East - Blockade Runner Beach Resort
Excellent outdoor seating while listening to the ocean.
We were hesitant due to mix reviews but we loved the location and the menu so decided to give it a try. We are very glad we did! Sat outside under a beautiful tent, lovely lighting, landscaping, lawn then ocean. What’s not to love. We had the chicken pho and a parpadelle dish which they added grilled shrimp to at my husbands request. Both were excellent. Wine was love,y. Ocean breeze and setting. We are going back again before we leave Wrightsville and bringing our daughter and son in law. PS. Sit outside. Lighting is odd in indoor area as noted in some other reviews.
Flies and clouds of midges outside. Less than fun.
Great food prepared by a very talented chef.
Terrible service, everything took way too long since the servers station seems to be on the other side of the hotel. Waited 20 for water and 15 for drinks. Food was excellent.
Expensive. Waitress forgot half of what we ordered.
This is a hotel restaurant with bright dentist office lightning and friendly rookie college kid servers
Food is good but don't think this is a fine dining location. Nice live vocal music but not one of the top restaurants in Wilmington. I've added this to our list of the restaurants never to visit again.
I absolutely love this place, the menu and the service! Wow!
Bad music in pool area.
Service and food is exceptional. Enjoyed 2 meals here while on vacation. The vegetables are perfectly cooked. Everything is hot when it is served. Well done
This was our first opportunity to visit the Blockade Runner and its Oceanfront Dining area since we moved to Wilmington in 2018. The setting is lovely and the cuisine was enjoyable but the service, we are sad to say, left much to be desired. For the price range of this venue one should expect excellence in that regard but, in our experience at least, this was lacking.
The separate pool bar area looked attractive and might be a better bet for drinks, appetizers and live entertainment when offered -- but for dining we'll be back at the consistently good Oceanic.
Good lunch place, but too bright for dinner. Lighting was harsh for dinner
Staff very friendly and helpful. Meal was delicious
I had a perfect brunch with friends on my birthday. It was our first time at Blockade Runner & we will be back soon. The gardens are extraordinary & the peacefulness was greatly appreciated.
As a father of 4, date night is rare for me and my wife. We were seated at a 6 top for just the 2 of us. The manager then try to talk us into consider an inside table after our reservation was for outside. It took 35 minutes before a server helped us. It took another 1/2 hour before our drinks were brought out. My wife’s dinner was wrong two times. Overall it was a horrible, horrible experience and the manger wouldn’t comp our meal (although it was only salads and drinks). Terrible experience. We will continue to share our poor experience with others.
We didn’t have a server come to our table for almost 20 minutes. It wasn’t until after I went to the hostess stand to ask that someone came, but still not for another five minutes.
Poor, poor service..... :o(
Lazy waiter, wrong orders, no regrets... :o(
Food was good though, but the ‘service’ experience ruined the overall impression
Beautifully landscaped gardens and lawn....Ocean breeze... and delicious food! Can’t beat it! For a weekend away, all you have to do is take the elevator from your room....meet in the garden...walk to your table for dinner. Heaven.
Cool beach front atmosphere. Great service. Food was fantastic. This is really a hidden gem on Wrightsville Beach.
Went for Sunday Brunch. Restaurant said we could valet, but valet said no. We eventually were honored but it was Memorial Day weekend and beach was busy. Not enough parking in Wrightsville beach due to having elected a real estate developer as Mayor. The town does not have enough parking. Food was awesome- not a huge buffet but wonderful and tasty. Desserts and breads available like bagels and toast were uninspired and from a truck. No carved meats but short rib hash, waffles, homemade omelette and eggs Benedict’s were excellent. They also had plenty of fruit and smoked lox. Bagels are weak. Roasted beet and goat cheese salad was off the chart.
Service was good if not a little young-it is a college town but F&B Director needs to work more on budgeting numbers. Brunch was $18 and a simple Bloody Mary and like minded cocktails were $17! That’s right $17 for wells! No bartender and waitstaff was making drinks. No one was ordering drinks. They are losing money hand over fist in their beverage program. We ordered 2 bottles of Wycliffe California Brut for $28 each which was not a bad price. Menu listed it as champagne. It’s technically not but whoever wrote menu must have figured the clientele would not be so quick to catch on. Place was busy and we were one of the only tables drinking. So much potential revenue lost:( charge $8-$10 dollars a bloody and they’d be flying off the shelf. F&B also needs to train staff on wine service. The waitress was sweet and a little busy, but brought our Brut out in 2 separate wine buckets with no ice(who does that?) and did ask me when I ordered it that if it was Ok if they screw top bottles. I said yes please just bring them. She must have misunderstood me and just brought me the bottles and left without offering to open. I opened and served my guests myself. There was no way we were paying $17 for a bloody. Wine service training would be nice.Overall the experience was good and the food was excellent but F&B needs help! Stop gouging
This place was absolutely incredible It is by no means a cheap night out but all things considered the food the beautiful setting the knowledgeable friendly service it is a fanatic experience. Our server Sarah was very impressive she was full of personality knew the menu as if she was the chef herself and very attentive to our needs. 5 star fine dining at an oceanfront table with great food and service made for a special evening and one to remember Highly recommend !
Awful food and service
They should not be open and accepting reservations.
