Delicious lunch with five friends. Table ready when we arrived. Our server was excellent: attentive, helpful with ordering, unobtrusive. Absolutely delicious cuisine! We all plan to be back with our families and friends! We hear there is a wonderful happy hour as well! Thank you East India!
This was my first time dining at this restaurant, and I was truly impressed. The waitstaff was very friendly and attentive, and answered all of our questions. The food was amazing! The balance of different flavors in everything that we ate really set this restaurant apart from other Indian restaurants I've been to. The chef was delightful, and came and chatted with us at our table for a little bit. You can tell he is really passionate about his cooking - and it shows.
This is now my new favorite place for Indian cuisine. I will certainly be back.
Great server/bartender. Great food. Very comfortable setting
The food was delicious. The waitress and bartender were both amazing and knowledgeable, including their spot-on recommendations when I had trouble deciding what to order.
Excellent Indian food and a great bar. Just a bit noisy for a conversation.
My favorite Indian restaurant in Portland! I've had dinner here several times and the food and service are always great. I wish I could remember the name of the person who served our table last Thursday night, because she was so professional, friendly and knowledgeable. She made our meal -- which was excellent, as usual -- an even more enjoyable experience. Highly recommend!
Food and service was so great! It was a busy night and our server kept his cool and was professional and food did not take as long for being a busy night
This is a favorite place downtown. Food is excellent and well-presented.
AMAZING. Their service was INCREDIBLE. I’ve lived in Portland since 2006 and this is the best service I’ve ever had!
So glad we tried this place before a concert at the Schnitz. We have two dishes we love that we always try first at Indian restaurants: Tandoori chicken and Rogan Josh. The chicken was tender and flafirful, but could have used a few more onions and peppers. The Rogan Josh lamb shank was fabulous, super tender and the sauce was rich and delicious. Garlic naan rounded out the meal nicely. Also the waiter was very accommodating and made up a special cocktail, a boulevardier for my hubby which he said was excellent. My house red wine pour was super generous! We will be back for sure.
Always great food and service
the food was ok, there was one dish that stood out for the rest, which is the Makhani. However, the service, though the server was nice, it seems that they were understaffed in the front of house. The time between appetizers and entree were about 40 minute long. The food was good just not great for the prices that we paid. I hope they figure out their staffing issues.
Usually the food is spicier than what we were served last night, which was disappointing, but I love this restaurant. The food and drinks are always good. Service was impeccable.
It started out a little rocky—we were kept waiting at the hostess stand for 5 minutes too long, after arriving for our reservation. But then we were seated in a lovely booth. First time ever seated in this prized area of the restaurant. But then after we spoke to our waitress for the first time she sounded nasal and so I asked for a different server because I didn’t want to get sick. This was accommodated and the rest of the evening went smoothly. The food is always excellent here.
Christmas tradition at East India Co started four years ago and will continue. Food and service were great - especially the lamb chops and paneer tikka masala. A special shout out to the hostess, who was very attentive from the moment we checked in. She made sure that there would be zero problem with the peanut allergy, which included making sure the pan in which they roasted peanuts from the bar was cleaned well in advance of our reservation time.
Wonderful food, lovely ambience. Loved that it was open Christmas Day. It was packed!
I was disappointed. The menu descriptions were off from what we ordered. The environment was very nice. We ordered the samosas based on the recommendation from our waitress they were delish that’s where is fun ended. We were going to order a different appetizer. I believe it was like a croquet. Not sure if the name. She said it’s actually Tempura.
I ordered the salmon tandoori, it was delicious but it was 4 pieces of salmon and nothing else. Not what you’d expect for dinner no rice or sauce. The salmon was supposed to come with Bombay potatoes. When I asked the waitress, she said they’re a garnish and was brought a garnish of potatoes on a plate. Our table also ordered buttered chicken that had no flavor and the chicken biryani. The biryani tasted like yesterday’s rice with chicken left overs.
The manager did come over to apologize and offer us ice cream on the house. We declined. Too many desserts around the holidays. She mentioned they’re working on revamping the menu. We were also told by the manager the restaurant is family style. We had no idea. Overall it was a bad experience. I likely would not go back.
Christmas Eve
Beautiful dining room, attentive staff and good food! Overall a very good dining experience!
We would definitely return when in Portland. Very good food, service was fine, ambiance good, parking on street or in nearby lots.
East India Co. is our "go-to" restaurant when friends and family are visiting. It's the best Indian food for us, and the atmosphere is QUIET -- you can have a normal conversation without having to shout, even at a table for 8. We always order the makhani (usually paneer) and the lamb biryani. If we need more, we get the samosas (appetizer) and the saag. Their naan is terrific. Honestly, there isn't a dish on the menu that isn't a crowd pleaser unless there's an allergy or dislike (e.g., my husband despises eggplant, which is a great sadness since their eggplant dish is one of MY favorites). Very good masala chai (which comes Unsweetened, thank goodness), and my nephew raves about their salt lassi.
Excellent food, fantastic waitstaff. Service was top notch as well. If you like Indian food, this is the place for you.
Excellent food and service. I highly recommend East India Co.. We have been looking for a quality restaurant after the one we always had gone to closed due to the owners retiring. Give this a try, you'll like it.
Excellent food and drink. Good selection/variety on menu.
Great overall, slow to be seated despite reservation. The food here is always delicious. Had a perfect cocktail.
The food and service was excellent!! This is our new go to restaurant for Indian food
East India has a relatively limited menu - but what they serve is very good. The balance of flavors, fresh ingredients. Without specifying a spiciness level, it is served with just the right amount of spice - not too little or too much. Service was attentive, yet respectful of patrons. I enjoy this restaurant for both lunch and dinner.
delicious (: we loved the food we loved the atmosphere
Wonderful and elegant restaurant. Food was incredible!!
Loved the entire evening! Our server was fantastic and made some great recommendations!!
We enjoy the wide variety of excellent Indian food at this restaurant. We always get great service. The decor is nice, especially if you get on of the semi-circular booths. The music track adds to the ambience. Prices are very reasonable considering that it is in downtown Portland.
Good menu. Good food but not forehead smacking. I'd go again. The mixed Tandoori plate was a great value at $14.
We were doing a dinner training for some products and the hostess and waitress accommodated everything we requested. Everyone was super nice, plus the food was excellent.
Great dinner. Bartender doubled as server. Great employee. Needs some training on organizing his service steps & timing. We will definitely be back.
anniversary
Celebrated Diwali with family and delicious food! The food
Efficient service, pleasant meat
Everything was great! It was our second time there as it was just as good as last time. Every dish we ordered was very good. The restaurant design is cool too and the service was very good. Every one on our 9 person party was delighted!
Excellent food, delightful and attentive servers, and a lovely experience overall. One of my favorite places!
Fantastic authentic Indian food. Great service. Can always get a table even at the weekend.
