We went for dinner on a Sunday night, so it was quiet, but I imagine it would be more lively on a Fri or Sat night. The service was very attentive without checking in on us too often. The burger and (triple fried!!) fries delicious and desserts were a great way to end the meal. The cocktail list is inventive with enough selection to find something for everyone. The space itself is cozy with exposed brick and a selection of booths and tables. Definitely worth a visit in a town with no shortage of amazing restaurants.
I have yet to have a disappointing experience at East Ender, everything is always perfect! Best flavors in Portland, broader menu now with also often interesting specials and always a warm welcome!
East Ender was a real find. In a town full of intriguing eating spots, I'm so glad we chose this place. The food lived up to the warm reviews and articles, and the service made the night even better. Delicious food and drinks for each of us, in an intimate setting, where we could hear each other without raising our voices. Superb service - informed, caring, personable - and great suggestions/advice. Would return in a heartbeat, and would try other dishes, except I'd probably still get the mussels again - omg, a generous serving, sooo good, with great garlic toast for broth-dipping. And the cavatelli with mushroom ragu. Ok, I'd just have the same things. I miss them already. We all left sated and grateful.
Best mussels I have ever had! Exceptional service, lovely ambience, perfect burger. I only wish we had saved room for dessert!
The food was amazing, but the wait staff was neglectful at best.
I was not impressed. The atmosphere and decor were great, but the service was lacking and the food was not the best. I had the homemade cavatelli-- very salty and the pasta itself was chewy. For $19 I would've expected much more. Our waitress was also not super attentive which was surprising considering there were maybe 3 occupied tables in the whole restaurant. It wasn't the worst dining experience I've ever had... it had potential... but it just was very underwhelming for the location/price.
Simply wonderful! And...They turned out 10 year old into a Brussels sprouts lover!
Fun spot- creative menu and cocktails, solid wine list.
Went to East Ender on a Friday night as part of a weekend Valentine's Day celebration. Great atmosphere, wonderful music, attentive waitstaff. The fish and chips were the best we've ever had. The dinner special was a seafood risotto which was wonderful as well. The olive oil cake is a must-have dessert!!
Great Valentine's Day dinner with a warm welcome as usual (and complimentary bubbly, thank you!), the specials were lightly fried smelts with a lime aioli and a delicious seafood saffron risotto. Everything was perfect, as usual, and service was unhurried, friendly and lovely. And... I almost forgot to mention the great profiteroles! Great early dinner before a local concert.
FABULOUS AS ALWAYS!!!! WILL DEFINITELY COME AGAIN!
I was really happy with this restaurant! We arrived a little late for our reservation and they had our table ready. Food was delicious and service was great.
Very good customer service. I would have liked to see more options in menu. For example soups, maybe with half sandwich just as an example.
It had been recommended to me so I brought some friends. My tikka chicken sandwich was pretty good but my friend ordered chicken salad and I thought it looked awful. Probably won’t go there again.
It was -10F that night so we went for the Maine Cassoulet and the night's special, a "porchetta", which was a pork tenderlion roulade in crackling pork belly (!) with chili, fennel, served with broccolini and grain grits. As usual, flavors were fantastic. With a side of the fried Brussels sprouts in chile lime vinaigrette, a perfect dinner for a very cold night. And as always, we received a very warm welcome and the service was lovely!
Cocktails were phenomenal, food was only okay. Atmosphere was beautiful.
We had reservations through open table for 3:15 ,restaurant closed at 3:30 today per listed hours ! We were the last group so had the place all to ourself - celebrating a late Christmas . We were not rushed , staff attentive , food delicious.
My second visit in 2 days was fabulous!!! Will be back soon again.
We stopped in Portland to break up a long road trip and needed a place for dinner. I made a reservation through the app day of, and chose wisely. We had the pork belly toast snack, two mains (chicken breast and cavatelli), olive oil cake, and 3 rounds of drinks (it was a long week of family visits). The bill was $150 after tip. Everything was excellent - can’t wait to go back! If I had to pick highlights, which is tough because the whole meal was a perfect date night, I would say: Lucien cocktail, pasta was perfectly done (says my Italian husband), sauce on the chicken, and the orange confit with the cake.
