Duke’s is a bit of a tourist trap, but its beachside location in Malibu can make the crowds worth it.
The table was perfect in front of the ocean with great views of the surf, surfers & dolphins passing by. There were nine of us celebrating 2 birthdays, 1 anniversary and 1 college graduate. We were gifted with 3 Hula pies but turned one back as 2 was plenty for the remaining 7 of us as 2 had to leave before dessert arrived. Always a pleasure to dine there, especially since I had just returned from two weeks in Maui 3 days prior to our celebration luncheon with family.
Beautiful restaurant and delicious food with great service
Daughter’s graduation dinner. A favorite spot that has never let us down. Great people - special kudos to our server (unfortunately blanking on his name - but we were seated at a widow table, in the room to the right, at the very far right). When we checked in, they presented my daughter with a handwritten congratulatory card. Dessert was an insane vanilla ice cream pie/cake sitting in chocolate fudge and coated with the same. And whipped cream. Almost forgot - coconut shrimp to start; Halibut for the entree. Everything was delicious! Great evening! Thank you!!
Arrived 12 min late and lost our next to windows reserved table. And it wasn't even weekends day. Was Tuesday.
Seven of us recently had dinner at Duke's for a 50th birthday. The restaurant is beautiful and the ocean view is amazing. Our waiter was a very nice guy. All of us thought our food was just mediocre. Our service was so slow! We had wine and one person had a cocktail. We were on our second bottle of wine before the cocktail arrived. It took a very long time for our meals to arrive and then the dirty dishes sat on the table forever. We had a limo (paying by the hour) so we would have been happy to have gotten out of there sooner but the service was very slow. I would blame it on the kitchen but we also had the issue of the dirty dishes not being removed. We were probably there an hour longer than we needed to be. We had a great time but were all disappointed in the quality of the food and the slow service. Duke's in Maui is amazing, sorry that this one is not up to the same quality. As if often true, restaurants with great views frequently have poor quality food.
Just the view of the Pacific alone is worth coming here but add in great service and great menu and you have a win-win-win scenario. Nothing like eating at the ocean in the company of a great friend like I was with. We do Duke's 4-5 times a year to catch up.
Great service,beautiful views
Pleasantly surprised by how great Duke’s still is. Food was very fresh and creative. Service was good although not outstanding. Really enjoyed it.
Duke's was, as always, amazing. There is nothing like dining right there on the water, watching the ocean activity. The drinks were phenomenal. The fish was cooked perfectly. My only criticism is that there is a very, very limited number of vegetarian/vegan options, so it limited our vegetarian friend's options for dinner. Still, I'd recommend Duke's to almost anyone. Such a fun, casual and tasty restaurant.
Wanted a SUNDAY BRUNCH in the Malibu area with a Ocean View... And I found a gem. Great food, prices and service. VALET only $6 and very friendly. Decent variety and Champagne to top it off ( Only 1 glass ). Had Poke' and ceviche too. Will be going back.
If you want a quite romantic dinner, don’t go to Dukes Malibu! It is noisy and crowded! The food is average and the service is subpar.
I had an outstanding experience with Duke's Malibu. The staff, the service, food, and ocean front views were all worth it. Worth the drive to Malibu.
Beautiful day, sun shining on the water (a view from every table), good food -- light mostly (smaller portions), and friendly staff (just empty tea glass a couple times).
Duke’s did a great job with service and accommodating us on my wife’s birthday. The food has really improved over the last year, too!
Great food, ambience and service!
Awesome- as always
I highly recommend saving space for the Hula Pie for dessert
We were bringing our dear friends to celebrate their 73th anniversary. Duke staff had signed a "Welcome and Congratulations" card and it was awaiting us. So lovely of such a successful, busy place. Our friends were delighted with the extra care and everyone loved their meal, the beautiful Pacific Ocean, wine and even a glimpse of Catalina Island!!
