Duke's Huntington Beach Ratings and Reviews
Food was amazing! First time dining at Dukes. Party of 9 and all of us loved it. Kept talking about it 2 days later. Will be going back for lunch to try there lunch menu. Service was great. Server was helpful and knowledgeable about the food and ingredients.
The fantastic view of the Pacific, you are RIGHT ON the beach, is only one reason we enjoyed Duke's. The food, service, and valet parking combine to a lovely afternoon for us to meet. There is enough noise to feel festive, but we were able to have a conversation at the table.
We usually enjoy Duke's, but this visit was sub-par. My husband's and my fish tasted fishy, and my son said his mahi mahi was only okay. When I was asked if I wanted to take home my uneaten fish, I told the waiter I didn't like it, and they did take the entree off our bill which was appreciated. The service was average also. The restaurant was more than half empty on a Sunday evening.
Overall very nice spot if you don't mind spending a bit of money on average fair. Valet is good because location can be very busy. It is right off the pier which makes for a nice stroll before or after dinner. Lighting in the middle of the restaurant was very dark to the point some people needed to get their phone out to see the menu. This was well after sunset. Food was solid but not spectacular. Calamari appetizer with the crab cake appetizer was good but came with 8 pieces of calamari and 2 crab cakes for roughly $30. Fish entrees run about $30 and steak with lobster is going to be $50-60. Only thing that seemed reasonably priced was the Hula Pie. I would say the service is very good and they make families with children feel very welcome. I would say to come during the day or sunset to take advantage of the view in the restaurant.
Not that impressed. I was really expecting the food to be way better. We had the macadamia crusted fish which came out very soggy. My daughter had some kind of green rice with her fish that tasted like grass. Not even edible. Hostess and/or managers walking around constantly counting tables and it was very distracting. Dinner for five was $250. The value was more like $100. Sorry, can't recommend this place. The only reason we went in the first place was because we received a gift card for Christmas. Won't be going back.
Alays love the menu at Duke's. The preparation of their fish is always so perfect and light. Only complaint is they do not have regular black iced tea, just passion fruit. And, the restrooms need to be refurbished........showing a lot of wear and tear. As a matter of fact, the passion fruit tea tastes a lot like the bathroom smells.......a real turn off.
Lesson: Eat there but don't order the iced tea unless you love passion fruit. Oh, have the Hula Pie!!!
This was the first time that I was very disappointed in the service and food. Took a very long time for the food to arrive. My husbands ribs were COLD and his beer never arrived. Server really didn't check on us adequately and it was very inconsistent. My fish had less than a teaspoon of sauce and when I asked for more, the sauce came cold.
I would have a hard time returning as I now feel like they have gone downhill.
As a side note, it is now $7 to valet and since we met there in 3 cars, it felt like a bit much.
It's always a treat to dine at Dukes. The view is unsurpassed. The food is excellent and the service was spot on. There was a definite feeling of being taken care of and appreciated as a guest at this restaurant. The menu choices are very good. Something for everyone. Portions are perfect. Our dinner was excellent ... don't miss out on this fine dining experience in a casual setting.
