Dylan's Candy Bar Ratings and Reviews
I was quite disappointed. It was very small, cold, and the staff was less than professional looking. The food ended up being ok, but the ambiance wasn’t what I thought it would be. There was a manager or someone who had taken an entire booth the use his laptop. There was only 3 small groups of people there and it still took forever. I did it for my girls and while they liked the candy store, we won’t go out of our way for this.
I took my almost 7 year old here for a bite to eat after seeing The Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall. We were seated quickly. My daughter commented at how small the tables were for two people. The restaurant was fairly busy. I found it to be a little messy - silverware on the floor, empty tables left unbussed. Our waiter was fantastic. He was attentive and helpful. The food was good. We had a salad and some loaded tots. We also had an impressive milkshake. The smile on my daughter's face when that come out was priceless. It was a nice treat on our Mommy Daughter day in the city.
The food was delicious -- quality, large portions, and prices are fair. Actual service could be better: Took 45 minutes to get lunch and then the drinks and coffee came out first?! And this was not on the weekend, and the place was not busy with other patrons-- there were empty tables. Also, the waitress was not attentive. However, our kids were impressed, good thing they were not starving.
Huge let down. Was a special day for my daughters 9th birthday. We made a reservation and noted it in the comments. Upon checking in I reminded them that we we celebrating her birthday. I even mentioned it twice to the waiter. There were a few b-day celebrations that they sang at the table and they forgot my daughter. Huge let down to a fabulous day in the city. the food order was also wrong.
Our trip to New York City was a birthday surprise for my daughter, who was turning 7. I knew she really wanted to go to Dylan’s Candy Bar, so I made reservations. She was very excited when we walked up and realized we would be eating here. However, from the moment we got to the cafe, I knew this was not going to be the experience we hoped for. The hostess wasn’t there because she was having to do multiple other jobs (come to find out later on they were very short-staffed). One of the waitresses let us know someone would be by to help us and read the note I left on the reservation about it being my daughter’s birthday. However, not one other person read it or seemed to care, including the hostess. I had my 1 year old daughter with me and immediately asked for a high chair. I had to ask 2-3 more times before I finally received a BROKEN one after about 5-10 minutes of my daughter trying to get out of my arms. The wood pegs were separating the seat from one of the legs. Once our orders were taken and the food arrived, it was very greasy and the Mac and cheese had an odd taste, so my daughter couldn’t eat it. I understand they were short-staffed, but not one person there tried to explain anything or apologize for the issues. I have never written a bad review for any business, however, my family and I were very upset and I felt it was necessary because it honestly seemed like this wasn’t out of the ordinary.
Terrible. We went because this is sold as fun Willy Wonka type candy store with amazing cocktails. It was depressing how little the staff cared to make you time enjoyable. We had to work really hard to get service. Food was okay typical fare for an American chain restaurant. The cocktails were amazing they could have only been improved with a bit of enthusiasm from the bar tender.
I made a reservation at the Cafe located in Dylans Candy Bar for dessert to celebrate my daughters birthday. While the retail was as expected the service at the Cafe was definitely underwhelming. No mention of my daughters birthday even though I put it in the reservation notes. Hostess went to seat us at a table but it was dirty and we had to wait while it was cleaned. Hostess couldn’t get all the sprinkles off the table so she gave up and left them. A kitchen cart with supplies was parked right next to our cupcake booth. Worked hard to crop that out of photos. Ordered 3 different sundaes. My hot fudge sundae was anything but. The fudge was a solid cold substance. Service was slow even though we had a 10pm reservation and only two other tables were seated. Overall I was disappointed and had buyers remorse.
The Candy Store is amazing! However, I’d recommend avoiding the cafe. Restaurant was half empty, yet we waited a considerable time to be sat at a table and to get our food. The burgers did not come out as ordered (specified no mayo on all) and were over cooked. Overall food quality was mediocre at best and a terrible value. We mentioned it was our child’s birthday on our reservation, yet no mention was made by our server or anyone else. The ambiance was cold - bright lights and no background music, save for the off and on freeze game music of a birthday party in an adjoining room. However, the server was friendly, and our kids really enjoyed the candy store. Next time we’ll know to eat dinner somewhere (anywhere!) else and just swing by Dylan’s for treats.
