Good generic food, but nothing exceptional. I have had some items on the menu in the past that were very good....but it is in the neighborhood, convenient and very reasonable.
I'm a frequent diner at East of Eighth. The food is good and moderately-priced. The service is excellent: friendly but not overly-friendly, courteous, competent. It's a great neighborhood restaurant and bar but good for those who don't live in Chelsea. A fun place!
Great food. Great atmosphere. Service was OK. Had to remind the waiter a couple of times for my glass of water. Other than that, service was pretty good.
Have eaten here with friends and family - several times. It was always a comfortable setting with excellent martinis and delicious food. Was able to talk with guests without having to shout to be heard and the service staff was always courteous and attentive. Very pleasant dining experience.
We had never dined in the upstairs dining room (only in the garden area) and were pleasantly surprised by the relaxed environment, the pleasant and super friendly service and the delicious lunch that we shared. We will definitely go back again. Thanks Gloria! You are a fantastic server!
Excellent Christmas dinner. Dinning room was packed and often tight squeeze but good casual dining experience.
East of Eighth is my favorite neighborhood restaurant in Chelsea--good food, good prices, congenial and helpful staff, not too noisy and always generous. It is also next door to the movie theaters.
Quiet setting for a get-together with a now NY-based cousin. Innovative menu, and especially good Seasonal Harvest Plate (vegetarian). Reasonably priced for NYC.
The wait staff were excellent and very patient as we waited for a late friend.
We had a good table for speaking and catching -up...there was no pressure to hurry and the food was prepared to our individual tastes . Great location near SVA and movie complex next door...and lovely garden downstairs in the mild weather.
Pre theater pricing is an exceptional bargain. Movie and dinner date in the neighborhood is so convenient. food is good, service and price is great.
Sat upon arrival. Food was acceptable. Service was decent.
Great food, attentive service and a good pour!
The menu looked like it had some wonderful things to eat, unfortunately the food was average. The matzoh balls in the chicken soup were super salty.
Still a good location for cocktail and eats
nice neighborhood place, esply for before or after theater/cinema.
We wanted to try this restaurant for a while based on reviews online. what a disappointment!
the food were served cold and loaded with salt, the servers are indifferent and strange attitude.
The price were reasonable, but we prefer good food instead. Do not recommend.
For me it was not a good brunch menu - poor choices to select from and not very good food.
It was disappointing, & I won' t go there again.
We had an incident with the manager. A person who was clearing the table spilled hummus on two of the guests. The wait staff were quick to bring club soda and napkins to clean off the clothes. Our friend who had the most damage, asked if $10 could be taken off the bill for dry cleaning costs. The manager refused and instead gave us a card with his name on it to submit a drycleaning bill. This was not good customer service- the manager even said that perhaps this was OUR fault because we were helping the servers clear the table! If we could not get some credit, the next best thing would have been a note from the maître-d to us, assuring that the dry cleaners' bill would be reimbursed, acknowledging that the staff inadvertently spilled food on a customer.
The restaurant was accommodating as I have a few dietary requirements. The music was rap at one point which didn't seem right for dinner!
Salad was perfect. Nice fruit for dessert. Entrees were ok but not outstanding.
Food was yummy. Service very friendly
The service was very nice. But the food was not at all what was posted on their online menu. Menu was much smaller.
noisy, but a fine option for a meal surrounding a movie on west 23rd st.
We selected this restaurant based on location and Yelp reviews. Our party of 6 (business team) was seated in the back patio area next to some equipment that made noise, like being near a giant white noise machine. All but one enjoyed their entree, the one who didn't eats vegetarian and I think the restaurant lacks a lot of options for him.
The Server could use some experience in how to interact with customers. Even though I told the hostess we had a show reservation so we only had an hour or so, the server was slow to come to our table. He also was unaware of what beers were no longer available. He made little effort to engage with us even when taking the food orders. And when asked his opinion his answer was "good" to everything.
Always enjoy this comfortable neighborhood place. There is a terrific varied menu and great prix fixe. However, my favorite is the regular menu item of duck quesadillas. Service is attentive and food is good and reasonably priced. Sit in the garden if weather permits.
Very dingy atmosphere. Old restaurant. Limited menu and not up to date with food choices
The food was absolutely delicious but the service was extremely slow...we were there for almost two hours and checked on maybe twice. We never got refills on anything and had to hunt someone down to pay the bill so that we could go to the event we were scheduled to go to. Overall, food amazing, service pretty poor.
We ate in the garden. It was fantastic. Cozy, great service and everyone's food was delicious. I would totally recommend it and will go back again.
The ambience of an outdoor garden was tastefully done.
There were overhead heaters when there is a chill in the air.
The service was professional
The waiter was very attentive
The food was good, nice size portions and well worth the money
I would definitely recommend and plan on returning when in neighborhood
The room was VERY dark. We were put upstairs for our party of six, which was fine. But we were also seated in an empty dining room next to two women who were not happy with our volume and we could hear their every word too. There was plenty of room to put the people who wanted a private conversation...wny next to a big party with a reservation for six?
My family was pleased with their meals overall, but I was very disappointed with my Duck Quesadilla (the reason I thought of coming to eat here). If there was cheese on it (as described), it was microscopic (I couldn't taste it). The dish was absolutely bland and tasteless. Doesn't something
had the fig Pizza, not as good as it used to be... It was very disappointing because that was the reason I went back there...
Pre-Theatre dinner was the best. Especially loved the mussels. The waiter was wonderful.
Food and service excellent. Even had window seat requested. Brought 2 friends and they were impressed and intend to retutn
Lovely reasonable place to have dinner with friends. Food was very good.
Three of us dined. We'd all been there before and been pleased. On this occasion, all three of us found our entrees to be terrible. None of us could finish, which was a rarity in my case. We ordered from the pre-theater menu and had the lamb burger (meat was awful), zucchini spaghetti, and seasonal harvest platter. Maybe the chef was having a bad night.
The food was a little bland and more what expect from a pub in the suburbs then a restaurant in city. Prices were good though.
Always a great spot to meet friends. Food and service is outstanding. Try to get their early for the pre theater menu. Totally worth the price for a 3 course menu. Great selection. Their lentil soup blew me away.
The dining area upstairs is very nice. The garden area could use some work.
Good place we went to eat for meeting up with friends we haven't seen in awhile.
East of Eighth is a favorite restaurant with my family and friends. The garden is especially lovely. The food and service are consistently good and the prix fixw menu a real value. I highly recommend it.
Always a good time at East of Eighth.
If you can eat in the outdoor garden, go for it. Very relaxing atmosphere.
