Great place for a catch up with an old friend. The staff was extremely friendly and didn't rush us. We both had the chickpea stew which was generous in terms of portion size and absolutely delicious!

We found the food to be just OK--baked goods struggled with texture. The waffle was too light with little substance. The doughnut was too think and brick-like. Flavors were better, but the service was a little surly and we didn't feel welcomed, even though they were not that busy.

This experience left something to be desired. Food was just average and the atmosphere wasn't what I expected for my business guests. Perhaps this would be good for a drink or casual lunch with a friend.

We had dinner and the food was outstanding!
I had the pork belly with grits and my wife had the chicken. We both had the smoked hake soup, which we put at the top of our all time best courses!
Service was attentive and prompt.
Five and 1/2 stars! Go there if you can, you won’t be disappointed!
(As I write this we are back for the 3rd time having lunch.)

Reliable, yummy food and they take reservations (which for me is a huge attribute in a town where the food scene is awesome and can be hard to get into some other places). Staff is friendly. We love it

Server was attentive but not totally knowledgeable about substitutions. Had to ask for the check, but once picked up it came right back for signature. Great place, excellent value for the price. Everyone in our group expressed genuine satisfaction with their food.

One of my favorite restaurants anywhere in the world. The charred escarole salad is superbly simple and delicious. My son says the thrice fried fries are to die for. My husband had a Moroccan chick pea that was wonderful. I also loved he rosemary aperol cocktail

Great meal. Wonderful service. Loved the Caesar salad (with poached egg). The roasted spaghetti squash served with the fish and chips is a fabulous touch. My husband had the special (skate served on a seasonal veggie succotash) and I swear I heard yummy noises while he was eating.

We made an early Open Table reservation for 4 for dinner before a concert. East Ender's location is within easy walking distance to the Waterfront venue and it was early enough to find parking on the street. To our delight, the food was delicious and the service was prompt. The guys had fish and chips, which was delectable. Their thrice cooked fries are perfection and the beer batter on the fish was very flavorful. The girls are the lobster melt sandwich, which was also delicious, though the taste of lobster was a bit lost in all the other yumminess.
The highlight of my meal, however, was the classic amaretto sour cocktail with a layer of foam on the top. It was so dreamy, I had 3. Definitely a first! We can't wait to return to this casually pretty space to enjoy the food and friendly service.

I took a small group of fun clients here for a not-too-serious business lunch and it was perfect. We all enjoyed everything that we ordered, our server was knowledgeable, prompt and fun. The atmosphere is a refined casual, that makes it flexible for multiple occasions. I will assuredly return.

After two years of dining in Portland and eating at a number of terrific and even memorable restaurants, East Ender my husband's and my favorite - and where we take any and all friends coming up here to visit. If we go more than about a week without the smoked hake chowder, we find ourselves hankering for bowl. By now we've tried almost everyone on the menu (and there are always great specials.) even the Caesar -- so easy for restaurants to toss off as "whatever". Here it's excellent, as are the burgers and "thrice-cooked" fries, and trust me - 3x makes the difference. Don't miss the Brussels sprouts fried with chili and lime. Beets and goat cheese also delicious. Even the chicken wings, which normally I wouldn't order. I could start on the entrees but all g all are excellent, as are the seasonal desserts. Oh, and a nice spot and terrific service by really friendly and knowledgeable people? As I said: our hands-down Portland fave.

Nicely appointed, friendly and welcoming space, if small. Duck tartine, orchiette, chick pea stew were very good, and the tomato bruschetta was fresh and delicious. Blueberry Tart for dessert with a great coffee made for a most enjoyable early dinner.

This is a nice little restaurant in the down-town, and affords a good window view to people watch while nursing a glass of craft beer and nibbling on artisanal breads. We particularly enjoyed the pork belly on the dinner menu. The appetizer menu is quite varied and delicious!

We had a very enjoyable dinner. The soft pretzel was terrific and the charred escarole - excellent. We had wonderful cocktails - lemon drop and more. The chickpea stew was very nice and thrice cooked fries great. We also had the pork belly which was cooked to perfection. Overall - really nice, friendly service and low key. Very typical Portland.

Small dining area downstairs and larger area with a bar upstairs. Sat downstairs this time. It's a strange, quiet ambiance. Food was ok- not much flavor to our entrees (lobster melt and the duck dish). Not worth the price.

Wonderful meal as always, this time with the rillettes and blueberries, the grilled octopus and some fries.....
I indulged in one of their many interesting cocktails (or two), the Dodin, which was very well mixed.

Eastender is worth the visit. It's not fancy but thoughtfully creative. It's clear the chefs understand food chemistry, presentation and how to create winning combinations on the plate. We had the smoked pork belly rillettes and blueberry compote combination, which was exactly balanced and 'to die for', a fabulous Caesar with a perfect poached egg and a lobster melt with bacon jam, tomato and peppadew relish that was sinful. With a warm and welcoming staff, you can't go wrong.

The new and expanded dinner menu is fantastic. I had the grilled duck breast tartine with the sauerkraut, which is absolutely delicious and others at our table enjoyed the chicken breast and the burgers. The thing about East Ender is everything they do is full of interesting and subtle flavors. Really great. And the service is always wonderful as well. Very nice selection of beers and wines, perfect evening as always!
