An outstanding, Michelin-noted restaurant but, it seems, too posh (and expensive?) for the East Village. We were a party of four last night and there was only one other patron all the time we were there, from 7:45 to 9:30. The hostess said the restaurant would be moving to 57th & Third. We'll be sorry to see them go.

Whenever we are in NYC, we have been clients of East 12th Osteria for 1.5 years. The italian food is superb. Truffles are wonderful during the season. There is also a good wine list. Service is impeccable and very friendly. Beside that it has an excellent price quality ratio.

This is the fourth time I've eaten here this year and the fourth terrific meal I've had there. The decor is lovely, food is excellent and consistent, great service, good wine selection and I particularly love the bread basket (my downfall).

Wow!! Giselle and the team are amazing, so friendly and welcoming. The food is terrific and seasonal. The room could be called subtly chic. I'll go back to the food. Listen carefully to the specials as there are some real gems. We will definitely go back!!

Brought out of town friends and they, too, were pleased with the menu - fish, fowl and meat prepared in a style reminiscent of Alto Adige. Lengthy wine list, possibly overloaded with nebbiolo wines.

This restaurant is one of my favorites in the East Village - the food is consistently excellent, service is very friendly and efficient, and the space is intimate without being crowded. Great wine choices.

Excellent food and excellent service. I have been meaning to try this neighborhood restaurant for a while. I finally went with a couple of friends and truly enjoyed it. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly and explained the dishes to us we shared a couple of appetizers and then shared three entrées so that we had a taste of different things. Everything was wonderful

Every table in the restaurant was occupied but there were only two waiters so service was slow. Menu options were understandably limited due to it being Thanksgiving. Meat and fish were well prepared by side dishes were so-so. Given the cost, we were expecting better.

Celebrated my 21 birthday here and boy was it disappointing. Showed up 10 minutes early for my reservation and was told by a server ? " you're 10 minutes early" Well okay.... we still ended up waiting 15-30 past our reservation times before we were seated. The lovely host actually comped our table a round of drinks but the service of everyone else was actually dreadful. We asked for bread half an hour after we place our order and the same server replies " we don't buy our breads from outside , everyone waits for our bread" but the table next to us got their bread within 10 minutes and their main course before us even when we were seated much earlier than they were. And the wait began. What was originally a 8:45 reservation, we did not receive our main course until after 11. Little to no service for their waiters never bothered to touch table. When we finally received our food we just wanted to finish and get out. After we paid and the server saw the 22% percent tip my generous boyfriend decided to leave, we were greeted the first time the whole night by this server with a good attitude. After 2 dreadful hours, upon receiving the tip, they decided to apologize about the wait time and comps us a dessert. The comping of items was definitely not worth the wait time. The restaurant is fairly small and it wasn't even a full house that night. Will definitely not be going back.

Amazing dinner at East 12th Osteria! It was a bit pricier than I'd anticipated but well worth it. Expect to spend around $100/person if you go for appetizers and pasta; we didn't even venture into the main courses. My husband had two glasses of wine and I stuck with sparkling water, as a reference point. We will absolutely be back! The restaurant is a little jewel box, the food was outstanding and the service was wonderful. This restaurant reminded us a lot of an upscale restaurant we went to in Rome - absolutely no rush, and a relaxed waitstaff who let us take our time. As a total side note, their coffee is amazing!

I was really excited to try this place after reading all the sterling reviews. It's a pretty restaurant, and the music and noise level is pleasant and conducive to having an audible conversation. The apps are pretty pricey here. I think the Roasted Octopus was almost $20. But this was the best part of the meal. It was the most delicate, moist, delicious octopus we've ever tasted. My wife and I opted to split everything; we also ordered the avocado and artichoke salad, which was pretty bland and disappointing for around $15. Then we shared the Black Angus Bolognese--this was also disappointing... not much sauce, and the chunks of meat were not very tender. But the topper was the waiter. Most of the servers seemed pretty stiff; we tried to get our waiter to lighten up a little, but when he served the divided pasta dish, he actually said to us, "this is the last time the chef will split an entree for you. Next time you each order one." I forgot to mention that we also drank over $50 of wine. Our bill before tip was about $120. I will never return to this restaurant, after being told we apparently didn't order enough. You've got to be kidding me. This is why people are not going out as much anymore.

But it is a great place for a special occasion as well. Inventive yet authentic menus, brunch options on the weekends, great wine list, such a surprising treasure of a restaurant. Portions are satisfying, staff is pleasant and polite, tables and seating are comfortable and in such a bustling location it is a haven of comfort. My second time here and already planning the next visit (and the next, and the next...).

Nice space, but very loud with open windows and traffic noise. Superb food from top to bottom. Food service spectacular and wine service less knowledgeable. Perhaps the best quality to price ratio for fine Italian dining we've ever encountered!!!

We live around the corner from this wonderful eatery. We were dining with old friends and had wonderful, very helpful and knowledgeable service, timed beautifully. The food was fresh, innovative and delicious. The restaurant had white and black truffle-themed specials of which there were many. It was a very comfortable and stylish setting. The chairs were really comfortable--something I've noticed has gone by the wayside in favor of style. I've been to a few new restaurants lately that had such uncomfortable (cheap!) yet trendy chairs or stools (hate them!) that I couldn't wait to finish my meal!

We had a 6:15 reservation, the place was empty when we got there. The host insisted on seating us at the 1st table by the front door. Every other table we asked for was for other reservation or he had other plans. 20 minutes later, guests for a large party started to arrive. Instead of sitting down, everyone was just standing in the room talking loudly. Unfortunately, we were seated right in the middle of this action. I could not hear myself talking never mind to my family and the food was extremely slow consider the large party had not started. Other than us, there were only 2 more couples on the other side of the room so there was no reason for us to wait for this long. If we were seated on the other side of the room, at least we could have a conversation. As for food, my gnocchi was mushy, my son's tagliolini was extremely greasy. Anyway, by the time we left, the other half of the restaurant was still half empty. We could easily be seated away from the large party and not getting hot wind each time the door opened. Either the host hates opentable guests or being greedy wishful hoping to fit more guests, we had a very unpleasant night because of that.
