Duke's Malibu Ratings and Reviews
I’ve been coming to this restaurant for my whole life. ...back when it was the Sea Lion. I brought one of my best friends on a beautiful day to celebrate her birthday and we had a lovely lunch with wonderful service and very good food. It was a memorable day for us both..
We have been going for years. Its even better when there is no traffic and there was none getting there or Going home. Nice renovations. The food is always good. I had the ribs. They were pretty dry. I really should have ordered the fish like I always do. Worth the trip with out of town guests or just family and friends.
The view was fabulous - right on the water. We went for the Sunday brunch which was a great deal at $30/person. The food was very good, but I don't know if it was a fair test of what it might be at a regular meal service. It was a bit noisy, and great for families. Very casual -so as long as you know what you are getting, it's worth a stop.
My husband had been to this place before, and that’s how we ended up there on Saturday. We were celebrating our wedding. Boy, were we in for a surprise. The food was absolutely DISGUSTING!!! We spent over $100 with tip included for a meal that was probably worth less than $50 altogether. Yuck, definitely won’t ever be fking back to Duke’s. Apparently this place has changed a lot.....
Service was slow & somewhat indifferent, food was mediocre with small portions. I'm a fan of other restaurants owned by this group, and have enjoyed Jake's in Tahoe. This visit was a bit of a miss, in terms of service & food quality. Perhaps an off day... Incredible & Beautiful location, though
I took my fiancé to Duke’s for New Years Eve dinner. The staff was great. The food was great. Service was top notch. Not to sound too stuffy, but the one thing that bothered me was that, at 8pm on New Years Eve I literally saw men dressed I sweat pants, jeans, hats and t shirts. I don’t blame Duke’s for this fully, but I do think that for dinner there should be some kind of dress code.
I've been going to Duke's for many years. The atmosphere is relaxed, the food is always good and the servers are pleasant. It's a great big restaurant sited beautifully on PCH with amazing ocean views from everyplace except the bathrooms. They have the usual brunch buffet on weekends that you have to order, unless you sit in the bar area. But the bar area is large enough that you can usually find a table, I've seen whales swimming by while sitting at the bar. Also, the bar area is not as overrun with tourists and has a more local vibe. I overhear people grumbling about the $6.00 valet parking but where are they expecting to park on PCH for free? The Valets are the first point of contact at Duke's, they are the friendliest group of valets in Los Angeles. I don't mind the fee, which is about half of what it is at most upscale places around the city.
GOOD but not great. We have been spoiled by tha Duke’s on Waikiki Beach, which is obviously much larger and where the barefoot bar is obvisouly much more “authentic.” The food in Malibu did not WOW us like Hawaii, either.
The service was OUTSTANDING, though! Our waitress was on her game, and she knew her stuff! Her recommendations and pairings were PERFECT. Of course, the Hula Pie is to DIE FOR! We shared two - the original and the Chef’s Special for the week! ABSOLUTE MUSTS! The cocktails were FABULOUS, and her timing with the drinks and the appetizers and main course were RIGHT ON TIME.
Price was not outside what we expected for Malibu and for Duke’s (about $375 for 6 adults with drinks, appetizers, and two desserts). While it is hard to beat the Waikiki Beach Duke’s, this is worth the trip, especially to entertain out-of-towners. If nothing else, go for some Hula Pie! I give this a LET’s GO and HAVE FUN!
This place has gone way downhill in the past year and a half. They used to have the best fish tacos on the face of the Earth, they had an amazing veggie burger. However, many changes were made in the last year. The portions were cut at least by third, they cut drink sizes, they bring out 3 rolls of bread for 4 person table. The food quality has gone way downhill. I'm a local and I used to come here at least once a week most weeks two or three times for taco Tuesday and drinks. Yesterday was last straw, I'm never going back there again. There are many options in Malibu and Dukes has showed me they just don't care.
My cousin and aunt and I met for a Christmas luncheon celebration and to celebrate my Christmas engagement. Our waitress was Sandy and she was just great, very friendly and very accommodating. We weren't rushed and got a window seat I had requested. Overall, it was very lovely.
We had a wonderful time at Duke's! The service staff were all helpful and friendly. They accommodated our every request. The food was amazing. My husband had the Onion Soup and loved it. I had the Calamari and it was delicious. The entrees were all cooked to perfection and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I completely recommend Duke's as a wonderful dining experience.
Great food, Great service! Thank you! We love the food! We also thought our server was wonderful! There is not one thing I would change about our evening at Dukes in Malibu. My wife and I our going to Waikiki in February and look forward to going to Dukes their as well.
This was my third or fourth time to visit DUKE'S. I live in Las Vegas, and when my friend and I go down to the Beach, we have to have a meal at DUKE'S. We usually stay in Hermosa Beach, so it's a bit of a drive, but it's so worth it. The restaurant was renovated since my last visit, but it didn't ruin the atmosphere. It's still a most marvelous place. The staff has always been friendly and very helpful. I love being close enough to the ocean that the waves sometimes hit the windows. DUKE'S is my favorite place to relax and have a meal. The food has never failed to be great. If you're in Malibu for whatever reason, make it a point to stop at DUKE'S. You won't be sorry.
Our service was terrible. Our reservation was right at the opening at 11:30 and so it was not crowded at all. Our waiter disappeared for long period of times and did not come back to check on us. We were not served bread like the other tables around us. We had to ask for it after 15 minutes or so. Drinks took a while to get. He never came back to ask if we needed refills. Our food was dropped off and he did not check in on us to see if we needed anything shortly after the food arrived.
The food was terrible. Two of us ordered fish and chips. It tasted like it was fried in old dirty grease. The fries were soggy. Another ordered chicken strips from the kid's menu. The chicken strips were overcooked and fries also soggy. Another ordered the BBQ chicken salad. I thought the chicken would be tossed in the mango BBQ sauce. Instead, the BBQ sauce was poured on the lettuce. I realized after that I had the option of having the chicken fried or grilled, something the waiter never asked. All around it was an overpriced terrible experience. The only positive was the nice view of the ocean.