My kids loved it. We sat in a cupcake booth which they thought was great. BUT, the table was a little sticky, the bathrooms were gross and the food was subpar. I wasn't expecting anything great but it was pretty bad. I ordered a glass of red wine which tasted so old that I just decided to leave it. We ordered dessert and it was fine but nothing special and they brought one dessert about 15 mins after the others. I'm certain there are better options out there.
The only saving grace at Dylan’s Candy bar was that the food was fabulous if you’re into sweets & carbs (which I am), overpriced but fabulous. It was incredibly loud, we were seated at the world’s smallest table although other parties of 2 got a normal sized one, and everything felt sticky. Our waiter put in an order for something that was completely wrong, so my companion had to wait for what she actually ordered while we both stared at my food because it seemed rude to eat it when she didn’t have anything. The wait staff as a whole seemed very inattentive to everyone and rushed, although I couldn’t tell that it was that busy.
Thankfully the candy store downstairs saved the day, though, because everyone there was incredibly friendly and helpful, and it is SO cool! So, visit the store and eat somewhere else.
I was extremely disappointed in my experience at Dylan's. I am not from NYC but have visited many times but hadn't had the opportunity until 9/30. I made reservations for a girl's dinner & drinks with a few friends. First, the cafe was extremely cold. It was cold outside and the cafe still must have had the AC on. I had to keep my jacket on the whole time but was still very cold. Next, it took us a very long time to get our cocktails. My friend's food came out before my drink did. The cafe was not busy at all so I was disappointed in the time it took to get them. I was also very disappointed in the size of the drink for the price and taste. I got the chicken finger basket to eat and the fries were very bland and the tenders were not seasoned at all plus very dry. For a $30 visit, I expected to have a much better experience. This place is very expensive and is overrated. I highly doubt I will return in the future. Very disappointed that I wasted time going to Dylan's instead of trying other popular places in NYC.
Our reservation was cancelled due to a private event but they were great to reschedule a time for us to come since we were from out of town. The food and service was great, my only complaint was that the restaurant and table were a bit dirty. Other than that it was fantastic for my daughters 10th birthday - she was OBSESSED!
Thoroughly disappointed - YOU had my booking and it was confirmed by you twice. To travel all that way to be told that they didn't have my booking, oh wait, when I showed Dylan's my reservation number then they apologized which did nothing to make me feel welcome. A management meeting was going on and therefore I could not be accommodated. A disappointed South African.
Lunched with a co-worker that had never been to your establishment. While we didn't get to sit at a cupcake booth (there was a birthday party celebration going on), we did get a cozy seat by the window to look out at the NYC crowd. Service was good and our waitress continuously checked in with us if we needed anything. This was the first time I tried out the seasonal veggie salad and it was VERY flavorful! The truffle dressing - delicious! And the Pink Cloud lemonade mocktail? Tart, sweet, and sparkling with club soda - super yummy!
Took my nieces out for end of summer lunch... they were excited when we got there as I made it a surprise to them... we were lucky to get a cupcake table... our server Imani was awesome she was patient and friendly with the kids and even brought us a special kiddie drink for my 2yr old... great 1st experience for all!
The food was horrible, the place was old and dirty. What a complete let down. The candy store is pretty good. The café should be closed! Food was gross. Everything looked as if it was frozen and barely re-heated. Total waste of money. NYC dining should be better. The tables are so old they wobbled through the whole meal and the glass top was coming off. Service was slow as can be. The kids were so excited to go there. Never again would I go back.
Service was horribly slow & the waiter was absent for the most part. The restaurant was not even remotely crowded yet it took 45 minutes to receive our food, which was a grilled cheese sandwich and a salad. The grilled cheese sandwich came out burnt and we had to send it back . We pressed our luck and ordered two different desserts the chocolate chip cookie cooked in a skillet and the cookie butter pizza . The skillet cookie was once again burnt Anna and so were the chocolate chip cookies that rest that on top of the cookie pizza. Overall horrible dining experience . Would never come back here to eat again .
