East India Co. Grill & Bar
Subtle complex marinades using time honored Indian grilling methods created by seasoned master chefs reflect the food trends in today's India. The menu remains true to classic Indian recipes but is served with verve and style. All of this along with our hospitality and innovative signature cocktails makes for a unique dining experience.
The restaurant is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Portland on 11th avenue between Yamhill and Taylor. We are open for lunch, happy hour, and dinner Monday through Sunday. We invite you to join us for the East India experience.
Delicate and complicated flavors come together splendidly. Simply Scrumptious!!!
Great food and helpful advice from our server on wine and spirits. The food is wonderfully spicy, but there are great options for those like my husband which cannot handle spicy food.
Great food and great service!
Excellent flavors and spices. Broad selection of appetizers and entrees. Comfortable atmosphere. We’ve been here a number of times over the years and they never disappoint.
Food was delicious and service was good despite being a bit understaffed. This was my second visit and I will definitely be going back. Reservation is recommended.
Great food and plenty of it
Everything about this restaurant was outstanding. I highly recommend it. We will definitely be back.
Loved the food and service.. The ambiance could be made more vibrant.. It felt dull.. But the food kind of negated that factor..
The food was delicious; the service was very good and the ambiance was quiet. The decor is simple and lovely.
Delicious food at a reasonable price.
The service was really bad, the worst I seen.
It was fast good and delicious
We hadnt been to East India in several years, and it has clearly changed. I picked it for my birthday, and even added that comment to OT, but no acknowledgment. It used to feel/taste like high-end Indian, but now seemed fast food. Basic sauces, nothing special... yet still $172 for 5 people, eith no alcohol. We were rushed... at one point we were just having a conversation and the waitress said "ready for boxes?". Oh, and gratuity was included (hence the 172) but we weren't told that, and wouldn't have tipped that amount. Not impressed, wont be back.
A must try when in Portland. We will be back. Thank you so very much.
The decor of the hotel was very nice. The food was really authentic and delicious. My son and wife enjoyed overall. Our server was amazing
Loved this place! Fresh food, tasty choices and good service
Service was a bit slow considering they weren’t busy at all, but the place is quite relaxed and laidback. We were just unfortunately in a hurry at the end.
Food is excellent! Highly recommend.
Good food. Some tasty items not seen on every Indian menu. Okay/good service with low/moderate noise levels in comfortable enough but not very interesting decor. Excellent location for pre-show dinners.
Fabulous food, fabulous staff. A very enjoyable place to eat with friends.
They have a good atmosphere. The food is good. The service is ok. It could be better. We had to ask for water refills and wait a while for the server to assist us with boxes and our check at the end of our meal.
Lovely experience in a delightful environment. Make a reservation.
Food and service is always great. My favorite Indian restaurant by far.
I really would love to give you all a good review but: Screaming kids are not conducive to a relaxing dinner. Curtains that do not give privacy since the waitress did not know how to undo them. The food was fair but not worth the price. The drinks are fair as well. I would possibly visit again if there were sections for crying kids and curtains that can be drawn.
The food was luke warm, in very hot serving dishes. The quality not as good as previous visits.
This was recommended to me by a friend who has travelled to India several times. It was SO GOOD. I had the chicken vindaloo - it was delightful. Highly recommend.
The food has changed. We’ve come for Christmas dinner here the last 5 years, and what was once a fine dining experience, has become horrible. Canned potatoes? No thank you! This will be our last.
I eat here regularly and decided on Christmas dinner with friends here. We ordered individually and shared our dishes. All were delicious, eggplant, vegetable Saag, Tikka Marsala lamb and of course Naan. Service was perfect and the wine selection small but good.
Great food—service has some misses, and then no comp on anything 🤨
The food was very good and the service was wonderful. We went with a small group of six and enjoyed the experience at East India Co.
We ordered a number of dishes that we shared and all of them were delicious. The only comment I have is there wasn’t any heat in the food even though we requested medium spicy.
Low lighting, romantic atmosphere, good for a date.
Good service and delicious food. I highly recommend eating here.
We were really looking forward to trying this restaurant with such a nice ambiance. However, things didn't go well from the start. No one came to our table for quite a while, and when the waiter finally showed up he was very unfriendly. Food was adequate at best. Then when we paid the bill, the waiter claimed to not be able to use the Open Table award check that was specific to this reservation and restaurant. I called Open Table, and reluctantly the waiter issued the credit. We won't be back.
The food was competent but the service was terrible. Extremely slow in all respects for such a slow evening. Very aloof and inattentive staff. For the price, there are much better options for Indian in the Portland area.
We went as a group of 6 for Lunch and every one liked the food and service.
The spice level was neutral to all and food was fresh .
I got the "set lunch"; the main (vindaloo) was excellent, but the sides were disappointing. It was supposed to come with "soup" and "dessert" - there were 2 bowls of liquid on the platter (everything came at once), and I couldn't tell which one was supposed to be "soup" (one bowl had no real flavor, was just slightly salty) & the contents of the other bowl really lacked any flavor at all. The salad was uninteresting - iceburg lettuce, no dressing. Maybe salad dressing was the contents of one of the bowls? The warm masala and the papadams were very good. Another of our party had lamb biriyani which was excellent. Conclusion: the mains are excellent, but some of the "sides" need work. The waiter didn't ever check back on us to see if we wanted anything else (e.g. another beverage, which I would probably have ordered). I was too embarrassed to try to ask him if the contents of one of the bowls was supposed to be the "dessert."
Great food and attentive wait staff!
Great food, nice people. Fancy atmosphere, but not stuffy.
The categories don't quite work. We chose to have our Thanksgiving Dinner at East India Company and were not disappointed. The menu is varied, with lots of options for our gluten intolerant member. The service was attentive and informative but not smothering. Highly recommended!
The food at East India was very good, generous portions, well seasoned. The service was uncharacterically tawdry. Waiter was slow to acknowledge our presence, slow to get our order, food came out efficiently, but we had to flag him down as request our check. Skipped dessert because we had symphony. Noticed that the table next to us received very attentive service, so you might fare better than we did. We’ve been here many times before symphony and never had poor service before.
The food was great. Service was slow, but we were in no hurry.
We've been to this restaurant more times than we could count. We started gathering at EIC for special occasions. We've enjoyed many more since then. The thing is, each time we go to this restaurant the service gets worse. I say I would recommend EIC to a friend but with the preface that the service is poor to fair. On a slow night, Tuesday is when we visited for my son's birthday, you'd think that would be the time to perfect your service so if folks come back they understand when you are busy.
Reserved a booth for my husband's birthday. We arrived on time and were seated at a tiny table. None of the three booths were available anyway. They acted like nothing happened when I told them about it and just said to enjoy our evening. I guess they don't actually read the notes when you make a reservation.
