you can watch the swans go by outside. The boat is on the wonk a little which I find disconcerting but no-one else seemed to notice. I would also say that people (to be fair, me included) tend to pick the meat out of the curries, which isn't replenished for the time we were there (they were very good at replacing the 'starters') so I suspect if you come later on in the afternoon, its not as appealing.
Our bill for four drinks, four buffets, and the included service charge came to 70 quid, which is ok for a special meal for 4 but not a cheap option. The staff did seem to warm up a little after a while as well.
Overall we enjoyed it, and would probably go again, but it would definitely be as a treat!
From the minute you walk in the door till you put your coat on to leave service, food , atmosphere 100%
Mains were brought out with starters incorrectly, was full when main came out couldn't each much,so was disappointing really
I have had a few really nice meals at East, unfortunately they still don’t cater very well with people with food intolerances which really upsets me. I think they need to think about how they can go forward in the 21st century!
Great food. Service pretty good, although didn't get the order quite right. Quite noisy on the Saturday night from Charters downstairs. Another table marred the evening somewhat with their drunken, loud swearing in front of their child, and arguing with the staff about paying. Dealt with quickly by front of house staff.
Food, service, ambience atmosphere perfect, delicious food, really enjoyed my evening with my wife. Lovely experience.
as good as ever, this time we went on a £10 ph tuesday night offer and the standard was as good as when we used it for a 65 person wedding buffet as well as meals we've had over the years in smaller groups.
Doug the manager runs a tight ship, well barge actually and his staff are always efficient and friendly.
Food quite brilliant and East remains the foreign food jewel in the city's crown.
Food was tasty but found as it is laid out at the buffet table it gets snapped up too quickly, if you don't dash to get your serving you end up with all the bits of food no'one else wants. A few times I went up and found some of the dishes were empty or all the meat had gone leaving the vegetables and sauce.
We had the buffet but some of the food was not hot enough.
We went for The Sunday buffet, there was very little choice, the starters were very poor, and the food was not hot. This is the worst Chinese buffet I have ever had. We often come in the week and have the set dinner menu which is really good, so very disappointed with the buffet
Food and service at East is always top notch. Very well ran and the quality is outstanding. Will be returning again soon.
Our first visit, an early booking before a theatre visit.
Service was very good, food was superb, we had a set menu, food was hot, plentiful and very tasty.
We hope to make an early return, and try the main menu.
We went for the Sunday buffet which has a reasonable selection of tasty food. Good views overlooking the river Nene. Be wary though that this venue puts a 10% service charge onto your bill and drinks can be quite pricey. Having said that I will be going again as the service, food and ambience is good.
I have recommended Eat to my friends and have brought many of them to eat with us. Very good restaurant, nice staff and great food
Have already recommended other people to dine there.
Cannot fault the food or the service.
Interesting restaurant located on a Dutch barge on the river. The food does not quite live up to the surroundings, especially the vegetarian pad Thai noodles which were very bland. The tofu was good and the Singapore curry OK. The home made coconut ice cream, however, was delicious. The staff were welcoming and the service good.
Tuesday £10 2 course menu excellent value for money. Food all hit and delicious
Never fails to deliver always 5 star food .....we try many different dishes, give it a go you won’t be disappointed
Usually very reliable, East let us down this time and it was a special occasion. Birthday girl's main course was lukewarm. It was sent back but the second attempt was no better really and was left uneaten. I'm sure it would have been replaced for a third time but as there were only two of us there, my meal was already eaten so it spoiled the whole experience really. East didn't charge us for the one main course which was fair, but it wasn't really the point.
Amazing food and great fun. Staff were friendly and food was delicious
Great food. Knowledgeable staff, great setting. For £10 you cant go wrong.
I would absolutely recommend East. The food is just incredible, if a little pricey but you pay for quality. The staff are very friendly. Nice atmosphere although can become a little noisy during the busier periods.
Great service. Fabulous food. Not rushed at all. Love the flavours of everything. Favourite Asian restaurant by far.
Eaten here a few times now, the food is always excellent as is the service, very good for Oriental flavours
Very well run
manager very friendly
By far and away the best restaurant in Peterborough, the food is consistently above average and the staff are super friendly. A little on the pricey side but well worth a visit for special occasions or for the lunch buffet which is a snip at 2 courses for £12.95
Lovely setting. Wonderful food. Really enjoyable evening
Overall the food was nice as always. But just a couple of small things that could have been better. We had the mixed oriental starts for 2, the heavenly beef was dry and over cooked and Tempura battered aubergine was soggy. The Aubergine seems to be a bit out of place.
Great service - really nice atmosphere and the food was delicious! We’ve been to East a few times, and we’re always impressed - will definitely go again!
A favourite restaurant of ours with lots of choices.
I have never been disappointed with anything of the East experience.
Nice food but very little choice. Also some of the food for buffet was hot from the kitchen but sat on a cold plate which obviously meant it got cold in no time.
We weren't told where napkins were and views from boat were crap. I mean I suppose it is just opposite a load of flats.
Wouldn't recommend the place die to the fact it's far out of town and thr choice was poor. I did enjoy the food but not enough to warrant paying £13. More like £10 as there are plenty more buffets with double thr choice of food
Excellent food, particularly the green curry. Perfect beer (can bring up a pint from downstairs) and lovely view.
Friendly staff, excellent food riverside setting...all good.
