Earls Kitchen + Bar - Downtown Denver Ratings and Reviews
My 25 year old son chose it for a special occasion and invited 2 friends. He enjoyed it as did his friends.
I thought the food was bland. Asked for hot sauce for the guacamole appetizer and had to wait a long time for it. They weren't even busy at that point.
The dessert menu is not very inspiring. We ordered one thing to share but would have done 2 if there were more or better options.
I chose the restaurant because it took lunch reservations and I was on a tight schedule. Meeting some friends who had moved to Denver, the restaurant was close to my hotel. The food choices were excellent——from traditional bar fare to some rather creative dishes. The only drawback is the noise level. We were talking over everyone else and the music. Other than that, it was enjoyable.
Made it in time for happy hour - ordered Green Dragon roll, queso fundido dip, and the Jamaican Jerk Chicken. There were very generous portions of all three - they were very tasty and quite enough for two people to share. We also ordered beverages - Moscow Mule and a Tito's martini with a lemon twist. The drinks were a disappointment. The Moscow Mule cup was mostly ice and had about a 1/4 cup of beverage. The martini was below the half mark of the martini glass. I'd definitely go back to try other menu items as I think the kitchen does a great job. Next time, we'll stick with beer - at least they get close to the top of the pint glass....
Seated quickly but waited awhile for drinks. Ordered two sushi appetizers only to be told they were out of sushi. Ordered meals, didn't see server for long time. Reordered drinks finally. Food was good overall. Our waitress changed in us but nobody told us, noted our waitress sitting at the bar. The new waitress got us excited about the sticky toffee pudding cake, which we ordered. She returned later to say they were out if that dessert, out of the featured dessert, and that they wouldn't be making anymore desserts. It was a late dinner, but before close and there were several other tables seated after us. Disappointed that half of what we wanted to order wasn't available and service was lacking. We went there because it was highly rated, but definitely didn't meet our expectations.
My husband an I were celebrating our anniversary, had thought originally this was a more intimate scene. Very loud and open, not much to be tucked away for a quiet dinner. Service was extraordinarily slow. Our server must've had a 7 table section as she was in and outside having difficulty juggling so many. Food took 30 minutes or so to arrive, two medium steaks. Dinner tasted ok, nothing too spectacular and my steak was over cooked and our potatoes room temp. Server was very nice, despite not being able to be very attentive. Would not attend again.
So, I was worried about the noise level, because several reviews had complained about it being too loud. We were seated upstairs in a semi-open area, which was lovely. Noise was definitely not a problem. Cocktails were great. They use those large ice cubes, which are so nice. But I cannot say we were impressed with the food, aside from the sushi appetizers we ordered. There isn't a lot of choice in the sushi, but what we had was delicious, and a very generouse serving. Fish and chips was waaaaay over-battered. Tacos were tired out, and tortilla itself was tough and chewy. Salads were just average. One of us did order a noodle bowl, and frankly, that seemed like the best thing on the menu.
The appetizers and food was very good. However, the service was slow. The waitress was great but the place was understaffed. We loved the upstairs open windows for people watching. The table, however, had not been properly washed. So, it was a moderate experience. Good value.
Went to Earl's the other night and had a decent dinner. The food is okay, nothing special. The sticky toffee pudding is more like a chocolate cake than sticky toffee pudding. The most irritating of all is that the restaurant marked us in Open Table as a no-show but had no trouble charging my credit card. Hmm, if I wasn't there, how did they charge my credit card?
Haven't been to Earl's in a little while. It really seems as if the servers don't really want to be there. Not a smile on anyone's face. Looking over you instead at you when taking orders. That just appears "affected" to me. I will be in no rush to come back.
I've been to Earl's on a few occasions and have enjoyed the precious experiences. They always make good cocktails and the food is typically good quality. We went this past Friday and had a not so good experience. The restaurant was not packed and yet we waited 15 min to have our drinks delivered. The quality of the food was not there this time. And we had to adjust our order a few times after being told they did not have a key ingedient available in our orders.
I would probably still go to Earl's in the future if it happens by convenience.
The bar type food was fine. Colleague ordered a medium rare steak that came out lathered in salt and nearly well done. Her sides were clearly reheated from frozen. Waitress didn't bat an eye when asking if she wanted a box. For a meal she barely touched. I might go back for a beer, but not for dinner.
Had dined at the Park Meadows location previously but not downtown Earls. Went knowing the menu is good with lots of choices. Past experience had been quality food, well prepared and attractively served. That was the case with the 16th Street Mall location. Our dinner was excellent and our server Casandra was attentive. Enjoyed the meal and would recommend it for anyone dining downtown that wants a quality meal and experience,
4 of us there and the food came out 10 minutes apart. Awkward. The food that came out first was cold and one of them one was raw. And the kicker....our waitress literally disappeared. At the first sign of an issue she was GONE. Never saw her again. Other people delivered our food and even though they comp'd a couple things there was still a bill for >$100. And no apology from anyone. None. Really?? This is the first bad review I've ever done and it's disappointing. I've been here 5 or 6 times and it was good but expensive and I will never come back. Just terrible, don't waste your money people.
