The restaurant was packed. It was Valentine's weekend but no excuse for very slow service and mediocre food. We waited 25 minutes for our cocktails.
Except for a hiccup with a bad wine, which they took care of immediately, always a pleasure dining here.
I love the atmosphere here but yet again was not blown away by anything. We had a reservation for the bar but ended up waiting 20 minutes and being reseated in the back room which was not what we planned on. I was a little surprised they didn’t ask our preference on this before just moving us. Once we were seated, the waiter immediately came over but that was the fastest he moved all night. Our water glasses were perpetually empty, drinks from the bar took ages, he brought out a couple of dishes before they were ready to be served. Managers were visible but never made a trip to our table. We kept normalizing everything as it was happening so it didn’t ruin the evening but the second we walked out of the restaurant we were in disbelief at our experience.
I have always enjoyed E&O, which is why I chose it for a dinner out with friends. Last night was frustrating & disappointing. I feel that the employees were very green because I can’t think of any other reason. Our waitress repeatedly disappeared for long periods of time, then reappeared with excuses. Our friend had to get up to find her & ask what was going on. I completely understand that they ran out of the wine we were drinking, but choosing to have the manager search for it for 40 minutes without checking in was ridiculous. When it came time for the bill, we waited to request it, then a SUPER long amount of time for her to bring the checks back to the table to sign. Again, a few of the ladies in our party had to go search for her. She said that she was trying to collect enough bill holders for our party of eight?! One of our friends wanted to order sushi to take home to her husband, which was no longer an option at this point, so she asked the sushi bar on our way out. She mentioned the poor service when they questioned why she hadn’t ordered at the table. The manager came over & said something along the lines of: Oh, you were that table, the one that I had to search for the wine, then didn’t want the $84 bottle I suggested. Are you kidding me?! Completely unacceptable response. It was our fault that you ran out after two bottles, then decided to search for it forever without coming back to the table with comparable alternatives? Investing in professional & properly trained employees (as you’ve had in the past) would go a long way. There is simply no excuse for the despicable level of service we experienced last night.
Perfect place for a date. Food was amazing. Atmosphere was super comfortable.
We had a great meal - the food was absolutely delicious and $6 for a giant bowl of edamame is a great deal! It was very busy so we were understanding, but we did have to ask for a high chair three separate times before one was finally brought out to our table even though it was included in the reservation comments. Other than that the service was good and the food is great!
We loved it.
Excellent food and a wide variety of choices. The atmosphere was trendy. The restaurant was full but it was still easy to hear everyone at the table talking.
The food and service were great! But the exhaust in the kitchen was broken the night I came, causing the restaurant to fill with smoke. Food took a while to come out as well, probably due to the exhaust issue. However, I’d give it another try in the future!
Nate was a great waiter; food and as delicious, especially the brussels sprout salad and Nutella beignets!
Excellent drinks and service at the bar while waiting for our table. Food was fantastic.
We very much enjoyed the ambiance, the service and the food. I woudl suggest having some salt and pepper on the table for those of us that enjoy a little more spice.
We had an outstanding experience. We heard their brunch was good so we thought we’d give it a try one Sunday. I ordered the avocado toast and my husband ordered the special, Tres Leches French Toast. Both were excellent. Mine came w a side salad that I found too spicy and although that was how it was supposed to be prepared, it caught me by surprise. When the server noticed I hadn’t eaten it, I explained. She immediately replaced it with another salad with a non spicy dressing. Also, our table was directly under the music speaker making it hard to hear. I asked her if she could turn it down a notch and she did so happily. Then, there was some confusion over my husband’s order which didn’t come out when mine did. They didn’t charge him for it, even though we didn’t complain or expect that.
This is a friendly restaurant that is willing to make sure everything is to your liking. That attitude coupled with the truly wonderful food makes this place a winner! Can’t go wrong. We will be back and highly recommend E & O to anyone!! I haven’t had service and food both that good at one place in a long time.
Impeccable service! Our server showed genuine interest in making our dining experience outstanding.
The food is pretty good. The service is NOT. I've been a few time and it's always the same. I may be done with this place. Food isn't so good to overcome the bad experience.
My family and I had NYE 2020 dinner here since this spot is a family favorite. Ordered our usual crispy Brussels sprouts salad, pork belly bun, edamame and the tempura chicken bowl. All items were DELICIOUS as usual!! But, I highly recommend that you try everything they offer before sticking to your go-to dish. 😊
While we wait (forever?) for the downtown location to open...we enjoyed a great meal in Hyde Park.
They were out of guacamole, but all the other dishes were terrific.
It’s a shame you have to walk the servers’ line through the kitchen to get to get to the back dining room! A little design work would really pay off.
Solid restaurant. Asian type menu. Food well prepared
Slow service. Waitstaff was very busy and had trouble timing our orders
Fried Kayle salad shushi rolls and pork bowl. All very good. Wine list could use a bit more selections
Make sure you get the Brussel sprout salad. I know, I know - I never was a big fan of the little green stink bombs as a kid either, but they flash fry them and you WILL love it!