Highly recommended beautiful ocean view... great food!! And the drinks say no more
Really nice place by the ocean. Pelicans flying in the sunset. Amazing. Thanks from Sweden
Always a pleasure to visit Duke's. Do not leave without trying the Hula Pie.
The people that work there are young and very nice. I was very surprised how casual people dress in Malibu. Almost sloppy. The food was ok. Nothing special. The prices are very high but that's Malibu. The view was unbelievable. We were given a window seat like I requested. I wouldn't go back only for the fact it's to far from my house and it's just to crowded and kind of un organized.
When I made the reservation, there was no mention of a Mother's Day buffet only option. I generally don't like all you can eat buffets, as they tend to be picked over, as this was.
The food was average. The bloody Mary was good and the service was excellent.
I would have preferred to have ordered a la carte.
I will not go back for another buffet.
Good food. Disappointed that they didn’t have a window booth available for at least an hour when we got there. I made the reservation over 6 weeks ahead of time. I can understand it’s not Guaranteed but having a reservation that far in advance shouldn’t make me have to wait an hour or more. Prior holidays I only had to wait for maybe 15min or Less.
perhaps it is not really fair to comment when it was Mothers Day and the place was like a zoo. Our server Matt was excellent and never appeared flustered and was immediately responsive despite being pulled by multiple other patrons at more or less the same time. But he kept his cool and was absolutely accurate and never forgot or neglected anyone.
However the buffet seemed to have a problem keeping up with the demand, and I visited the buffet station three times looking for a croissant, and there were none: and the Amaretto whipped cream and coconut cream were empty for a long time. Some of these thing are inevitable when the place is exceptionally busy but the meal did not have quite the same sense of opulence that I am used to. I come here quite a lot when I have out-of-town guests as it is in general a wonderful place to come for brunch.
I think the valet parking situation could be improved. If a patron wants change for a $20 bill, the guy at the desk tells you to ask the driver who delivers your car, but then the driver has to go to the desk and wait till someone hands him the smaller dollar bill values. It would be quicker and simpler if the guys at the desk just gave change and the drivers would still get their tips without any sense of being manipulated.
Wonderful Mother's Day brunch. Lots of seafood selections and macadamia nut pancakes with Coconut Amaretto whipped cream (unbelievably good). Cant beat the view!
Dukes is a classic. Great service, gorgeous views. Good for special occasions.
Great food and service, chef special is different everytime but always delicious.
My son and I really enjoyed ourselves. We were seated at a booth on the water where we watched dolphins at play. The food was great! I had two of the biggest lobster tails I had ever seen. For dessert we had the hula pie which was excellent.I will definitely go back for lunch or dinner.
Great restaurant with ocean view, delicious food, outstanding service.
Very nice workers in every station. Good food. Yummy desserts. Fun place.
You don't come here for the food which is average at best, but the view is unbeatable. Trying once is okay but wish food was better.
I had a good time there for my birthday
I arrived almost an hour ahead of a friend arriving from the airport yet my server graciously allowed me to stay at my ocean view booth to wait for my lunch date. My food was quite good (grilled wild salmon over arugula and farro), Arnold Palmers with free refills and lovely key lime pie. Can’t complain with pelicans flying right by the window and fresh sea air.
Outstanding location (be sure to get a table by the window), very good food and great service. Highly recommend.
Perfect lunch with a friend. Excellent service, food, view.
Second time at this Duke’s. Regular visitor to some of the others. As always the food is AMAZING—beautifully plated and perfectly cooked. Each meal simply explodes in your mouth with unique and distinct flavor combinations that make this place a true gem. Reasonable specials and fair prices for high quality food. And the ambiance is off the charts. They’re all on the water. This time we watched the pelicans, seals, dolphins and even saw a whale come by. Exceptional experience all around.
Duke’s food was fabulous! Appetizers, soups and entrees were excellent! Fun bar drinks and a beautiful view of the ocean. Wonderful place to dine!!!
Grand father in from out of town
