This a tasty and quiet place. I've been many times for lunch and dinner and its consistently good. Best Indian in town? No. But very nice for a lunch meeting or a date.
The food and service are excellent. The food has a large variety of choices and the flavors and spices are nuanced perfectly. We have gone here on a number of occasions and each time has been a great experience.
The makhana with lamb was the best thing that happened to me all week! Everything else was also delicious (samosa, naan, lassi cocktail). Great place!
Did not pay attention to my request for a nice table instead gave us the table which looked into the restroom. Yuk! Would be better if they had a folding screen to camouflage that area. Asked again for a better table but was told to take it or leave it
Food was ok not standout. Digital ordering ok not sure what happens if you don’t have a smartphone Some things not available but understand given current environment
Staff seemed like they wanted to do a good job. Food came out in good order and timely
Great food, reasonable prices, excellent service and atmosphere. Order as a family or couple and share in some tasty food!
Food is delicious
The food here is mediocre. I ordered butter chicken. The chicken in it reminded me of the pre-cooked, pre-cut, prepackaged type you buy at the grocery story (Perdue makes this, for example). The sauce had a vinegary taste that I had not experienced before with butter chicken, perhaps from the preservatives in the chicken. My friend had a cauliflower dish and that was also just okay.
I loved the spacing of the tables. That is not something they just did for covid, they have always (I have been going there for years) done. You come to talk with your friends, not hear conversations at the next table. Now it is especially important. The food is delicious and the service is friendly and efficient. The menu is accommodating to people who have diet restrictions...The waitress knew what was in the food, down to small details. My only problem with the restaurant is that I ate too much. I continued to eat when I was way past full. I licked my plate clean.
This restaurant is absolutely FANTASTIC! From the outside of the restaurant, I wasn't sure what to expect on the inside as far as ambiance, decor and the overall "look" of the place. Once we got inside, I knew immediately we will come back to this place. That's just based on the look of the place, the decorating, the seating and the art.
The Naan was by far the best I've ever had. Ever. The drinks were amazing and the FOOD? You will ABSOLUTELY be doing yourself a disservice if you don't eat here. Everything....I mean EVERYTHING was amazing.
Loved this little spot. The chicken korma was so delicious I doused my rice in the curry and ate so fast I almost got indigestion. The garlic naan was well seasoned and deliciously fragrant, and the mango lassi cocktail was super yum. Definitely a good spot for a nice occasion.
Great food and a really good place to have quiet conversation. Service is excellent.
Food and presentation was excellent - staff made great recommendations
We really enjoyed our meal here. Started off with a tasty Samosa Chaat and some Masala wings. The wings packed a nice kick from the spices. Main courses were Lamb Vindaloo and Chicken Makhani. Both were very flavorful, and both had a fair amount of their respective proteins. A side order of Naan helped scoop up the delicious sauces. Prices are very reasonable.
Excellent service by Beppe. She took great care with the kitchen to make sure my meal was gluten and dairy free. The bartender made a superb Moscow mule. The biryani was a bit too spicey for me but my colleague loved the spice level on her dish. We will return. Easy parking on the street.
It’s been a while since we last dined here, maybe 5-6 years. Just mediocre food and friendly but chaotic service. There are definitely better choices for Indian in the Portland Metro.
Amazing food! The flavors were incredible and the presentation and quality were great. The server gave excellent recommendations and explained the menu so we could understand what everything was (we had no experience with Indian food!)
I planned this dinner as a surprise for my wife who never wants to eat Indian food. In fact, we passed another Indian place along the way and she said she hoped we weren’t going there! Well, despite this aversion to Indian food, my wife absolutely loved it! And I’m sure we will be back.
Only critique I would give is the atmosphere was a little quiet and boring. Very nice looking! But at times it was so quiet I felt like I was disturbing the place if I clanked my fork against the plate too loud. Otherwise, excellent experience.
Great food. The vindaloo was spicy and you could still taste the flavors, which is not always the case. The samosa was excellent as well - perfect pastry. Fried potatoes were also very good. Great ambience, perfect place for anniversary dinner. I will return and would recommend it to everyone!
Looks a little sketchy from the outside and ambience isn’t great, but our server was a doll - she made our evening - and the food delicious. Recommend the eggplant and tandoori mixed grill.
Great service, staff are wonderful, food is excellent, venue is comfortable and fun
One of the best tasting Indian restaurants I’ve been to. Outstanding food with many great allergy friendly options. Service was right on point.
Took an hour to get food. Food was so so.
We were very happy with the food and the service. Due to the early hour, the restaurant was quiet, but was starting to get busy by the time we left around 7:00 p.m. The bar was great and would be a great place to return to for a fun drink and a meal.
We again visited this restaurant where the food is outstanding and the service is great....highly recommend this place
We discovered East India 12 years ago and have gone back every time we’re in Portland. It’s always been a great experience to dine there.
The food was amazing and our server was excellent. She said she was new, but we would have never known!
Small spot but good customer service and nice flavors in the food and sauces.
We made a reservation. Walked over a mile, only to find the restaurant to be closed. We had a late reservation and we were unable to find another option.
I have long considered East India Co. the best Indian restaurant in Portland but I was really disappointed this time because so much of the menu was unavailable - my favorite things. Not even chai tea was available. I won't return until it has returned to its previous quality. Too bad.
4/5 dishes were well flavored. One dish I didn't like at all, but this may be a personal preference. The chicken was overcooked in each dish. Lamb was perfect.
Service was average.
This is always a wonderful dining experience every time I come to Portland and last night was no different. Wonderful food and staff is very friendly.
Excellent service and meal. Might be short staffed but they did a fantastic job.
The food is truly excellent and the servers are very friendly and accommodating. They are currently very understaffed, so the service was not really as good as it should be.
This was our first time at East India Co. and took a chance by inviting another couple. What a great find! The food was delicious and authentic. If you have food sensitivities, they will work with you so don't be afraid to ask. The service was excellent and the wait staff very knowledgeable about everything from the wine to the food to the night cap. Will definitely be going back!
Delicious! A location with which they did they best they could. Get the lamb.
Family dinner for my daughter’s graduation.
We returned to East India Co after a three-year absence. The staff was very happy to see in-person diners, and the seating was spacious. We had one dish new to us--samosas, served open, with chick peas on the side--delicious. The other stand-bys were also excellent--tandoori chicken, lamb saag, and eggplant. We will definitely keep this on our list.
We’ve eaten at the East India Co. several times, but did not have the best experience during our last visit. The restaurant was not busy, yet with only two servers for the restaurant, we didn’t feel like they paid much attention to our table. First, their Diet Coke syrup had run out and they did not have any syrup to replace it. We asked for water and were given room temperature water, which we had to then ask for ice water. We ordered appetizers, which were good, but we didn’t have any utensils or napkins on the table...again we had to ask for them. Our entrees came out all together, which was nice, but one of them came with shrimp and we were told that was listed on the menu that way...it was not. Our server didn’t reappear at our table for the remainder of our meal. We were so disappointed in our experience especially since we’ve had wonderful experiences here in the past.
Great service and wonderful food!
I have a new favorite Indian restaurant for date night!
The food and the restaurant ambience were GREAT. Service was a little slow, but overall very good experience.
