Duling Kurtz House Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I got together with long time friends in this beautiful restaurant. We were able to chat and hear one another easily. The food and service were excellent. My Short ribs were melt in your mouth. Others at our table enjoyed their selections as proven by completely cleaned plates sent back to the kitchen:Lobster crepes, filet mignon, and shrimp/scallops dish. A nice surprise--the delicious popovers instead of plain bread or rolls to start the meal. Creme brûlée was the perfect finish to the meal. This was a lovely place to meet our friends on a bitter cold Sunday night in January.
A beautiful and quiet atmosphere. Our appetizers were a lil disappointing. The Lobster bisque was delicious and hot but lacking in lobster majorly. My husband had the escargot which he normally loves. He said it was lacking any flavor. Our entrees were good but could have been hotter. Our server was exceptional. Her attention to detail was top notch.
We normally Love this restaurant but on New Year’s Eve 2017 someone turned off the heat and by 1015 pm everyone was freezing and wearing their coats. We did not stay for desert and left quickly. It was disappointing. The owner was not present and this was also unusual and no one seemed to know how to warm the rooms up.
The hostess and the waitress were very rude. Waited 45 minutes for a table with a reservation. The bar tender would not even look at me to take my oder while we waited for a table.
The food was slow coming out. I asked from the check when the entree was served.
The food was good but not worth the wait.
A drink at the bar with Michael the bartender is always a great spot. Dinner for the 5 if adults with 2 small children went very well. The service was good and the food was great from appetizers through dessert. Looking forward to our next happy hour visit.
Food excellent as always. Service very slow. Took one hour to receive appetizer. Slowest service we ever had. Two and half hours to eat dinner. Need more wait staff. There was only one waitress in our section. She was busting her but to keep up. Restaurant to cheap to hire staff???
We went for a lunch date during our Christmas shopping. The ambiance was warm and comfortable, old farmhouse style. Food was excellent; I loved especially the Schweinepfeffer with spaetzle, which took me back to my Austrian childhood. My wife enjoyed her crab cakes. We had ahi tuna and shrimp tempura appetizers, and a wonderful French onion soup with three cheeses.
The meal started with popovers - highly recommended if you add the lemon curd they are served with. I could have eaten many.
The wine we had was good, an old vine red zin by the glass. All in all a great meal, very refined at reasonable cost.
Duling Kurtz is among our top few favorite restaurants in the area. We usually celebrate special occasions here as we did on this visit. There is no question the food will be excellent. The menu is varied. Service is attentive without being intrusive. It is a splendid restaurant.
Anniversary dinner, high hopes, but our experience left much to be desired. Asked for our order before we put in for our wine. Appetizers came out less than 5 minutes after ordered. I had grilled octopus over salad - salad and plate were ice cold. The octopus was warm & very chewy. No way this was prepared fresh given the time needed to grill octopus. My wife had snails, which came out on a sizzling platter, but the snails were not hot and had no taste. I commented to the waitress that this was served very rushed; she replied the chef likes to clear the kitchen before the rush. Not sure what that meant, but we specifically requested things slow down. Needless to say, the appetizers were horrible. Our bottle of wine followed and we were not asked to taste - the cork was removed and my wife's glass filled, followed by my glass, followed by the waitress walking away saying nothing. The bottle was a different vintage than what was ordered. Less than 10 minutes following the appetizers our entrees were out, and again I commented on the speed but the waitress said nothing. The filet was horribly prepared - unsure if it was cooked and left to sit, or reheated - no juice ran from it when sliced into, and no texture, soft & mushy. The rack of lamb was COLD. At the next table the waitress yelled at a customer followed by taking the menu from one of them because she thought he was turning or spinning it in a way she said wasn't appropriate. By now it felt like either the twilight zone or candid camera. Dessert was ordered following the entrees, which took 20 minutes to come out but before it was served our spoons were tossed in front of us, not placed or anything even close to putting them down next to our plates. Very unprofessional and nothing remotely resembling upscale fine dining. We were extremely disappointed with our choice of restaurant for our anniversary and we will not be making a return trip. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I had heard such wonderful things about this establishment! I was so very disappointed. The service was less than great. Both my boyfriends and my entree came out cold. Most tables around us had complaints and issues as well. It sadly felt like a waste of money, will not be returning.
We have always enjoyed Duing Kurtz with the same negative issue each visit. We like the food, the atmosphere is great and the service is well honed. The reoccurring negative is the hostess. She is a very unfriendly and very blunt. This puts a negative spin on the evening before the guests are even seated.
Although I only live 10 minutes away from DK I haven't been there in years. My girlfriend suggested going there and it was amazing. It was without a doubt one of the best meal experiences I had in years. We went on a Sunday evening, and were seated by the fireplace. Our waitress June was attentive and pleasant. I had the Mushroom Bisque, my girlfriend the escargot, both were delicious. The pace of the meal was perfect and very enjoyable.
I would consider the inside a "Classic Inn" setting, they do need a little touch up work on a few things outside. It was a blustery afternoon, but on a sunny day it would be a beautiful area to walk around.
All in all a great visit and meal and we'll be back soon!
Thanksgiving 2017 was a big hit here at Duling-Kurtz! The food was fabulous, as always, and the wait staff were very friendly and responsive. I've been going to DK for years and love it and would always recommend it. On this occasion, I noticed that the restaurant is looking a little tired and could really use an update or sprucing up. In particular, the stairs and restrooms. The staircase is severely slanted and bathrooms are very worn. Also, it would be great either when making reservations or confirming them (since on open table you don't speak to anyone) DK should inquire as to any issues with steps. We had older guests in our party that struggled with getting up the stairs. At a minimum, before showing you to the table a mention that you will need to ascend a fairly steep and VERY slanted staircase would be helpful and accommodations made if possible.
We celebrated our anniversary at Dueling Kurtz. It had been many years since we had been there. Dinner was very good. We love hearing the beautiful voice of Mindy Rhodes! Only "complaint" was having to wait such a long time for drink order. We were told by our waitress that there was only one bartender on duty ... and he was bar-tending bar area and entire restaurant. Highly suggest a second bartender be hired for weekend evenings.
Impossible to beat the ambience...candles, roaring fireplace, quiet atmosphere...food is excellently varied and eclectic as well as deliciously prepared. Not many fine, quiet, tasty places left in this new restaurant world of hard surfaces, unbearable noise, "over-friendly,' intrusive waiters...this is one of the best.
