A 13yrs old's dream place. The special ice cream drinks are spot on. Cocktails were yummy. Food was fair...menu limited and even avocado was left off sandwich because they were out. Come for the ambiance, drinks and experience not for the overall food.
Daughters 8th birthday
First off, the table we were sat at wobbled the whole time. That didn't start our experience off right. The menu was also quite small food wise, and the item I ended up ordering wasn't even available. I ended up ordering the mozzarella sticks that were so small and $12! I just thought that was a little excessive. The sharable drink was the only enjoyable part our meal. I would maybe recommend sitting at the bar if your looking for a cool drink experience but otherwise would skip this place.
Didn’t really need a reservation the café wasn’t crowded. Reminded me of an ice cream shop. Not many food options but cute. My biggest complaint/concern was the cleanliness. The floors, table, & chairs were I sat where filthy; just GROSS!!
This would’ve been much more enjoyable if they staffed the cafe properly. The poor waitress/hostess was working very hard with no help! This caused several reservations coming in to be cancelled because she and the kitchen couldn’t manage as a small team.
Waited a long time for every aspect of service- placing an order, water, bill, complimentary ice cream for my daughter's birthday. When I arrived I heard another customer complaining about the wait time. Please know there were only 3-4 tables of customers. The water glass given was dirty. It didn't matter cause the waiter never actually brought water. We ordered nachos and a pretzel. I thought the nachos would have included more than 4 toppings - cheese tomatoes onions sour cream - because they took forever to come out. I also had to inquire about the birthday treat. Its advertised when you make the reservation. Super disappointed with the service and bland food. The only redeeming things were the ambiance and drinks. Lastly, the white paint on the chairs was chipped throughout the restuarant. While it didn't impact the experience too much, it was just unsightly and I expected better.
Although the candy store is fun and tons of candy we are there in the little restaurant and they were out of a ton a food. Limited menu. Disappointing for sure.
The server was very inattentive and disorganized causing a long wait time for our food and drinks
Would not recommend this location for dining
The food was ok. The drinks were good. My 12yo was excited about his fancy lemonade but the pigs in a blanket weren’t that good. It was uncooked dough but some were kind of burnt on the outside. The waiter was nice, but busy. He was the only waiter. The place is popular but tiny. It needs to be bigger and have more wait staff.
There was only ONE server for the entire restaurant on a Friday evening during Spring Break. He tried his best but our dining experience too much longer than it should have!
The dining area was FREEZING.
The food was mediocre (hardly and cheese in my quesadilla) and options are limited.
They were out of all non-dairy dessert options, only ice cream dishes were available.
We were very disappointed. Could have been able to look past the cafeteria food if the service had been good but alas, that was not the case.
My 2 sons & I went to Dylan's Candy Bar Cafe for a birthday dinner/dessert. The cafe wasn't busy, but service was super slow. It took FOREVER to receive food (2 orders of appetizer chicken wings and a chopped salad). When the food finally arrived, my boys said the wings were really good. My salad was decent, nothing outstanding. We then ordered 3 colossal desserts Dylan's are know for (the reason we were there). Once again, it took a very long time and when they arrived, we were only given 2 (mistake by the server). Instead of apologizing or comping us a dessert, she said she would just order us the missing one. I decided to cut our losses at this point because we had already been there 2 hours. This is a super fun place to visit, but considering how popular and fun it is, they really need to work on their service. The only reason I'm saying "would recommend" is that my boys LOVED their desserts.
Loved the milkshakes, they were delicious! Very cute place. Great place to go with your friends and family.
We brought our grandson for his birthday. I had made reservations weeks in advance; however, our seating was right in the line of traffic next to the bar. There were empty tables everywhere around us. Our waitress was mediocre, at best. She was working behind the bar as well as our table. The food was quite good, even though the atmosphere was not a special 9th birthday environment.
Friendly helpful wonderful waitress. Amazing ice cream creations! LOVE the restaurant, staff, clerks, desserts and atmosphere! A Chicago must
I was disappointed with my experience at Dylan’s Candy’s Bar-Chicago. My boyfriend and I got desserts and would say they were just meh, which isn’t ideal especially when we paid $12 for each. A cookie sundae with a chips ahoy cookie? Disappointing. The “instagram-worthy” milkshake my boyfriend got was small, and just so-so. Service was poor but expected since they had 1 waiter for a Saturday night. We wish we would have spent our time and money elsewhere.
The place was nice from appearance. Our waiter Jeff was very rude. He seems to not have any customer service training. He basically tried to accuse me of getting a free plate of nachos. When asked to re run the security tape he aggresively declined. He embarrassed me and my family. He didn't offer an apology after her realized he was wrong. I truly felt unwanted and discriminated against in your establishment. Didn't get a chance to sing happy birthday to my son because the situation was so upsetting.
It was eerily quiet on snowy Friday night. Made a reservation for this place for my friend’s birthday, but it wasn’t really necessary because it was so empty inside. There was one guy working as the bartender, server, and host. And then another manager that was roaming around jumping in to help once in a while. But still with so little customers (there was my group – 5 people) and a couple pairs. He seemed very overwhelmed. He didn’t offer us a drink menu, so I had to get up and get one from the bar. Service was sooo slow like at least 15-25 minutes for them to make our drinks, had to ask for water multiple times and he forgot our food order, which is fine, but he didn’t apologize, just said he took it off our bill. Overall it was a fine experience being with friends and some of the drinks were cool, but except a wait and slow service, and eat something beforehand cause the food offerings are limited and might even be forgotten.
