About Dyrons Low country

Dyron Powell and his wife Sonya love to travel. Over ten years ago, they were fortunate enough to happen upon the lowcountry of South Carolina and Georgia. There they found relaxed lifestyles combined with one-of-a-kind culinary tastes. In their opinion, it is the greatest place on earth to slow down and enjoy great food and great friends.

Joined by Executive Chef, Randall Baldwin, they opened Dyron’s Lowcountry Restaurant in Mountain Brook to share their love for the culinary offerings of the region. It’s a place for those who have been to revisit their memories and refresh their pallets and a place for those who have never been to get an authentic taste of the unique foods.

We have dined at Dyrons Low Country several times over the years. We tend to go for special occasions because it is such a special place, but I also have a casual dinner out with friends and family too! This is just a great all around place. Very nice restaurant with just wonderfully delicious food, the wait staff is top notch, the ambiance is just right not too casual but not too fancy. We always look forward to a dinner out at Dyrons.

It's rare that I can check "fit for foodies" and "comfort food" when rating the same restaurant! But, this place has pretty much the entire range. If you want fried chicken or even a cheeseburger, it's there. If you want something a little more upscale, you have plenty of choices there as well, particularly with the options for dishes featuring fish.

It can get rather loud; don't go if you're set on a quiet atmosphere. But, that one warning aside, it's a great place.

Sat outside and noise level lower than inside! Not as crowded as normal I guess due to football Saturday night! Food seemed a little off as well as the service! Asked for gravy on side and not acknowledged as well as another guest in party requested no oysters on seafood plate! Both were stated by server no problem but not served as requested! No acknowledgement of mistake! I usually have no problems at this restaurant. As stated was an odd, off night!

We were promptly seated in a nice, enclosed patio area where the tables were well spaced and conversation easy. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful, while not intrusive or obsequious. Our waiter waited to clear plates until we were both finished with a course, confirming that we were ready, which is just as I like it. He tended our wine glasses properly.
Wine and starters came out soon enough, but the main plates took a while, not just for us but for other diners as well. The couple next to us were there when we arrived, and while they apparently ordered steaks, a simple enough dish, got their dinners after ours came out. Not the fault of the wait staff, I suspect, but more a possibly understaffed kitchen who prepared things as they were to be served. The upside of that is that nothing had sat on a warming shelf; everything was freshly prepared and plated, and presented at a perfect temperature.
The star of the evening was the food. My fried chicken was the best I've eaten, and the fresh field peas were only cooked enough to make them tender, so they retained their earthy and herbally nature. My mac and cheese was wonderful, but too rich for me to eat much of it, given the other things we had on our plates. My date's pork scaloppini was a little heavily breaded, but she said the taste and texture grew on her, and she ate every bite. Her sides, a creamed corn mixture and, especially, the sauted okra and tomatoes, were outstanding. We had started with the charcuterie plate and fried okra. Both were wonderful, but that was too much food. We should have shared one or the other. Portions were generous. We had no room for desert. The wine list, at least on the red side, seemed to feature pinot noir, which probably best suited most of the items on the menu, and had more than just the usual suspects. Wine pricing was pretty standard. The food prices seemed more than fair.

Visited Dyron's for Sunday Brunch. I had reservations at 12:45 pm. We were seated promptly upon arrival. The restaurant was quite busy with the after church crowd. There were five in my reservation celebrating my Mothers 76th birthday. Overall excellent experience. The food was delicious. We enjoyed beef tenderloin, snapper on bed of arugula with peaches and figs, crab omelet with cheesy grits, fried chicken, gumbo, and shrimp and grits. I also thought the price of approx. $30 each was very reasonable. I would highly suggest the snapper and omelet. Only negative was the okra in the gumbo was still crunchy. Not the way we like it in the South<:)

First timer and will definitely go back. The food was very good. Baked oysters appetizer was not the best ever but very tasty. We had the shrimp and grits. Nothing like the traditional dish but was very delicious. (We shared the entrée for the additional $5 and still had plenty to eat.) Our desert was the white chocolate bread pudding. Again, it wasn't what I'd consider to be traditional but was delicious! The worse thing about our dinner was the loud group of people also seated in the porch area. At times my friends and I couldn't carryon a conversation. I highly recommend sitting inside unless you are in a loud partying mood.

We live close to dyrons and love the ability to go early, have a great meal with great service..my husband loves thr gumbo and I can never decide between their great selection of raw oysters, the crab claws, and the fried okra when it's on the menu.....this time my husband had snapper and I had rainbow trout and both were delicious...mine was set up on vegetable succotash of baby limas, sweet corn and tomatoes and the snapper was on delicious grits...

So glad to have this great restaurant in Crestline.

The staff was thoughtful and thorough. The food outstanding. Even with a big crowd on a Friday we did not have a long wait for the appetizer nor the entreés. The whole experience was a pleasant surprise. My wife and I think we've found our new "favorite place" so we'll be back.

I've been to Dyron’s several times, and despite the high prices, it is one of my favorite restaurants because of the great southern cuisine and atmosphere. I convinced my husband to try Dyron's this past Saturday, and we made a reservation. Unfortunately, it ended up being one of the worst dining experiences we've had in a while.

We were promptly seated, given water and menus and then ordered 2 cocktails, an appetizer and 2 entrees. Our cocktails arrived and then we were brought baked oysters, but we had ordered the fried seafood app. Since the couple seated next to us was eating baked oysters, our waiter gave "our wrong appetizer" to them. So we sat for another 20 minutes until our fried seafood app arrived. Although we were the ones inconvenienced, the table next to us gained the free round of oysters, which didn't sit well with me. I brushed it off though and ordered a glass of wine while we waited for our entrees.

When our entrees arrived, my husband received the pork tenderloin he ordered and I was presented with the red snapper. Unfortunately, I had ordered the fried chicken. Our waiter went back to the kitchen and returned frantically with a small apologetic serving of sautéed crab claws, which he dropped on the floor as he presented my glass of wine to the table next to us. At this point, our situation was becoming laughable and the table instructed the waiter that the glass of wine was mine. He stumbled over an apology and went back for more crab claws, but I was ready to leave at this point.

Once my husband finished his entree, my fried chicken arrived. We then promptly skipped the dessert menu and asked for a box and our check. My glass of wine was removed from the bill, but to top off the night, we had to ask that the higher priced red snapper be removed from our bill and corrected with my entree. The waiter was obviously not having a good night and asked that we return to give him a second chance, but I’m not sure I’ll be returning anytime soon.

We discovered Dyron's roughly a year ago, have eaten there something like eight or nine times, and are treated as "regulars." The food is consistently good, and one thing we have noticed on more than one occasion is the willingness of the servers to help each other out. And, the hostess who has been there on the majority of our trips is absolutely delightful. Great place for Sunday brunch!
