Duling Kurtz House Ratings and Reviews
I had heard such wonderful things about this establishment! I was so very disappointed. The service was less than great. Both my boyfriends and my entree came out cold. Most tables around us had complaints and issues as well. It sadly felt like a waste of money, will not be returning.
We have always enjoyed Duing Kurtz with the same negative issue each visit. We like the food, the atmosphere is great and the service is well honed. The reoccurring negative is the hostess. She is a very unfriendly and very blunt. This puts a negative spin on the evening before the guests are even seated.
Although I only live 10 minutes away from DK I haven't been there in years. My girlfriend suggested going there and it was amazing. It was without a doubt one of the best meal experiences I had in years. We went on a Sunday evening, and were seated by the fireplace. Our waitress June was attentive and pleasant. I had the Mushroom Bisque, my girlfriend the escargot, both were delicious. The pace of the meal was perfect and very enjoyable.
I would consider the inside a "Classic Inn" setting, they do need a little touch up work on a few things outside. It was a blustery afternoon, but on a sunny day it would be a beautiful area to walk around.
All in all a great visit and meal and we'll be back soon!
Thanksgiving 2017 was a big hit here at Duling-Kurtz! The food was fabulous, as always, and the wait staff were very friendly and responsive. I've been going to DK for years and love it and would always recommend it. On this occasion, I noticed that the restaurant is looking a little tired and could really use an update or sprucing up. In particular, the stairs and restrooms. The staircase is severely slanted and bathrooms are very worn. Also, it would be great either when making reservations or confirming them (since on open table you don't speak to anyone) DK should inquire as to any issues with steps. We had older guests in our party that struggled with getting up the stairs. At a minimum, before showing you to the table a mention that you will need to ascend a fairly steep and VERY slanted staircase would be helpful and accommodations made if possible.
We celebrated our anniversary at Dueling Kurtz. It had been many years since we had been there. Dinner was very good. We love hearing the beautiful voice of Mindy Rhodes! Only "complaint" was having to wait such a long time for drink order. We were told by our waitress that there was only one bartender on duty ... and he was bar-tending bar area and entire restaurant. Highly suggest a second bartender be hired for weekend evenings.
Impossible to beat the ambience...candles, roaring fireplace, quiet atmosphere...food is excellently varied and eclectic as well as deliciously prepared. Not many fine, quiet, tasty places left in this new restaurant world of hard surfaces, unbearable noise, "over-friendly,' intrusive waiters...this is one of the best.
Family and I went to Duling Kurtz for dinner. We all ordered different meals, and they were all incredible. Not a complaint about anything, only compliments. The prices were on the high side, but definitely worth the extra cost. If you are looking for a memorable meal, this is where you want to go. 5 Stars.
Duling Kurtz House is a one of a kind atmosphere. They have a wonderful cozy bar where it is nice to have a drink and a chat before dinner. I rated the food 4 star based on my own personal preferences. I had the brie puff, which I've had before, this time the brie seemed too sharp. Some might like it that way. I had the rack of lamb, medium rare and it arrived cooked perfectly. Savored every bite. This entree was $42. Again, this might be the going rate, it just seems overpriced for the portion. Regardless, I'll be back.
It has been many years since we have been here but just as we remembered the atmosphere is outstanding only topped by the service and incredibly delicious meal. Ken was very attentive and made our evening so enjoyable. The puff pastries are awesome with the Lemon Curd.
We went to dinner with friends at Duling Kurtz. To begin, the location in an old building is handsome. The waitress, Julia, was excellent: efficient, knowledgeable, pleasant and available when we needed her but not hanging over us. The menu could not have been better with a fine selection of appetizers, entrees and deserts. The wine and drinks list had everything we could have wanted.
Our entire meal was delicious. Three of us had the Weiner Schnitzel and one, the duck breast. All cooked to perfection with accompanying veggies. We shared the creme brûlée at dinners' end.
We would highly recommend this restaurant and will return as soon as we have the opportunity.
Everything was great except for the hostess who actually was quite hostile. I found out during the meal she is the owner and manager. Definitely short handed. She was rude , sat us without menus. Chef is awesome, bartender good but harried ( he was waiting on tables in the bar at the same time)
Our night at Duling Kurtz was excellent though pricey. Because it was a Sunday, we were alone in one of their cozy rooms. We had an excellent server who added to the enjoyment of the evening. This time there were some unusual offerings for the main course one of them being rabbit in a maple glaze. Though we did not order it, the presentation looked wonderful. Happened to catch a glance of it! Plan to return again with friends when they come to visit.
Great dinner. Service was great. Had a drink at the bar beforehand and Michael is always a great bartender. We all had a different entree - seafood special, organic salmon, strip steak and the delicious pheasant. French onion soup, beet salad and special pumpkin seafood soup were all delicious. Great meal for our daughter's 30th birthday. We will be back!
We had eaten there when we lived in PA 6 years ago and thought it was very good. This time not so great. First of all the wallpaper hasn't been updated in many years, I remember that pattern from the 1960's, and the atmosphere isn't the best. I ordered crab cakes and I couldn't have been more disappointed in the quality of the crab meat. We had attended the mushroom festival in Kennett Square and had a Portobello sandwich with a crab cake on top and that crab cake was worth a return trip. Delicious. Our server at Duling Kurtz was very good. No complaints about the service. Sorry about such a negative review but perhaps this will be considered constructive criticism and improvements will be made?