Got there and no parking. Had to park on street and pay meter. They don’t honor open table reservations so we had no reservation. They did find us a table but thought was odd they don’t use open table and yet I made the reservation through the app. This was s Mother’s Day breakfast:brunch and I was a bit disappointed. Still love blockade runner resort though.
The Easter brunch was expensive, but would have been fine if the food had been up to par. The two “star” meats, ham and prime rib, had very little flavor. Usually those are the items you remember most about a brunch. And to top it off, a 20% tip was automatically added to our bill. Don’t remember seeing this up front when I looked at the menu. Next time we will go elsewhere.
On another note, we did feel that the renovations due to the hurricane did a lot for the Blockade Runner.
Beautiful restaurant with fantastic servers; can't say enough about them. Food varied a little between our group of 5; most rated their dinners highly but my mushroom dish had leaves (beets, I think) that were stringy and inedible. Clam chowder, fried cauliflower, and seafood pasta all received high marks. the restaurant includes lots of glass, tile, and metal, so the noise level was high for our group's elderly ears.
I regret that I cannot in honesty recommend this dining to others. The staff was very friendly and professional but the food over priced and mediocre. It almost appears as if their choices are too trendy for the preparation. It has a lovely location so it is a shame that the food does not come up to par. We have dined there previously and it was much better. Too bad, as this time we had out of town quests.
Waited an hour for sandwiches
The food is very good - great variety, well presented and innovative recipes. Everything tastes really good.
The music on 3/24 was very good - we really enjoyed the performer.
Our server Sara was very nice and attentive to our needs.
We would recommend to others.
The drinks before dinner were awesome with a great bartender.
The server at dinner was very inexperienced. I asked for fish special well done, which it was not. Good taste to the fish, but when I said it was not cooked enough, she said "sorry" and took it away. The other person had a vegetarian option which was good.
Convenient if you're staying in the hotel.
The restaurant was a bit of a disappointment. While the view was quite lovely, the menu choices were not very extensive, and the quality of the food was not at all commensurate with the prices -- more than $20 for what amounted to a grandiosely-named but quite ordinary cheeseburger and fries, and $25 for a bowl of tom kha that was on a par with what one could get for $8 at any thai restaurant. We ordered white wine, and just from the color that I saw in the liquid as the waiter approached I knew that it had turned. A quick taste confirmed it. Perhaps I'm too snobbish, but at a restaurant of this calibre and price range, I would have thought it more appropriate to pour a bit for tasting before offering up two full glasses.
The server was very polite and congenial, but we had to send back a salad that had the wrong dressing added on (after we'd asked to have it on the side, no less), and the tom kha that I ordered with chicken arrived sans chicken. By that point, we were more interested in finishing the meal and leaving than in giving the chap any more grief. We still left an appropriate tip because he was trying hard, and as mentioned, quite polite.
I had been looking forward to treating my visiting colleagues to a fine dining experience by the seaside, but while we had the seaside, one of my colleagues noted later that the dinner itself was not so much as it was a particularly pricey Applebees menu.
The ceviche was awful it does not resembles a real ceviche.
Great family and couples dining. There are many cozy nooks as well as large family tables to accommodate many types of groups
Overall the food was not worth mentioning along with the ambience considering it’s one of the nicer restaurants on the beach. The outdoor seating is probably the highlight and the menu has good intentions but a little lack luster with execution. I do have to give credit to our exceptional server who despite being relatively new went out of his way with service. Cheers Kyle !!!
The food was very good. I had the Seabass on special with freekah and Mediterranean vegetables. I enjoyed the fish, it was cooked perfectly and the freekah/quinoa combo was excellent. My date enjoyed the scallops but wasn't overly impressed with the preparation. We also tried the roasted bone marrow and that was interesting. The preparation had great flavors. The big downer for the evening was the ambiance. There were several very noisy tables inside and folks were dressed in shorts and t-shirts. We would have loved to eat outside but it was just too humid and hot. The inside atmosphere was too casual and diner-like for the quality and price of the entrees. The restaurant and dinner selections are advertised as more of an up-scale, semi-formal type of dinner and the attire and atmosphere should match--the prices certainly do!
The ambiance and service was very good. The food was ok and definitely not worth the price.
Staying at the blockade runner resort, we thought we’d dine at the restaurant instead of dealing with the wait at tower 7 or other place on Wrightsville beach. While the dining room is well appointed, it is kinda large and lacks ambience without being filled with people. But the outside patio is very nice and gives you a comfortable beach environment. We had a beautiful night out and the food blew away our exoectations. From steak to a creative italian pasta and the Asian ramen dish, they were all well presented and flavorful. Paired it all with some good wine and great and friendly service from Samm (with two m’s) . Great time finished with cocktails at the bar. If you are looking for a relaxed and satisfying evening with great food and drinks, this is a fantastic choice.
Wow... what a grand dining experience. Everything was perfect. It was a lovely evening so we had a table outside closest to the garden. The service was excellent. The menu had interesting and different offerings. But best of all the food - just incredible. Excellent combination of food and seasoning pairings. Presentation was exquisite. If you are looking for a special evening out for date or occasion, this is it. Just delightful in every way.
We ate outside and the grounds are absolutely gorgeous. My husband had fresh tuna and I had a crabcake, both were excellent. Highly recommend.