We ordered a bunch of small plates and everything was delicious
Food was awesome and reasonably priced. Will be returning to try more dishes. Atmosphere was beautiful - live plant wall in the back! Staff were all friendly, Geddy treated us marvelously!
Really good sushi. With for my birthday and don't regret anything about. Food excellent service even better
Bathrooms were extremely dirty, soy sauce was used on a appetizer plate and service was slow. Usually I’m more impressed. Sadly the best part was wine and that is because the option we wanted was no longer available and had to choose a more expensive one.
Phenomenal food and service!
Service and food was fantastic. We got the pork belly sticky buns and I’m still thinking about them. Sushi rolls were delicious and the menu offered more unique items other “sushi” spots.
While the food was OK, nothing else went well. Extremely noisy, inexperienced waitress to start off. Drinks arrived slowly, one by one for our party of four. We ordered two appetizers , one for each couple, and the second one didn’t arrive until we chased down an assistant manager. The bill was incorrect and eventually they did give us a credit for some of the cost. All in all a frustrating experience and not what we would expect from E&O based on past visits there.
Every successful restaurant should have a signature dish or two that are crave worthy. A few weeks or months after my last visit here, I start thinking about the shaved Brussels sprouts salad and the Ahi Tuna Poke appetizer, neither of which I would have a clue how to make at home. So I return for these tried and true favorites and they never disappoint! Add a Mas Sake roll and you’ve got an excellent meal for two.
Thank you for your glowing review, Gigi! We look forward to seeing you again soon!
I have been there previously and the food and service were great. But this visit was disastrous. We were seated and waited over 1 1/2 hours and still did not have dinner. We had appetizers and drinks, but no dinner. We were given many different excuses as to the delays, but still no food. We asked for a bill and the manager finally came by and competed our bill. We went elsewhere for dinner.
Food was good but the service was horrible. Appetizer came after meal. Was told by the waiter they had to make a To go order so mine would be awhile! Had to ask for drinks multiple times.
They ran out of wine glasses, which I thought was a little odd for a Saturday night. But all in all it was great, as usual.
The brussel sprouts & kale salad is to die for and the salmon and asparagus was delicious. Our server was attentive and ensured we got the check in time to be off to the theatre! The only negative was that it was a bit loud and the tables were very close together.
This was a lovely restaurant with terrific food. I would have given it five stars, but our service was very slow. I believe there was only one server in the restaurant at the time that we were there and they were busy. She was lovely, but no one could have kept up with all of those tables on their own. Due to the number of customers, our server had a difficult time being attentive and people were clearly irritated. I would definitely go back, but I would hope that they make sure they have enough help.
The food was outstanding! Unfortunately the service is some of the worst I have ever received. Rachel T was our server, after receiving our food she never once stopped by to see if everything was ok or if we needed anything. Our drinks stayed empty throughout the entire meal without her ever asking if we would like another one. Food was great but we won’t be back
Amazing lomi lomi! Ordered a second portion after we inhaled the first one. Had to send tofu tacos back, soggy and lacked flavor. They took off our bill and gave us free dessert. Great dinners. Amazing brussel sprouts salad.
This was once one of our favorite places, but it has turned downward over the last year. At our last visit, the service has finally become unbearably slow. An hour to get a sushi roll? Longer than that to get one order of chicken tacos? And then another 20 minutes to get the second order of tacos that was ordered at the same time? And they were mostly empty.
The quality of the food has diminished. Our gyoza was burned on one side. The sushi was a mushy, tiny mess. The tacos just didn’t have the pop they used to have. The lime slices provided with them looked ready for the trash. It’s pretty easy to compare the food across time because the menu has been pretty static.
We were sat near the bar and could see that the bartender wasn’t busy, yet it took 30 minutes to get our first round of drinks. Because of that we didn’t order a second round. I will never understand restaurants tolerating a slow bar. That’s where you make all your money. Get the product on the table and sell more. It’s bar 101.
The interior of this restaurant is hip and beautiful. Very California-feeling. Love it. Except for all of the big screen TV’s playing football right in your face. Guys, you are not a sports bar. You are a place that should be great for romantic dates and upscale get-togethers. You are too cozy for big screen TV’s playing sports. It’s discounts your ambiance.
I hate to say it, but it feels like a restaurant that the owner doesn’t care about anymore. Maybe they think the lack of other options in Hyde Park plaza will keep them going, but I would point to Teller’s recent departure as a warning. Great location isn’t enough to survive poor food and service in Hyde Park. It’s not that far to better options.
We love E+O! Moved to Cincinnati 2 months ago from CA by way of E Tenn and the last thing I thought I’d find here was really great sushi rolls. Combined with a fusion menu that is amazing and excellent cocktails too, we’re hooked. During this meal we ended up sitting at a high top right under a corner speaker, so it was a little loud, but past meals have been at the main bar and dining room, and ambiance/noise was very comfortable. Keep up the great work E+O, can’t wait to be back...
The starters, small plates, sushi, and beignets were excellent. The main dishes were average. The fried rice main dish was predominantly rice and very little meat. The ramen was bland. Our server was nice, but it took some time to get service.
