Durant's Ratings and Reviews
Durant's provided exactly what they are known for. My girlfriend and I were there for Valentine's day. It was very busy but expected. We arrived early and grabbed a couple bar stools when they opened up, had a great straight up dirty martini and she had a glass of Cab. They poured her a couple tasters until she found the right Cab for her taste. Res was for 845, we were sat by 9 but it was very evident that the staff was working hard to get people seated asap so we were not phased. Dinner started with a great bottle of wine our server recommended, the crab cakes, soup and salad, then my prime rib cooked to a perfect med rare, and her grilled scallops in herb cream sauce (to die for!). Yes, place was crowded and busy but in our giant booth for two, we were just fine and unaffected by any excess noise. All in all great experience, and yes, bring your wallet. If you are looking for a quick cheap steak, I think there is an Applebees nearby
Durant’s is our annual Valentines/Anniversary dinner date and is superb in every respect. The ambiance is old style CLASSY in every way.
The food is wonderful with a great selection. The service is classy, friendly, and efficient. Our server this time, David, was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Not being newcomers we are no longer surprised by entering through the kitchen...greeted by the cooking staff. I would rate the noise level between moderate and high. My only caution to readers is Durant’s popularity...if you want a table on a day like Valentines you have to reserve early. Like 3-4 weeks ahead. A great dinner and we will be back next year.
I was hoping for an incredible experience from everything I had heard. The wait was expected. We got to the table and the waiter explained everything. The food came put at a reasonable time. The staff came out and checked on us which was appreciated. My wife had the top sirloin , the marinade flavor was pretty much on the surface. The other thing was it took about 20 minutes to get a refill on a soft drink. They were busy being Valentine's night, but that to,me was a bit long.
Durant's is one of the best steak houses I've ever been in. My husband, who is a great cook, also loves it and so does my son, who is a real foodie. The waiters are great, especially Lonnie and Kevin. The seafood is also terrific if you're not in the mood for a steak. The crabcakes and pasta with clam sauce are to die for and so are the desserts. You'll love this place.
We come here a few times a year for date night. Definitely a romantic feel to the place but also good for birthdays and business gatherings. The place can get a little loud, more so near the bar area. We've always only ordered the steaks and they are always cooked perfectly. Service also has been outstanding every time we've gone, waiters definitely pay attention and your beverage never goes empty.
Entered through the kitchen which fun. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly. Everything from the bread (wow!) to the Main Course was delicious. 5 star steak, garlic mash creamy and flavorful.
It was a little pricey so I can't stop in every week but I will definitely be back.
Our business party of four came to this place because of its excellent reviews. Our group frequently dines at excellent restaurants around the country. Durant's is a classic 1950s-style upscale restaurant with great food, but several problems.
1. Building. You actually enter this small unimpressive building through the back door, walking through the cramped kitchen. This point would not be that important, but this was a harbinger of things to come.
2. Noise. Low ceilings, tight quarters, and a packed house all created a very noisy place. Even though we had only four at our table, it was hard to hear each other talk and very hard to hear the tired soft-spoken waiter.
3. Cramped. The tables are packed together tightly with very little elbow room. The owners clearly want to maximize dollars/sq-ft.
4. Prices. If you go to their website to review the menu, you'll notice that the prices have been DELETED from the online menu. When you get to the restaurant and see the menu in person, you then realize why. The prices are extravagant. Our group is accustomed to seeing $50 steaks, but Durant's prices can be much more ... $60 and up. (One novelty item is the 48-oz Porterhouse + 2 lobsters; price = $254. Yes, $254.)
5. Slow service. We arrived at 6:15 on a Wednesday night. Our simple entrees took at least an hour to prepare. We didn't linger after dinner, but we didn't get out of there until 8:45 p.m. (2-1/2 hours).
Yes, the food was very good. But we all concluded, "We won't be back." There are too many other good restaurants that offer a much more pleasant experience.
Durant’s is a classic “old school” steakhouse with red leather booths and red wallpaper. We went on a Wednesday night at 6pm and it was really busy. We enjoyed the classic vibe and the steaks were delicious but pricy.
Our service was really slow. We were trying to make an 8:30 basketball game and ended up needing to flag down our server (no easy task because he was so busy) to get our check and rush out the door. We were celebrating a birthday, but didn’t get to have dessert because we ran out of time.
I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at Durant's. Ron was our host for the evening and he provided excellent service. His recommendations were perfect, and he was quite knowledgeable regarding their steaks. We sampled both the raw oysters as well as the Oysters Rockefeller, and both were out of this world. I had a bone-in ribeye steak that was grilled exactly as ordered. The flavor was spot on without showing signs of heavy handedness during preparation. The wine list was extensive, but we opted for hand crafted drinks instead. A fantastic dining experience all the way around.
If you want an excellent steak this is it. Yes, the prices are not conducive to everyday dining but they are worth it. The entry walk through the kitchen, the staff greetings, friendliness and knowledgeability are first class, making you feel welcome and at home. And they know how to do a steak! That and a nice bottle of wine! Awesome!
It was very crowded the night we went but we were able to get a drink at the bar while we waited for our table. Somehow they were able to locate us in the crowd when our table was ready. The food was amazing! It was so good, we are going back again Monday!!