Had a good meal at the East Ender. Went rogue and had the brussel sprouts for an appetizer. I could have had them for every course and been happy. Had the fish and chips with spaghetti squash. Fish was yummy, but the coating a tad overdone. Chips were on point. Squash well spiced. It was a nice place for dinner, that had interesting options, that didnt break the bank. Kind of refreshing!
Very nice place. Had a drink at the upstairs bar and the special hot buttered rum concoction was delicious. Ate upstairs in a booth by the window. Had the pork belly appetizer and it was great, then the chickpea stew with chicken tikka. It was superb! The entire dinner with drinks came to $60, great value. They comped us two glasses of champagne for our anniversary.
Highly recommend this place.
This restaurant was recommended by friends. Well worth it. Friendly attentive staff and amazing food.
We really loved this place and thought the food was excellent! The service was good, but the servers were a little odd socially and not really very friendly. Otherwise, I'd highly recommend it!
This was our first time, and we loved it. Server was excellent- friendly and knowledgeable. Food was delicious. Ordering four appetizers/sides and no entree was enough for dinner for two. The fried brussels sprouts with chili-lime vinaigrette and mussels with coconut and lemongrass (and delicious grilled bread that the server generously replenished) were the standouts. Interesting drink list. We had a nice booth right near the front windows to watch the snow swirling outside. It was a great Saturday night experience.
The restaurant was cozy and inviting. Our table was ready when we got there. Each person in my party ordered something delicious and we loved it all!
East Ender has better flavors than anywhere in Portland, it's that simple. Grilled octopus, chick pea stew, revered fries, the incredible lobster melt.... They also expanded the menu with new offers like the Maine Cassoulet.... Add to this a great cocktail menu, wonderful friendly service without the attitude of some "bigger" names nearby...., and you have the perfect neighborhood restaurant, we will keep coming back and back again!
We liked the quiet cozy atmosphere, with a club feel. The lighting was perfect; not to low and not too bright. The food was tasty and the service friendly and quick. We want to return to try more menu items. We felt very well taken care of and though crowded, we could actually converse - rarity these days!
Staff was friendly and attentive. Decor was nice, there’s a downstairs and upstairs dining area. Pretzel was amazing but a bit small. Pickels were great! Was not a fan of my main dish, the fish and chips though. The fish was so rubbery and tough to my finding, and a bit over fried.
Excellent food, excellent service, excellent ambience for enjoying your table mates
Loved everything about this restaurant. Great atmosphere, friendly & knowledgeable servers, and delicious food. The mussels were some of the plumpest, most delicious I’ve ever had. I ordered the special - swordfish belly - and it was outstanding!
Always perfect, from the cocktails to the Brussels sprouts, wings, hake chowder....And service is fantastic. Our favorite neighborhood spot!
Fantastic - ambience was wonderful and food was fantastic. My husband had pork belly starter and duck appetizer and I had Octopus appetizer and Tunisian Chickpea Stew - all was incredible!
Great place for a catch up with an old friend. The staff was extremely friendly and didn't rush us. We both had the chickpea stew which was generous in terms of portion size and absolutely delicious!
We found the food to be just OK--baked goods struggled with texture. The waffle was too light with little substance. The doughnut was too think and brick-like. Flavors were better, but the service was a little surly and we didn't feel welcomed, even though they were not that busy.
Amazing service, wonderful people there and the food was beyond amazing. Quaint ambiance.
Absolutely excellent food, couldn’t be better, for a bar it boarders on sublime!
ps. Parking recommendation for outoftowners would be helpful
This experience left something to be desired. Food was just average and the atmosphere wasn't what I expected for my business guests. Perhaps this would be good for a drink or casual lunch with a friend.
We had dinner and the food was outstanding!
I had the pork belly with grits and my wife had the chicken. We both had the smoked hake soup, which we put at the top of our all time best courses!
Service was attentive and prompt.
Five and 1/2 stars! Go there if you can, you won’t be disappointed!
(As I write this we are back for the 3rd time having lunch.)
