Dylan's Candy Bar Ratings and Reviews
Went to have dinner for my daughter’s 16h birthday. I would say that the overall service was great. The restaurant staff were amazing! The food on the other hand was mediocre, except for the guacamole which was delicious. The decour needs to be updated. The tables/chairs look old and worn out.
We had a 10 pm reservation for 4 at Dylan. We were celebrating our twins' birthday which we noted on our reservation. I'll start off by saying, the candy shop on main and lower floors were bright, clean, the atmosphere was energetic, the layout and candy selection was great.
My daughter and I arrived at the restaurant 45 minutes early and asked if there were any cancellations in hopes of getting seated earlier. I was advised they were just about to call me to see if I could come in earlier because they were closing early. We arrived at 9:15, when did they plan on calling me to come in early?) Note: I made the reservation 2 weeks ago and I called the day before to see if they had any 930 cancellations to move it up.
When we were taken into the dining area, there was only 1 other party of about 8 people who were finishing up and leaving in the dining area and it looked like the staff was already cleaning up to close for the evening. The dining area was dark, felt dirty and lacked any of the energy that was felt on the main floor. We ordered chicken fingers, mac and cheese, and burgers and it took forever for the food to come out ( I don't understand why considering we were the only patrons in the restaurant). The food was average. Between the setting and the food, we had no desire to try the desserts. I lived in NY my whole life and I have always said I wanted to go there but now that I have I don't feel I have missed much. It was such a disappointing experience for me and for my daughter who chose this restaurant.
P.S. No mention of us celebrating the kids birthday or even asking if we were celebrating a special occasion. After seeing the other reviews I know we weren't the only ones.
We were not able to dine
at Dylans because they were having a private party and apparantly
we were never told that. They said it was a communication error between them and open table. Open table then had the nerve to say i missed the reservation! I was there on time as I promised. I cannot say the same for the others!
The food needs to be improved greatly. There is no option for food allergies. Oh we cook all our fried stuff in the same oil. That definitely wasn’t a lie cause my fries had a funny taste. You really couldn’t complain cause the staff was hardly around to get someone to complain to...everything was eliminated off my daughter’s meal but not the price... I definitely only recommend it for the desserts. Dirty tables and cloudy glasses. The kids enjoyed the experience but definitely wouldn’t go back
Was a real disappointment. They were out of a lot of items in the menu. Place felt dirty inside. Very small. Got nachos and menu said shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese but was served with ice cold nacho cheese sauce on it. Needless to say we sent it back and told them to take it off the bill. Was served a coffee cup with a huge chip in it and I asked for another coffee cup. Save your money and chose a different restaurant. The whole store has gone down hill in the past couple of years.
My wife and I brought our 2 children along with another couple and their 2 children for a late night desert. The item we wanted, fondu, wasn't on the menu anymore, but our server did get it made for us. The restaurant (top floor) was a total disaster. I worked in the food industry many years ago, and this would not have been acceptable. The bottom floor was great and clean. The music was loud, but ok. The main floor was ok, just ok. The top floor or restaurant area was just plain, nasty. The floors were filthy, the ice cream display was unsanitary looking, and the bath rooms were gross. I must say, I was disappointed. I am a huge fan of Ralph Lauren and love the standard that the company has within their departments and stores. I was completely shocked that Dylan's did not adhere to same standard. The cakes in the ice cream area looked like they had been dropped and the ice cream freezer was just dirty. If I would've came for ice cream and cake, I would have left. Awful. I asked a employee if Dylan ever came by and she said she did from time to time. I would suggest that she either employ someone to pay closer attention or come by herself on a more regular basis. I would not revisit this establishment in the city. In the airport only.
Terrible Experience. Had reservations to take the kids. We were sat right away, however after 15 minutes, not 1 person came over to our table. I asked the hostess if we perhaps overlooked. She apologized and took our order. We again waited 20 more minutes, and only ordered a sundae. They were not very many people in the eating area, so I’m not sure why they were so slow. Overall, just not worth the hype. The online photos look way better than in person. Not very clean either.
This place is SO dirty!!! Came here for dinner with my nieces after Christmas and we were so disappointed. Floors were dirty, bathrooms disgusting, and trash everywhere. Service was so slow and for all that, the food was overpriced. Thought it was a fun place for kids but this was NOT THE CASE!
I took my daughter here for her 5th birthday, the day after Christmas. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They made her birthday extra special. Before lunch we toured the store and did a little "sweets" shopping. The food we ordered for lunch was good. The portion sizes were a little more than I expected. The restaurant appears larger in photos on the website. i was surprised at how small it was, but it was very nice. The waiter was very kind and helpful and paid extra attention to the Birthday Girl. We ate in a giant cupcake at a table filled with gumballs. What 5yo wouldn't love that? They sang happy birthday to her. It was lots of fun. My daughter had a blast. She asked to go back with her cousins. So i guess I'll be making another reservation soon.