Fun place to get your sweets fix, and good place for kids and adults
I've been here a few times now... all I can say is this (about the restaurant when you're seated not at the bar... )
It takes a while to get seated even with a reservation
The service is really slow
They always appear to be understaffed for tables
I've never received any type of flatware when ordering food... here is your meal and dessert (a skillet cookie).
Need anything else? Umm... a way to eat it. Thanks... 10 minutes later. I got silverware.
Dessert was good and reasonably priced. Meal itself was worse than the low bar you'd expect at a place like this. Pleasant servers but lots of mistakes in cooking - salad without dressing, blt with almost no bacon.
Service is very slow and inattentive. And the restaurant was empty. I watched my food get cold as it waited for the waiter for over 5 minutes.
Food not great! Desserts awesome! Service was very slow, and it was not busy a lot of empty tables, kinda disappointed
My daughter and I were excited to visit your establishment. Many friends of ours have and have posted pictures on Facebook. I noticed when my daughter arrived there wasn't any pictures to go with the variety of drinks, shakes and malts. I couldn't tell what I was ordering. The server suggested we go see the ice cream area to get a variety of shakes/malts. Again, not many pictures. I'm kind of visual person and not only do I need the words , I need pictures to go with. That would be a suggestion from me is to have photos to go with all of your drinks that you offer.
Another thing is that I was not impressed with the macaroni and cheese that was suppose to be a Dylan's Candy staple. The noodles tasted as if they had been sitting for a while and were reheated. Many noodles were tasteless. The cheese wasn't even melted. I was so sick to my stomach I could eat more than 4-5 bites (I kept wanting it to taste better and it didn't happen).
Overall this restaurant is way overpriced for the quantity and quality of food. The waitresses was working very hard, but she needed help.
I love Dylan's Candy Bar, and really like taking my kids there, because it has a really fun ambience and lots of bright, dramatic colors. It's totally unique. I don't think the food is very good. It's sort of so-so and not very healthy. But the drinks are a lot of fun and creative. I'd like to see the menu improved a bit, but otherwise it's a really great place to take the family and have some food, then shop for candy in the store for dessert
A 4-year old's birthday dream-come-true! Shared the amazing "bet you can't" sundae with friends and it was everything you could hope for in a Willy Wonka ice cream parlor. Our server was great, dessert was delicious and the view of MI Ave was charming. A little pricey for everyday, but perfect for a special treat.
The food was surprisingly awful, the service was slow, we received our apps after our entrees and it was expensive for what you got. The only part that was enjoyable was that my kids were excited about the candy store. Nothing else was worthwhile.
My daughters loved it. Only thing the place is missing is the oompa loompas.
Would not recommend for kids or if you have food allergies. Our waiter was too busy so a manager waited on us (he was great). Food tasted great but too small for a fun family meal.
Great place, lively and animated. The decor makes you feel as though you just stepped into Willy Wonka's chocolate factory ( gene Wilder version, not the Johnny Depp version. As anticipated and expected the place was packed ( Saturday afternoon). Thankfully we had reservations for the cafe, dessert only. And although the sundaes we enjoyed, and the quality was exceptional, I could not get over the fact that for 2 people, dessert only, our check was over 50 dollars pre-tax. As for the service, the service was not on par with the experience. I felt as though our waiter was ill trained, was not knowledgeable concerning the ingredients ( nuts, etc), the availability, and the menu. Although he was indeed polite, he needed to "check with the kitchen" for each and every question we presented for an answer, thereby delaying our ordering process, as he would dissapear for several minutes at a time. We reserved our table for 2 people, and notified the waiter we had approximately 45 minutes, which was more than ample for the consumption of two ice cream sundaes. It took almost an hour before we received our order, and then needed to have the items put into "to go" containers, thereby depriving us of the entire experience, along with no time to purchase package goods for friends and family. So overall, I would recommend the establishment for the pure childlike experience, but not for the service.
For a candy store... GREAT! ..... was colorful...large variety....but very expensive... Food was terrible... We didn’t expect it to be gourmet... but it was worse than we expected... the wait staff seemed like they were just going through the motions... I felt the restaurant area could have been cleaner or more well-kept..
I would recommend a visit but skip the food...
Attentive service for a small party of 13year olds. Food was good, not superior, but as expected in a chain style restaurant. Desserts were unique, delicious, and HUGE! On the pricey side but comparable to other downtown spots. We would go again for another special event.
Kids had a great time , wish it had better parking, also was a bit cool ! But for the most part very enjoyable.
My niece was celebrating her 9th Birthday and she/we loved the place from the moment we stepped in.
We went for a girls weekend in Chicago. Of all the shows and clubs we went to Dylan's happy hour was everyone's favorite. So glad we decided to add this fun stop to our night.
Super, sugary fun & vibrantly colorful place to bring the family at least once. The staff is very helpful & upbeat- which is what you would expect in a candy store. We checked out both floors and stopped at cafe for ice cream & shakes. Over the top presentation! :) Spent a lot on candy too.
The ambiance was really fun! My daughter enjoyed her time there and we will be back.
The waiter was all over the place, he forgot half of our order and he did not acknowledg by daughter's birthday, the main reason for our visit.