My family absolutely loved visiting Dylan's Candy Bar! We got to have a late lunch in the corner Cupcake Booth. The view was wonderful! The food was great! The experience was totally unique and lots of fun! I would recommend Dylan's to anyone: couples, families, friends. Dylan's brings you back to your childhood and fills your heart with joy and excitement!!!
The floor of the restaurant was filthy, there was dried ice cream and other spots on the side of our table and the food was just ok. Not what we were expecting, but a cute place for the kids. It just wasn't worth the long walk from Times Square unfortunately.
I booked through Open Table. There were three of us...me, my husband and 10 ye old daughter. My daughter was so excited to go. I asked for and was hoping for a cupcake booth with the understanding there was no guarantee. When we got there, we were seated at a high top table with an obstructed view of the restaurant. I asked hostess if we could move to a better table and she said No. Ok. At first I figured it was just our luck that nothing better was available. When after 15 minutes, I noticed that two of the three cupcake booths were empty, I asked our waiter and showed him that I requested it through the reservation. He said it was no problem and moved us to the booth. The other empty one never filled while we were there. Weird! Why would they seat us there to begin with! Our waiter was very nice, however we waited 15 minutes to be greeted. The service and the wait for food was very slow. The waiter forgot both the appetizer and salad we ordered. We didn't bother with it once our entrees came. The food was just so-so. The desserts were very good, very rich and expensive, but that is their thing so no surprise there.
I was under the impression this was a hard to get reservation and the service would be good and friendly. I didn't expect the food to be stellar, but I did expect the atmosphere to be inviting and more theme oriented.
Based on the lack of customers in the restaurant, I imagine it's not as popular as it's made out to be.
Definitely, will skip this next time we are in NYC.
I WAS SHOCKED AT THE POOR SERVICE I HAD GOTTEN WHEN I WENT TO EAT THERE NOT TO MENTION THE TABLE ALONE WAS VERY DIRTY WITH CRUMBS OF FOOD AND EXTREMELY STICKY FROM A PREVIOUS DINER!THE FOOD WAS NOT GOOD AND THE PRESENTATION OF THE FOOD LOOKED NOTHING AT ALL LIKE IT DID WHEN IT WAS SERVED. MY SERVER TO WAS BUSY AT THE BAR WITH COWORKERS LAUGHING THEN ATTENDING TO MY GUEST AND I. I WAS THERE ON A BUSINESS BRUNCH ACTUALLY PLANNING TO POSSIBLY HOST A MAJOR WORK EVENT THERE AND AFTER OUR EXPERIENCE WE DECIDED TO LOOK ELSE WHERE AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND PEOPLE TO SPEND $ THERE
The restaurant is very cute and colorful with the cupcake tables. We were seated during our reservation time, but unfortunately waited over an hour for our food. It was not busy. The server was very nice and apologetic--she advised the staff was short that day. The lemonades we ordered were very appealing to look at and tasted good. The food was ok, tasted fine but, nothing special. The bathrooms were a mess. The floors were wet and dirty. The toilet paper rolls were on the floor. The soap dispensers had no soap in them. The toilet seat cover sheets supply was empty. It made me wonder how clean the kitchen was where our food was being prepared. We definitely wouldn't go back to eat there.
First time eating at the cafe after hearing about it from friends decided that it would be a great place to take my daughter the male and female host that greeted me were very friendly I was seated quickly in a cupcake booth the food was ok my server was great best part was the desserts !!
We reserved a cupcake booth two weeks in advance & it was one of the best decisions we could've made. It's worth to plan in advance for the cupcake booth because it makes the experience better. The gumball table was really cool! Wish there would've been gumball candy on the table that we can actually take. All the employees were really nice & friendly. They checked up on us every so often to make sure we were good. We would go there more often, but it is quite expensive. We would go there again & would recommend it to other people. Just wish the prices were lower. The display of vintage candy products is quite interesting. We found candy items that we couldn't find anywhere else!
