DUO - Steak & Seafood Ratings and Reviews
We spent our last night on Maui having dinner at Duo, and boy, it did not disappoint! Everything was exceptional....our waiter, the delicious appetizer and dinner, and the deserts, which are unbelievably beautiful as well as tasty! I highly recommend this restaurant and will be back here the next time we visit Maui!
We visit Duo’s annually as our favorite dining spot on vacations to Maui. This year we discovered their famous seafood-bar night has been moved to only on Tuesday’s but we kept our Friday reservation anyways hoping to double the great experience. Aside from the so-so 2-3 Star rating we just weren’t impressed at this caliber of service, price and expectations that the Four Seasons is consistently capable of. Looking forward to the seafood bar anyways but this visit was disappointing. And what’s up with that big roll of cotton candy given after dinner? Is it a traditional custom or just a complimentary thank you to dinner guests??? Either way it tastes disgusting and belongs at a Circus Fair with corn dogs, beer and cinnamon rolls.
Service was far superior to our one experience, so far, not sure we will return, at Maui’s Spago at same hotel. Be prepared to pay a lot for cuisine that’s not quite what one would receive in an equally rated restaurant in, for example, LA or NYC. Recommended but $$$.
We went on a Friday night which was their Brazian Steak House kinda of night. It was incredible and a great deal for the price. The restaurant was gorgeous and each dish that came out was tasty and delicious. Not one thing was mediocre, all exceptionally tasting. The ambience was so beautiful that we ended up staying and chatting for 3.5 hrs. They never rushed us, let us sit and enjoy the night we were having. The whole time that we were there (which was long!) they kept coming to ask if we would like anything else, refilling out drinks etc. I would go back in a heartbeat and on a Friday night because of the value. We will be back next time in Maui!
My husband loves the Duo steak. He was disappointed with the Friday night special Market night, where you get to taste many different meats. Servers bring small portions to your table as you are ready. He was disappointed in the quality of the meat, and that some of the portions arrived at the table cold. We will return in the future, but not on Market night. We will come when he can get the big juicy steak he likes there. I am happy they have a vegetarian menu, thanks Duo for taking care of all kinds of needs.
Pricey dinner but to be expected with a steak house at the Four Seasons. The food was delicious, fantastic, friendly wait staff, and great view. I'd try to book a reservation for just before sunset, so you can see it in the distance while you eat. Plenty of seating in the open air. Comfortable atmosphere. The mac n cheese deserves an A++++. Great presentation on our entree's and ... everyone get's cotton candy after their meal!
Truly enjoyed the food, drinks (Maui Brewery beer, lime in the coconut cocktail, rose) and the waiter service was great! A little pricey but was prepared.
We had 1/2 dozen oysters with prosecco was a starter. Oysters were good, presecco was excellent combo with the oysters.
I had 2 wellness (healthy version) appys as my main...beet ravioli & nori quinoa rolls. Absolutely delicious!
My husband was very happy, he had rib eye, loaded baked potato & mushrooms.
Wish there was a 1/2 order option of mushrooms. Way too many mushrooms for 2 people. Would of had another side of that was the case.
Only issue was, we asked for a table with a water view and informed the hostess it was our last night in Hawaii. We were nicely told all tables had a view.
This is not the case and were given a table close to the front of the restaurant. That was disappointing but especially so, when I walked to the back of the restaurant and 5 tables with great water views were empty.
It was 530pm...the restaurant was not busy.
This was the best meal we had during our stay in Maui! The seafood was impeccable and the steak was cooked perfectly! Between that, the wonderful service and the setting we were thoroughly pleased! We will come back next time we are in Maui! Make sure to enjoy the lobby bar after dinner too - we really enjoyed the live music!
This is a great restaurant. Our waitress Maria, was so lovely, not imposing, but friendly, knowledgeable and such a pleasure to get to know. She made our dinner-thank you Maria. The staff at Duo are all polite. The manager even came to check we were okay. Our meal was as expected and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The wine list is great. Overall, amazing evening and we would come back.
My husband and I went to Duo in the Four Seasons in Hawaii while on vacation celebrating our 10 year anniversary. We received a very special bottle of wine and brought it with us all the way to HI to enjoy it on our special night. As soon as we walked up to the hostess she asked us if we had purchased the bottle in the hotel and we said no. She said that we could NOT have the bottle with our meal BC its their “policy”. They only allow their overpriced wine from the restaurant or Hotel store and they still charge a $40 cork fee. What a joke this is! I have never had a restaurant not allow an outside bottle of wine. Needless to say it ruined the start of the meal and everything seemed a little less enjoyable after that. The server was great but we will not be going back to Duo. We will go to Ruth Chris for the same steak but we can bring a bottle of wine with us. Pretty silly reason to lose a returning customer.
Great overall experience. The only real negative of the night was that the restaurant is located near the pool and instead of being able to view the sunset, canopies are significantly in the way. The pool seems to be open throughout the night so you will see many individuals walking to get to the pool in their bikinis. Not a sight you may not want to see if you’re looking to have a romantic evening.
As for the food, The octopus appetizer is amazing, not your typical chewy texture most local residents experience, nice and tender. If I knew how great the truffle Mac n cheese and truffle mushrooms were we would’ve just ordered more of these plates. Chocolate soufflé was delicious, could’ve been served without the bananas and maybe a little more ice cream. Cotton candy at the end was a wonderful sweet treat to end the evening.
Outstanding steaks. We have been two years in a row. Despite the price and quality of food it is pretty casual. Maybe even a little too casual. The wait staff just wear t-shirts for dinner service. Other than that, it is top notch. Our second time, the kitchen struggled and sent out my steak rare. This wasn’t what I ordered, but I give them credit for being very apologetic and working hard to make it right. No restaura
I would have given a higher review, but was very disappointed when I got the check and the suggested tips were so exaggerated. They must think that people are idiots to suggest that a 20% tip of a $180 tab is over $50. If this is what they must do to get thier staff more money, then they need to rethink putting any suggestion on the check. I personally found it insulting to suggest I don't know simple math.
The tuna was great. The filet was tough and mediocre. The service was our biggest complaint. The servers were dressed sloppy and lacked sophistication. The four seasons sets the bar for service. I should not have to ask for a steak knife then wait 5-7 minutes once my food arrives for the knife. I ordered a drink before my entree arrived and it still had not arrived when I was finished. I could actually move past those things if the server created a great experience but he did not. The level of service did not match the location or price point.
