Don't order tempura off the kids menu, it will come after everyone has finished their dinner, and your child will be in tears.....unless you order before you get.there. It is super tasty, but takes at least 40 min. Also noticed some of the rolls just aren't as good as they have been the past 15 years.....I hope that it isn't a new trend.
We had an early reservation prior to a concert & happened onto happy hour! Nice choices from the regular menu at happy hour prices! I love the teriditos! Sushi/ sashimi is always absolutely fresh. Reasonable choices of microbrew beers & wines by the glass & sake.
Most of my experience was ok coukd have been better. Food was not as expected. For a Friday night seems the sushi bar was very understaffed as well as the service staff took a while to get drinks and the order tajen not to mention the time it took 1 salmon skin roll. They are better equiped to provide sercive to partues no larger than 4. Shame because the firts experience I had was about a year ago and it was a little better than this one. Only because I truly belive that it was 2 of sutting at the sushi bar. I will still visit but only by sitting st the sushi bar since service their seems to be more of an express service.
We started the evening at East by Southwest but were surprised to see that the Pad Thai entree is now only served next door in their 'sister' restaurant, The Golden Triangle. Although the two restaurants seem to share a kitchen they would not serve Pad Thai at East by Southwest, probably in an effort to get more patrons into The Golden Triangle. So we enjoyed a sushi appetizer at E by SW then walked thru the hallway into The Golden Triangle to enjoy our Pad Thai entree! Seemed a little strange but we felt like we enjoyed a nice nite out at 2 enjoyable Asian restaurants. That being said, we were there early on a Wednesday evening. There were plenty of tables available at both restaurants. This option would certainly not be so convenient on a busy evening with limited table availability!
I had dinner reservations for four people at 5:30 on August 25th 2017. The food was excellent but the service well awful really doesn't cut it. We ordered our food and it was brought out in the most haphazard manner.
Everything started out okay. we received our appetizer and then shortly thereafter my out-of-town friend received her main course. That seemed odd to her and the rest of us since she also had ordered a salad. I then received my entree while our other companions continued to wait for their entree. Eventually their food arrived and we ate our meal. After that they finally brought out the oysters that we had ordered. Two of our dinner guests ordered another round of drinks. Our waitress brought the drinks and shortly thereafter handed us our check. She never asked us if we wanted coffee or dessert. While we were having our conversation and figuring out the bill she leaned in from the Little tea station area and said that there were two other groups waiting on this table.
We all looked at each other and our conversation after that had to do with whether we should cut the size of her tip and how incredibly rude that was. It wasn't our fault if scheduling wasn't done properly and not enough time was allotted between tables. We were so annoyed that we considered just sitting there and teaching the staff a lesson.
We discussed how this has never happened to us at any other restaurant and we generally spend two to three hours enjoying our meal and drinks leaving a generous tip behind. Never has the staff ever made us feel unwelcome the way your staff did this evening. It was move them in and move them out and if they're not moving out fast enough basically tell them to get out.
I think Ken and Sue's will be getting our business from now on. They never rushed us out the door.
Sincerely a very disappointed local guest
We were so disappointed with our meal here. We LOVE JAPANESE food and sushi so we were really looking forward to it. The server was inefficient and took one order wrong, which we corrected later with him. Then my main course, scallop and foie gras, arrived before the sashimi, sushi and other starters and got cold. It was also horrible, smothered in a sweet jammy pickle which drowned out the other flavours, and very small for a main course so we sent it back in exchange for teriyaki chicken. Can't go wrong, right? Wrong! The sauce was syrupy sweet. Meanwhile my husband's tempura was fatty and unpleasant too. The sushi roll and sashimi selection were both good.
The worst thing was how the staff handled our bad meal. They hid from us, did not apologise, did not bring us the complimentary candy floss which every other table had with their bill and made sure they did not speak to us, even to say goodbye, although they had made a point of showing every other diner out and saying goodbye.
I don't want to leave a great review, why? Because I still want to be able to eat here. Seriously, we have been telling our friends about the "best sushi" we have ever had in Durango, CO. I love this place and it's at the top of my list whenever we get to Durango. But be warned, this restaurant will ruin all other plain jane sushi restaurants for you. Go if you want to have the best sushi ever, stay away if you like your sushi with a side of boring.
I don't do negative reviews normally, however... I had checked this place out the day before to make sure it would be great to celebrate my sister 's birthday. My second experience (the party of 5) was abismal. Our server was clearly unprepared to serve. I'm not sure if she didn't get proper training, but it took so long to receive our drinks that my brother went to the bar to get his drink himself.
One entree came out before the appetizers (we never did receive one of our appetizers). The entrees came out at about 10 minute intervals. The carrot ginger bisque was amazing, unfortunately that was the only truly amazing food of the night.
The manager did come and attempt to help us out...he comped a couple of drinks and desserts. The mousse was yummy.
My question is, if management knew about our server not being ready for the job, why let her serve. Especially on a special occasion party.
Hire a bartender please. Ordered a margarita with silver patron, got a glass of well tequila and warm orange juice?
I knew at that moment, I was in trouble; thankfully I sat at the sushi bar where my server wasn't much of a detriment. Server missed half of our order, which proved to be beneficial as I just enjoyed more salmon belly.
The salmon belly sashimi was great, highly recommend it. The octopus 'won tons" were sensory overload with a bout of extra chewy.
Overall, pretty decent; but I'd have been better off staying on site at the Sky Ute casino and having had a steak at Seven Rivers steak house.
