Duke's Malibu Ratings and Reviews
We chose Duke's for Sunday Brunch and the location was wonderful. Right on the water with a very nice atmosphere. I was disappointed that they didn't spell out whether or not the seafood was Farm Raised or Wild Caught and there were no listing of Organic items. The food was tasty and was a good value. The service was very good although we were there for the buffet.
I have not been there in a while, and the food was surprisingly good. Seafood was very fresh and they have some creative dishes. Lobster Mac & Cheese, Seafood Pot and Banana Leaf dish were all very good. It was an over cast day so the view was not so good. So it made you focus on the interior which really felt like an upscale dinner. That being said I will be back on a sunny day?
We took my 88 year old mother for a drive down the PCH, and stopped at Duke's for lunch. They were able to honor our request for a window table, and we all really enjoyed watching the waves crash against the rocks! The food was fabulous, and mom loved her peach belini! Lots of fun, great service, great food.
We went for the Thanksgiving buffet, out second year in a row. The food was very good. However, when we went through the buffet line (4:30), many of the dishes were at or near empty making the overall presentation less than stellar. The server was very nice but seemed overwhelmed and very busy, overall the service was not what we are used to from Duke’s. With that, we will be back as Duke’s is still one of our favorite places to eat.
Went to Dukes for Thanksgiving Dinner witb the family. Our server was very slow to takeour order, bring drinks, etc. The view was pretty, but it was 90 degrees and they had the windows open, no A/C to speak of. With the sun blaring into the windows, it was hot. The food at the buffet was limp and bland. I did not return for seconds. Desserts were yummy though - enjoyed the ice cream cake and some coconut macaroons.
We decided as a family of 6 to go out to dinner for Thanksgiving. It was the first time ever that we didn't cook at home and it was a brilliant decision. Their buffet had something for everyone, and it was delicious. Service was outstanding and ambiance was sensational.
Definitely will return!
Unfortunately, thanksgiving buffet was less than desireable. Some food had been on the buffet too long. The carving stations were manned by un-schooled carvers and so the roast was carved wrong, the turkey carver was not helpful and there was no gravy. When asked if more was coming, no response was provided. The rolls were mia, but the view was gorgeous and it was a perfect day in Malibu. Sad the food and drinks weren’t better to match the perfect day.
Love this place. Was only disappointed in the filet - I should’ve stayed away from it since it wasn’t a USDA Prime cut, as was a different type of meat they offered. Medium rare was requested, yet medium was what it really was. Two of us at the table asked for it to be prepared that way, but since we each got medium I knew it wasn’t a fluke. Not bad enough to send back, and with 4 of us, certainly didn’t want to throw things off by waiting another 20 min or so for a new prep. The filet wasn’t tender or really flavorful. And there was an excessive amount of salt used. I hit a tough gristle spot halfway through and just didn’t finish it.
The coconut shrimp and the calamari to start were insanely good. Alaskan King Crab was wonderful. Absolutely no doubt I’ll return, I’ll just avoid the filet unless they up that game to Prime. Would easily pay a higher, competitive price.
Our server was ever attentive, and the ladies at the front desk were all great.
Second time here in the past week. Took family for lunch, it's a favorite stop. Window view is the best, or outside. Outside is no reservation, 1st come basis. Valet parking is convenient. Hostess station upon entering, always pleasant. Server was great. Food and drinks very good. Crab cakes, crab Wong going, yum! Fish of the day, all very good. Really wanted a speciality coffee, but it's the simple coffee or tea. Not a deal breaker. Average price runs about $50 per person, including a cocktail.
Definitely will return.
Possibly the worst food we have had - the BBQ mango chicken salad had chicken that was hardly cooked, chain places like CPK have far better quality for less than $14. The daily fish - mahi mahi - $17 was a tiny piece without flavor and in a rubbery yellow glaze served with minute rice and a cold macaroni salad worse then a grocery store deli case. Of course the view is the only redeeming aspect - go for a drink but skip the food.
My family was visiting out of town (I live in Santa Barbara), and I made a reservation for lunch on a Sunday because they had heard about Dukes in Malibu and were excited to go. When we arrived, we were seated on the waterfront, which is amazing! But after we settled in, the server informed us we could only eat the buffet....no one informed me of this when I made the reservation, and it doesn't say that on the menu for Sunday lunch (in fact they have a good looking lunch menu online and it's partly why I chose the place). A couple of my family members hate buffets (they don't like people hovering over their food), so we were forced (staff were pretty cold to us) to sit in the crowded, noisy, bar with no view. Food was o.k. (but what can you expect from bar food?). In short, my family was totally disappointed that Dukes didn't live up to their hype (their from the mid-west). I'm not blaming anyone, it was a simple error on both our parts, but Dukes staff could have been much more friendly and understanding. They could have at least allowed our large party to remain in the dining area (it was 2:00 in the afternoon, the dining room had tons of open tables), or comped our parking (we payed 20 bucks just to park our vehicles).
Valet parking $6 plus tip. Reservation was accommodated on time. Service was very good. Server gave us the time we wanted without being rushed.
Crab cakes appetizer, 2 small plate, but it was my main lunch entree. Fried calimari is done in long strips instead of circles, very good, more meaty this way. I have had this a few times. About 5 strips. Fish of the day was great too. Good cocktails. And ofcourse, dining with a view, so lovely.
This is a very reasonably priced restaurant considering the quality of food and the location. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The food portions were just right and prepared exactly as specified. The ocean setting makes this a very relaxing place for just about any occasion. Will definitely come here again.
Can I please shout out to the best server Tina? She was warm, friendly, engaging and helped us (a large party) through our complicated selections!! Happy to hear she is also originally from NJ and she is going there next week. She was super helpful and I will gladly recommend Duke's again.
Food was fresh and tasty, the vibe was fun and our large party really enjoyed ourselves.