Dirty tables - Christmas Day not full cafe
Host hooked up to his cellular phone not eye contact I even almost fell because of a charger was drop at the floor and nobody picketed up and I just put it on the counter top and the host dint even listen to me because of him using his personal phone not nice at the cafe area
More than 1 hour waiting time for 2 burgers and 1 set of wings
I’m from L.A and heard I should go. The visit was awful. I waited 20 minuets and then I finally had to talk to the hostess to get a waiter (no water or menu) while waiting . Finally I was able to order. 20 minuets later water came to the table along with our drink order. My daughters drink tasted like vanilla milk with whipped cream. (She asked for a toasted marshmallow ice cream shake). When I mentioned it I was told they ran out of marshmallows. THEN WHY WAS I GIVE A DRINK I DID NOT ASK FOR? Cherry coke float was missing pop rocks that was advertised with it. So I was given a package of grape since they ran out of cherry (in a candy store. Really?) 15 minuets later I received order of tater tots and was told food was on the way. 15 minuets later we had already eaten the tater totes when our food arrived. The burger would have been good if not so greasy and again my daughter did not get what she ordered. She does not eat meat and was given a chicken quesadilla when she asked for cheese. The whole experience took two hours. I was really disappointed since I wanted my daughter to enjoy this candy cafe experience. If and when I come back to New York I don’t think I will try again.
My friend was in town for the weekend, and she had previously sent me one of those foodie FB videos featuring Dylan’s candy bar and their signature cocktails. What a mistake it was to actually give his play a try. From the picture on opentable, which I understand does look obviously photoshopped, I thought this place would at least be a tiny bit more upscale. Dylan’s candy bar has a huge reputation, I was under the impression that they might’ve wanted to uphold it. This place was filthy. I’ve been to cleaner and better tasting Friendly’s compared to this place. The servers were barely friendly and they also had dirty uniforms and sticky candy covered hands. The nachos were horrendous. The “beef” was clearly a frozen hamburger patty that they’d barely mashed up with zero seasoning. The cookie butter pizza was lacking in the actual cookie butter department and the crust was basically like a flatbread that was cooked a bit too crispy. It was better than the nachos, but it wasn’t anything I’d order again. I will admit that the drink we got was pretty good. It’s meant for sharing but holy cow it was huge, super sugary, and $35. All in all I felt ripped off and will never step foot in another Dylan’s candy bar again because that was a truly disappointing experience.
Heard about Dylan's and put it on our list of must dos when visiting NYC. Food was good however suprised that everyone in our party did not receive their food simultaneously. Five plus minutes between meal deliveries even when same dish ordered. Restaurant theme cute however somewhat tired and worn. CLeanliness of washrooms, tables, menus etc could certainly be improved upon. Ice cream desserts...worth the calories. Unique alcoholic beverages with awesome presentation.
We came here for my birthday and got the booth as I had booked it, but the kitchen closed super early so I was wondering why they took a reservation for 30 min before. We had 1 cocktail (good) and received our greasy pizza :-( and then they said the kitchen was closing. They just had sundae for dessert, while we came mainly for desserts!!!! Didn't offer candles or anything for my birthday, rushed all the group for leaving and paying. Service was really rude. We had to pack the remains of a pizza and they didn't even give us a bag to go with it.
I do not recommend to go there, they should really cose the restaurant and just remain a candy shop, and recruit nice people.
This was literally the worst meal I have ever had in my life! We went to celebrate a birthday, the only good thing about the entire meal was when the wait staff sang Happy Birthday. The food: turkey burger was so dried out it was inedible, 3 cheese grilled cheese resembled something from the kiddie mall menu, being on the regular menu that was a surprise, it also tasted foul, also inedible. The French fries tasted old. We ordered cappuccinos and they came out cold, when we told the waiter he said, they served them in chilled glasses and didn’t steam the milk by mistake, he apologized and He did make us new ones that came out hot. The nachos were made with something that resembled cheese wiz with guacamole that had already turned brown, complete with something that was supposed to be sour cream perhaps mixed with water? All this while a big toddler party was going on at 9pm, screaming and kids running around everywhere. Once they left a group of teens were seated with no adult supervision, more screams and they were literally pointing steak knives at each other and stabbing their food, having sword fights, not once were they asked to stop or settle down. This entire debacle took over 2 hour we waited at least 30 minutes for our ice cream desserts then we realized our waiter was behind the ice cream counter making the desserts! They were obviously short staffed and the restaurant was not even full. We felt bad for our waiter and he felt bad for us. He did remove 2 of our meals and 2 of our desserts t
from our bill, yes it was that bad. We didn’t even have to ask. Not sure where management is in this place but they need help from the service to the food it was absolutely awful. So disappointing as we centered our entire evening around this place! I would not recommend this place to anyone. The store is cute but skip the restaurant!
I took my 7-year old daughter thinking it would be a fun experience. The candy store is great, she had a blast filling up her bag with an assortment of candies. When it was time for lunch at the cafe I felt that it lacked the ambiance. It seemed like it could be updated, and I thought it could be more vibrant considering we were in such a cool candy store. I thought the cafe atmosphere would be more fun. The food was alright. Just seemed like the cafe is an after thought. Recommend the store, not cafe.
I have to say in the past I had wonderful experiences, but this one was horrible! Service was slow, rude ,one waitress was actually combing her hair with her fingers in the main dining room, one was on the phone snapping gum, our first waitress was "too new" she stated to answer any questions we had for her,we got a new waiter and it seemed like we were forgotten about, took 25 mins to be seated, with a reservation,(there was only 2 other customers there at the time)not friendly at all, we decided not to order from the menu for our dinner since it's completely changed and less savory foods to choose from,we ordered 5 of The both way shakes, they were extremely sloppy ,lacking alot of goodies on top it took 40 minutes to get that and the espresso we ordered the espresso was served in a paper cup we had to wait almost 5 mins for sugar to go into our espresso as well (ended up cold),it was my daughter's birthday and I requested for something special, which no one addressed as well. The main floor had candy everywhere, staff was yelling across the establishment like we were at a baseball game...like I said, previous encounters were delightful, but it seems either the management or team has changed drastically.
